Thank you for this video I’ve been struggling in some small corners on an intake manifold I’ve been attempting to polish, will give this a shot tomorrow hopefully it knocks the little stuff outta there and I can get polishing away
Wonder if the people who said it didn’t work got the green can. CRC sells gasket remover in either a green can or red can. The green can “contains no methylene chloride”. both the red can and aircraft remover are methylene chloride based which works well.
Was looking for a way to strip coat off a set of black and milled wheels (only color available for the spec I wanted) so I could polish them, thanks for the info brotha
omg I was having the same issue. Found some OEM polished Silver M parallel and they were powder coated black :( tried air craft strip and it worked but it dried out two fast and it i could only do small sections.
They changed the ingredients on the CRC gasket remover and it no longer contains methyl chloride. I tried to strip powder coating and it just sat there didn't do a damn thing.
Good tip, I'll do a side by side comparison but if it helps anyone here, I've been using Kleen Strip Paint Stripper followed by Kleen Strip After Wash for years (something I get at Lowes) and that shit works great! No work at all, just brush it on and wipe off in a few minutes which is all it takes. I never set an actual time but I do this so often I buy these by the gallon and fill up a bowl and just sit my items in the liquid and just leave it there for as long as I want (sometimes over night if I need it super clean like if I'm going from powder coated surfaces to prepping to gold plate. A final wipe down if you want to make sure 100% is gone can be done with acetone or denatured alcohol at 200%. This is what I've been doing for the last 13 years so hope it helps.
Seeing a lot of people commented a year ago that it was not working. I just bought two cans today, Aug 16, 2022 and its working pretty good. Did you use acetone to wipe it off or just a moist paper towel?
@@MrRICKDAWG4444 it does work though with lots of this chemical + metal scraper + patience. My powder coat was applied in rim shop, so the stuff they use is pretty tough. i think sand blasting wouldnt work either. blowtorch is bad on aluminum. i cant think of a better solution & most effective chemicals are banned anyways thanks for your video i found it very helpful
@@MrRICKDAWG4444 that's what I thought too. But it was the last one the auto part store had and told me they won't be getting them anymore because of aqmd
I have a pelican thermos, but they don't have many color options, have been questioning if I should or shouldn't, because the top and bottom parts are plastic so I am unsure if I should or shouldn't.
Powder coat will be out of the question since the plastic will melt during the baking process and possibly during the striping process as well. Your options would be epoxy or paint over the existing colors as far as I know.
I have an outdoor table which has powder coated legs and across sides. A lot of peeling which I taped up with matching silver gloss tape. Decided to remove the tape and scrape back the powder coating. Some came off easily but there are other areas that won't budge. Will the gasket remover work on these areas.
For sure especially since it's already peeling it will get under it much faster. If possible after you spray it wrap it with plastic or something so it stays wet longer. Let me know how it goes
Hey Linda, I am working on some outside tables with powder coating as well and sanding the powder coat is taking soooo long. Did you try this? I think its worth a shot! If you did, let me know how it worked. Thx!
I'm going to go get myself a can I have a bunch of motorcycle parts that I need to strip I really hope this works. The striper is the only thing I'm missing 😕
I used hot soapy water and scrubbed it really good and re prepted it for powdercoat. I've basically had most garage chemicals at one point in my eye by accident so I wasn't to concerned about residual residue that didn't affect the next finish I was applying. I'm sure there is a much better way to remove trace elements of the chemicals but I'll leave that up to you to research.
Wrap it in Curran wrap let it sit the plastic wrap keeps its from drying out let’s the strip do it’s thing I powdercoat for a living I know a thing or two lol or you can buy the real stuff that we use benco b17 tag all have it stripped in 2 mins 😂 let me know if this helped (use the spray can one)
great Video but FINALLY SOMEONE WHO KNOWS HOW TO MATCH RIM AND TIRE SIZE TO A TRUCK!!!!!! Look AWESOME!
Right! Thank you
I hope you're being sarcastic

Give it a shot. Someone commented they don't use the same formula anymore and it doesn't work like it used to so keep me posted on your results please
heat the cup and then hot flock it " spray it hot"
That's works too

Super chrome base electric green over and a heavy diamond flake clear ? On the special color?

Well damn that sucks. Good to know though thanks for the feedback much appreciated
wish I known that before I started trying to strip stuff. This stuff is junk now
I just got two cans today at O’Rileys…works the same as it did in your video
Nice. You might have gotten some old stock
Did you notice if it seemed to eat into the metal at all? Cause any distortion?

Seeing a lot of people commented a year ago that it was not working. I just bought two cans today, Aug 16, 2022 and its working pretty good. Did you use acetone to wipe it off or just a moist paper towel?
Yes I used acetone since it was still pretty sticky after the gasket striper did its thing
I have cleae coat over my powder coat will it still work?
seems to work decently for powdercoat however it doesnt remove the primer underneath very efficiently
no sand blasting shop wants to do this work too
I was unaware they used any sort of primer when powdercoating so I'm not sure what would work for that.

@@Itsudemo1 right on my dude glad I could help
I just bought 2 cans, didn't work at all. I read they changed, I guess so. Didn't take the coating off any of my tumblers
Yea they changed the chemicals around in the new cans and it no longer works for this anymore
So I tried this on my front powder coated bumper. It didn’t do anything to it. Are there different types of powder coating?
I also tried on a coated jeep fenders that are already peeling and it did nothing
I tried it on a small part I have and it didn't even touch it.
I am in California as well.
I've been told they changed the the product
@@MrRICKDAWG4444 that's what I thought too.

It works even better if you spray it down & stick it in something that the fumes can’t escape

I'm looking to strip the powder coating off of a larger piece of gym equipment. Do you think this is a good option for that?
From what I've been told the company has changed the formula of this product and it no longer works for striping powder.

No problem

Yea the metal type shouldn't make a difference since your only striping the powder coat.

Hmm. Tried using same gasket remover on a powdercoated bike frame. Did not work !
This company has changed the formula around and it no longer works to remove powder coat.

Ordered it online

Thanks for the heads up
No problem
Can you use that on chrome
No
Did you have any trouble re-powder coating the tumbler? Thanks
No.. I cleaned it and sprayed it came out perfect
How can I tell the difference between anodized and powder coated?
Anodizing is super thin and easy to remove with oven cleaner. Powedercoat is alot thicker.
How do you go about getting the chemicals off so it is safe to put your lips?
I used hot soapy water and scrubbed it really good and re prepted it for powdercoat. Methylene chloride is the active ingredient in gasket remover. Same as in any good liquid chemical strippers.
Sure is. That's what I see used in more expensive powdercoat strippers as well.
anyone know if this would be safe to do on wheels
I don't see why not
looks like new men !!!! woooww !!! Thanks
You're welcome
Get you some Benco B 17
What is that
Thanks guys
You would be better off using black Butyl rubber gloves when working with chemicals like Acetone.
Glowing yellow from prismatic powders
Shocker yellow
An easier with oven cleaner
I've tried that in the past with no results. However oven cleaner works amazing at removing anodizing.
@@MrRICKDAWG4444 try applying some heat for few minutes i use hot water from the kettle
You are brave to be stripping something you’ll be consuming beverage from with those chemicals 🤣!
Ive been waiting hour still no results same red can
That's strange. Worked great for me, are you sure what you're striping is powder coat?
Wow Amazing!
It was pretty satisfying to watch how fast it worked.

citrus strip from Home Depot thank me later!
Thanks for the tip I'll give it a try next time i strip something.

I tried a small part in a bag for like 20min and it didn't even touch it. It was the spray can one also. How long should you let it sit?
Use your boyfriend's toothbrush to remove the stubborn areas.
I used your mommy’s toothbrush and it gave my tumbler monkey pox.
