Every time I hear "Lovergirl", "Oh-La-La", "Out On A Limb", "Fire & Desire" and "Square Biz", I get extremely emotional. Turn the volume to anything other than up when I'm playing Teena Marie will get you punched in your face!
I am white and have loved Teena Marie since I was 12 (1979). Portuguese Love (since I am Portuguese) and Young Love are my favorites! RIP Lady T! She was amazing!
She was my absolute favorite female artist of all time! Most definitely ahead of her time and seriously underrated. You hear of artists passing every now and again, and you're like "oh no, that's terrible!" Then go on about you're day and life. In over 35 years I had never shed tears over a singer's death, especially one whom I had never met, until I got the news about Teena's. I literally froze. Like many others she has touch the lives of, she truly touched my soul with her music and beautiful voice. I'm glad I found this documentary, as it's a reminder of how truly amazingly talented she really was, and that she continues to live on through her music. SIP Lady T. You are and will continue to be sorely missed! ❤
@DeeGenesis~You took the words right out of my mouth.......I could not have written it any better. When I learned of Teena Marie’s untimely death, I was absolutely devastated and truthfully~speaking, I still cry to this day😢😞 Her unexpected death, like Aaliyah, Vesta, Whitney, Michael, Prince, and Rick James, to name just a few, affected me deeply~The music business, to me, just has not been the same without them💔😢💔
That is so amazing to me.Not just because of her talent, but the genuineness she presents .Now, if anyone did the same thing she did the scream of " cultural appropriation " is thrown around so much now. I often wonder what she would tell these loudmouths now.
I’m a 52 year old female from a small town outside of Atlanta Ga. I will forever remember hearing Lady T. I was absolutely mesmerized. I have loved this woman since day 1. Her voice was soulful, magical, transcendent, and timeless. She truly was a gift. To this day I still play my music and she’s untouched. There will never be another who can replace her. ❤️
I'm a 62 year old white Englishman who has always loved Teena, from the start of her career to the end of my existence. I will see her in concert again soon.
This lady was phenomenal, sweet, modest, energetic and motherly. What a distinctive voice that sends fire into your soul. I cried watching this and I am 73. I have some of her work. Rip lady t. Thanks utube.
Teena Marie is still one of my favourite artistes of all time. I didn't know she had a concert in UK a year before she passed, but was so excited to have tickets to the show on her return the following year in January. But couldn't believe the news on Boxing Day when I heard the sad news of her passing. Missed her by less than 30 days. She was so talented. So sad. Still feel it now. I have the memory of the one time I saw her in 90's I think. Hammersmith Odeon, London I think. She sat over the stage edge and was off on a tangent, starting singing stuff. She had to stop herself and get back on the programme. But she could do anything. My favourite track, Porteguese Love. Memories evoked of yesteryear.
@@melvinbullock342 I Like her daughter's work, but she doesn't need the burden of carrying her legacy. I've seen it happen too often with children of famous singers.
Why is it that all the great artists die Young? she was a star amongst all stars and I loved her and grew up with her music and still love her! RIP sweet girl ur missed!
I can feel the sadness that of Alia as I sit here watching this documentary. Her birthday (December 25th) will always coincide with the the date of her mother's death (December 26th). 😢
I had Passion Play, and it was an OUTSTANDING album. I wish it had gotten the exposure that both it and she deserved. She was FORMIDABLY talented. I've been a fan since Wild & Peaceful, and always will be. EDIT: I bought Passion Play again this week on eBay. SO GOOD!! I was fortunate to see her in concert at the House of Blues in Downtown Disney. OH MAN, she performed the HELL outta that night!!! True, she gave everything, and I mean everything on stage. I miss her so.
I was just a toddler when Teena Marie was at the height of her career. But I remember hearing her music by way of my parents and the radio. Out of all her songs, my absolute favorite is Out A Limb. The arrangement and instrumentation is so mystical and nostalgic, coupled with her voice. It gives me chills every single time I listen to it; have me hollering because she SUNG THE HEC OUT THAT SONG! And there is NO OTHER that can duplicate it.
Teena always stayed true to herself. Miss her. RIH Lady T. I still get goosebumps when I hear the first note of Fire and Desire, Square Biz, or Lovergirl. Truly a legend.
Teena Marie was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING !!! Every time I hear her sing, watch her perform, or listen to her speak, I get goosebumps. There has been noone before her nor after her so true to herself and her game. Her daughter has to be the luckiest girl alive to be blessed with her as her mother.
