It's interesting when Ubisoft actually let a dev have enough time and creative control, they're actually able to make a good game
The thing is, Ubisoft can actually make great games. They just have bad decisions
They are Canadian.
Ubisoft has tons and tons of creative developer. It just the higher ups are utter moronic with their bussiness decision.
"I like the game but it's getting hated by our consumers? Double it down! Shove it on their throat! I enjoy it so they must enjoy it to!"
-some stupid higher ups on ubisoft
I honestly believe the Prince of Persia series is underrated. A lot of the ideas and mechanics from Assassins Creed and Uncharted series got it from older Prince of Persia games.
Assassin's Creed 1 started off as a new Prince of Persia game before they decided to make it its own IP
Right Assains Creed ripped them off
I do not think it is underrated. I think that AC was a breath of fresh air that substituted it for quite a while since there is plenty of opportunities than just something set in Persia. I think it had a great run, but we can see from this game they are trying to go in a good direction. It still won't be as famous as AC in my opinion.
Ubisoft.... publishing a well polished good game?
Shocking times
Rayman Origins/Legends from a decade ago says hi.
They released 3 well polished Games recently. This one, Mirage and Avatar! I played Mirage and Avatar and it was really good can't Wait to try this one
@@TwstDDrKMnD2 out of 3 of those are just the same copy paste formula they have been making for over a decade
@@nicorobin7762 It doesn't bothers me really, there was enough subtils changes that I could enjoy them regardless. And I gotta say the world of Avatar was one of the best i've experienced period! So magical and magnificent 👌
Ubisoft’s smaller titles are usually good. South Park, Mario Rabbids, Rayman Legends/Origins, Prince of Persia, etc
That always seems to be the pattern. The majority of games that have demos available are the ones that review very well. I feel like demos should become a mandatory thing for games. It will force these companies to develop the game at least well enough to present to the masses rather than the typical 'release now fix later' model.
Sony and Microsoft don't do enough to force/promote devs and publishers to make pro gamer decisions. It's THEIR platform and store, if they wanted to they could have a demo be mandatory. They could be strict in making sure games have a baseline level of polish. Mandatory quality/performance modes as well as an uncapped framerate mode for when the next console comes out, so that games will automatically get resolution/framerate boosts via backwards compatibility. T
Hell, they could even have a rule that devs who've made a game within the last 8 years must go back and patch their previous games that are in need of higher resolution/better framerate. This would help bring consoles up to speed with the PC and its vastly superior backwards compatibility.
There's so much more they should be doing to bolster console gaming. None of these things are unreasonable either, nor do they require "that" much work. They don't do this because they don't want to "restrict" companies. They cater more to publishers than gamers. Steam on PC is doing much more for their customers than the console makers and that's damn shame but we've been trained to sort of accept the bare minimum. Just look at how awful the return policies are (esp Sony)! If you so much as download a game you cant get a refund even if the game is broken and sold on lies.
I don't see how this game being good is a surprise when it's made by the Rayman Legends devs.
Glad to see more Metroidvania games
Metroid dread really surprised me and I think this one will too
Metroid is not a Metroid-vania. It's Metroid.
I like it. But…. I don’t like the linear 2d decision.
The freedom we had in the magnificent 3d original was truly amazing. I still find that 15+ year old game superior. I don’t like being restricted going left to right for this type of adventure. Fun. Good combat graphics, sound etc….But I wanted to open up that beautiful world I saw behind our beloved character.
This video is so enjoyable, I think you should do more reviews like this one!
Thanks for the preview. I need to check out the demo! I'm a Prince of Persia fan since the DOS days where I used to "speed run" it. I loved that game and most of its successors (well, not PoP 3D) and the AC games it spawned.
As a solo developer making an action platformer I am really interested in all the decisions development teams make when it comes to, mapping abilities to certain buttons, parallax backgrounds, partical effects sound design, UI. UNDOUBTEDLY GOTTA HAVE SOME SORT OF MAP OPTION
I can't wait for this one. It looks really, really good and I'm glad it is getting positive buzz.
There’s a lot of things I love about this game but one of them that really stood out was the intricate platforming sections that take practice to get through.
I have been excited about this since it was first announced so I'm glad it turned out good.
Great review, Jon! Cant wait to pick this up next week.
The screenshot features should now be included in all future Metroidvania games! Best features in a long time! No need to use the Switch screenshot button anymore hehe
I'm so excited for this game! Metroidvania are my best style of games! Cannot wait for next week!
Pleased the game received some decent reviews and hopefully, this will fuel my Metriodvania needs until we get a Silksong update.
This looked cool when first shown. I’m glad you weren’t disappointed
Lookin forward to it. Dark Light is another 2D action platformer that releases January 30th on PlayStation; it looks real good as well.
Great Video Jon(SW).
Yh since Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown was first Announced and it was a 2D Action Platformer, I was hooked and with every Trailer, it just looked better n better plus really good n fun.
I am glad it is a really Good Game and I am looking forward too checking out the Demo before the Full Release.
Looks good, from early reviews to now. I can't wait for next year when it comes out on Steam!
I’m excited for this! Love the heavy Metroid Dread vibes! Will definitely be trying the demo out on PC and Switch!
It looks really good and fun! 👍 Can't wait to try this on for myself. Personnally one of my most anticipated game this year! Looks like they nailed it with the high metacritic scores
The demo was enough for me to check it out! Excited to jump in!
I really enjoyed the demo and didn’t expect to play so much of the game I was wondering if Ubisoft screwed up and gave us the full game. It plays really well on the switch too. I’m looking forward to play the full game next week.
John doing a superlative job here - Nice voice over review
It looks incredible! Nice job.
You're moving up! Getting a review copy of a game
The Prince of Cringa.
The switch version of Prince of Persia and the lost Crown is the lead platform, and it shows and hats off to Ubisoft. They are one of a few developers outside of Nintendo that can get the best out of the switch hardware..
Wow you're doing an actual game video , well done
I'm super glad a demo is available so I can try before I buy :)
Playing this game on immortal difficulty is so rewarding since you die in one or two hits I highly recommend it
Glad that it s getting good reviews. People tried to cancel this game because of the main character. It got so much push back when it was announced.
I will try to unbury myself outta my backlog for this.
Looking to the suggested videos sidebar, looks like Dreamcast Guy liked it.
I ran into very specific glitches playing, for example there are these cylinder with spikes on top and bottom, I could sometimes land on top of spike cylinder edge and stand on it no issues
I am so excited for this one
The demo was great. Looking forward to the physical release being heavily price reduced a couple weeks after launch.
My copy comes today. i can't wait. i loved the original games, so I am looking forward to playing this one
I knew when it was first revealed that I wanted it! Only one more week to go!
I didn't even know this game was 2D. It actually looks super fun and I'm looking forward to it.
3D on a 2D plain
@@mikeuk666 thats called 2.5D
If you think about it Warrior Within was MetroidVania in many ways.. I’d love to see a remake of that one even tho it was challenging and had a lot of frustrating elements..
This seems like a great step back for the series granted it feels more like a side story as you’re not playing as the Prince himself.. I made sure to preorder even though I knew I’d be somewhat broke after the holidays! I used to dedicate Fridays to playing PoP so maybe I need to go back to doing this & take a little break from FF
Looks fun! Played the og 2D game on Gbc as a kid so I should enjoy this.
I’m addicted to this game
I didn't know "Killmonger" was Persian😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I can’t I see it now, thx smh.
Maybe Black Panther is unlockable ;)
I look forward to playing it when it eventually comes to Steam… at least it will be getting better discounts by then!
Excited for this game! Picking it up on switch since 2D side scrolling games just make sense on a handheld!
Great review
Awesome, might get it on the Switch if it’s physical release
I was waiting for your review and will watch it after work…..can’t wait to play it. Looks so good.
Just looked at the trophy list, it seems relatively easy in mostly requiring 100% with no difficulty related trophies.
Not that this would be my primary reason for playing/ not playing the game but it does seem to be one to pick up for an easyish Platinum.
Played the demo on the Xbox One X and looked and played really good ....I think I'll be picking this one up, glad it made it to all platforms where no one will miss out and it seems very much optimized with more pates to come I'm sure.
That's perfect like 20 hours this is what I like to see with this type of game.
Looks like an ultra rare Ubisoft W
I was playing the demo on Epic and the camea wasnt right? 4:40 kept jolting meaning it was it was panning left or right depending on what direction i was heading?
Where would you rank it compared to Metroid dread. Both overall and in terms of difficulty?
That's awesome that it's a good game I'm gonna need to pick it up as my first and only POP game was Two Thrones which I played as a kid and loved it sm. Bought it on Steam to realize the game glitches on a segment after a stallion battle where you have to lower down a chain and that's where it glitches and brakes the progress of the game. So I'm gonna replay two thrones on my ps2 emu.
Looks good. Now it just needs to come to Steam!
I found out you could upgrade the amulets ather I beaten the game. Don't know why I newer noticed that.
I'm downloading the demo immediately. Game reviewing is a good look on you.
Ah yeah !! I’m excited.
"Brothers, a tale of two sons" is also getting a well deserved remake.
Does it need a remake? I also think visually it could look a bit better to justify a remake with 2024 visual standards
My question is why is it a surprise?
😂this is the question I came to ask. Nothing about it looked bad during the reveal.
Because the last Persia game went back into development hell
Ubisoft .lol
it’s ubisoft
Because it's good
I'm definitely picking this up ASAP
Dunno if you realize but you can use the right stick to expand your field of view
I need the Metroid Dread comparison, it has to happen
Real ones already knew this would be fire. No surprise
Looks like they took inspiration from the POP mobile games back in the day.
What a Nice and bright platformer. Looking forward to this one.
For those of us that have been paying attention, we knew the game was probably going to be great. the developers of Rayman Legends don’t mess around.
Release date is the 15th can’t wait!!
For me, the surprise wasn't that the game is good. The surprises were how big the map is, how well done the platforming is, how fair and difficult, at the same time, it feels, and how great the combat system is.
You can make amazing long combos againts small enemies (not at the level of DMC5, of course), and have stylish epic fights againts bosses. Some of them were among the most epic boss fights I've ever seen in a videogame. The platforming is well done, and fun, because it wants the player to do everything almost perfectly at times. Puzzles are great. Even tho the story and lore barely works, I want more of this. There are many games of this genre, but there isn't one doing everything The Lost Crown does. It's a really nice mix, which makes it quite unique. A lot of people compare it to Hollow Knight, but I think it has a lot more in common with Strider.
I also beat the game yesterday literally! and I dare say it's up there with Metroid, Ori and others.
Does the easy mode help with difficult platforming? My 6 year old loves platforming but struggles with coordination on difficult combos
Metroidvanias are my favorite type of games and I'm real excited for this game, looks sicl
Still have trouble holding down the jump button to go to the next levels sometimes. Still a great game😊
Currently playing this game on immortal mode. Man am i getting spanked! But i love every second of it!
I love this game. It is awesome old school. Love it relaxing and very well made
This looks fun. I want it!
Pre-ordered fit my Series X it looks amazingly slick 🫶
I've been waiting for this game
Downloading the demo right now
Really is a suprise. Haven't been this happy to play a 2d game since hollow knight. Demo WAS great
I'm shocked to hear you didn't really like the story. While it isn't something ground-breaking it was the story that kept me going in the game aside all the other good points you mentioned. This game is a fantastic metroidvania and game. Everyone should at least give it a go! Totally recommend.
This definitely next game I'm gettin
8:09 this is actually not a new idea. In Bloodstained there was the same ability to get through smaller spaces, bouncing of mirrors.
Wooh!
I’m debating between the Switch version or the console version
His character design looks so modern and silly. Why does he have that haircut. He also doesn't look like he would be from Iran.
💯
This game looks really good
Going to grab the Switch physical
This will be perfect to feed the portable itch on switch
Sold, about time these guys make a good game!
I’m excited to get this game
You convinced me Jon. I’m going to buy Prince of Persia on my PS5.
I'm about 4 hours in. I think it is incredible. Loving it.
That "member of the royal family" that you're supposed to rescue is actually the prince from all the previous games. You should have pointed that out since it's not just some prince from any royal family...
Sounds like this game can be finished in under a week so I may just get it on Ubisoft plus for $15
Ill try it once its "free" somewhere but ubisoft needs to put out a few bangers before i start giving them $..
The Prince of goodness
hi Spawn Wave
How does Prince of Persia The Lost Crown's difficulty compare to Metroid Dread's difficulty on normal?
Wow I didn't know Persians had deadlocks...
Amazing
