The Retro Future Gameboy bags, made 100% out of whatever the hell Elliot has lying around lol
Legit good idea, actually. Fund the channel and reuse old fabric. Start an Etsy shop, Elliot.
I'll buy that. A little piece of passion to help jumpstart his house renovations.
Great idea !
i would cop
I'd buy one
Finally. A GameBoy video that me and my mom can enjoy
Can you imagine fighting with your mom about who gets to use the gameboy?
The fact that you were holding the thread in your hand and threaded the machine incorrectly yet still managed to successfully sew something is testament to both the sewing machine and yourself
Which part of the threading was incorrect?
@@ciennarose007 I think sewing machines typically have a mount on top for the the thread to sit on while it is fed onto the spool, no reason to hold it in your hand to feed it onto the spool.
@@goatbone yeah that makes sense, but I don't think that that's what Cindy was referring to? They mention both "holding the thread" and "threaded the machine incorrectly" separately. I was just curious cause it all looked find to me XD
@@ciennarose007 there’s a little hook at the top of the needle where the thread should slip behind so it feeds down in a straight line to the eye of the needle instead of coming into it at an angle. My machine wouldn’t sew correctly without that step!
@@CindyCB78 Interesting! I'm going to check it out on my machine. I don't remember having to do that, but it seems to sew correctly anyway haha
Idk if anyone has made this joke yet, but they should’ve call it the “Nintendo Stitch®️”
This is the only accessory the Switch doesn't have yet, someone should make one!
**click**
@@Clara_Page that would actually be sick. With the switch’s big screen and all
are you freaking kidding me that's super clever
@@Svender06 thx ☺️
It’s ridiculous how the first major handheld console has the most gaming accessories than any of its other successors.
This is the kinda thing you can do when everyone in your country owns your machine. They had such a huge userbase most of these things would find at least some market.
Can't wait for part 2! Really curious!
They really were ahead of their time.
What else did they make ??
They also made a sonar fish finder that worked up to 20 ft
There also existed a motorcycle diagnostic/programmer for peugeot. Used a cartridge with a diagnostic connector on it.
ruclips.net/video/EEzJH90h3aA/видео.html here's a AVGN episode about the GB Accessories
Can't believe you haven't re shelled the gameboy in transparent red to match!
I proclaim Elliot to be the most OG true Nintendo fan and I love it, he can make a video of a Sewing machine look good and entertaining
Demographics make that incredibly unlikely, but Mr. TRF rules, there's no disputing that.
How nice it would be to do cosplay and when you get the chance, to be able to say: "you know... I sewed all my link costume using a game boy"
That would be a pro gamer move in and on itself. Like, seriously.
I had the same exact thought
I want one of these just to do this chad move
I think you're winding the bobbin incorrectly. Typically, there's a thread path on the top to control tension when winding, and it helps the thread wind evenly
Well, she does it well, my grandmother had a sewing machine of those big and she put the threads in an extended way, then when she sewed the same thread it was tensioned when the fabric passed, I always adjusted the pants, which sometimes were long and I always stayed with her until she finished, she is already 80 years old, okay I miss her, I hope to see her go away, she was always my mother I love her very much, now there is no one to make my pants, I'm not crying I'm just lubricating my eyes.
Oh boy the production quality and cinematography here was great. I’ve seen inklings of this kind of stuff in some parts of your older videos, you really need to do that more it looks really neat
This is so cool. I love thinking about a time when the most convenient/economical computational device people had available to them was a GameBoy. I was alive, but only really aware of this when the GBC came out with Pokemon.
Love your channel(s) ❤
It's funny to remember that once upon a time Blu-Ray players were so expensive my parents opted to buy us a Playstation cause that was the cheaper alternative.
It blew my mind when I realized that this machine actually had a practical reason to exist and wasn’t just a funny gimmick. Super cool!
I sew everyday; this is one of the coolest things I've ever seen, and I'm SO sad that it's so rare. I would buy one in a heartbeat. I've never heard of this, and it blew my mind. Thanks for making this video!!
Sewing is not my thing either, but I find sewing machines fascinating! How they can perform such precise movements and how they can be programmed with just a plastic wheel (in the more basic models).
Can't wait to see part two!
PS: That was quite a cliffhanger! 😂
PPS: RIP camera lens
Back in the (early) 70's, the more advanced model of sewing machine from elna had a set of plastic CAM's that would allow you to make a lot of advanced patterns..
The fun part of this is that my mum bought an elna with all these CAM's, and it was evidently the super expensive... And I happen to have stumbled across a basic model of the same series in a thrift store
@@mxbunnycatter It's just called a cam. All lowercase. It's not an acronym. That's it's actual name.
I appreciate you giving this odd sewing machine the old college try.
"sewing machines are cool, pass it on". so true. just got one about a month ago to stitch all my surplus gear and i've found myself using it way more than I thought I ever would. But, you've just given me an idea for my handhelds. thank you, sir.
You are actually rather good at that for a beginner. I've seen my mum swearing like a trooper at her sewing machine as it chews up a project when she was starting out.
Hi Elliot. I've been in and out of the emergency/hospital last few days struggling with my health. Your videos have helped me get by, especially in the sleepless nights in pain. I love the vibe, your videos keep me relaxed and distracted with how interesting they are!
Cheers!
I was like 'Okay, this is kind of neat." And then you dropped the bombshell at the end! What?!
You've always had interesting shots but the cinematography and editing on this one are a cut above. Legit makes the sewing sections look like a lot of fun.
I'd suggest, or even recommend, that the spool of thread is placed on the spool pin and follow the thread guides when you're going to wind the bobbin. Perhaps you can find a user manual for this specific sewing machine.
Singer also made one which is called the Singer IZEK sewing machine.
I love the new retro style into! It's really fits a chanel called "The Retro Future"...
But try make the transition bit more smooth, will make this so much cooler, like we are actually going from the retro to the future!
Make sure you walk the stitch backwards at the end as well, not just the start. Same concept, just keeps it from pulling out.
Yes, the backstitch (also known as the stitch protector) goes on both ends of the stitch line. To reinforce the stitches at each end of the line.
Love your nonsensical humour and that you always own your mistakes. Really makes your content unique and keeps me coming back.
Five years from now, this will be RUclips's number 1 embroidery channel
Patreon Only merchandise B)
While working for a contractor for NoA, we were granted access to Nintendo's massive (I don't know if that's an adequate enough word to describe its size) knowledge base. I remember finding this little gem filed with the Game Boy Color articles. Nice to see one in action in the modern day!
I learnt more about sewing from you in 10 minutes than I have from every tutorial vid I've seen and attempted. Makes me wanna make a pouch for my switch now
Mechanically, it seems identical to a regular Singer sewing machine.
I'm an amateur seamstress who has been sewing since age five. You did great for a beginner!
Definitely looks like my Singer Futura CE200 with some red plastic bits and the controls swapped out.
as a nerd and a sewist, I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!! I'm a staunch believer that mechanical sewing machines are better, they're built a lot sturdier than newer electronic machines, but electronic sewing machines are really necessary for any decorative stitches or embroidery. making a sewing machine with a board and software that's easy for the owner themselves to source and swap out and repair is just so excellent. thank you for getting this old machine sewing again and especially thank you for introducing more video game enthusiasts to sewing, it's a great skill to have!
Dude that was fucking dope. I've never been so hyped for a sewing video. Such good editing in this one too. Loved the wipe transition at the start, very cool
This video made me so happy. I watch your channel with my 11 year old. I'm an avid sewer and he loves retro gaming systems. This was a perfect mashup for us. I hope you inspired more young people to take up sewing. It's a dying art! PS... You should really wind the thread onto the bobbin from your thread spool while it's on the machine and running through some of the tension points in order to make sure it winds evenly onto the bobbin. You will get better results that way!
I have never used a sewing machine, yet own a stupidly expensive prosumer one, crap can't remember who made it...Janomie one, had to look it up through my orders. I bought the singer one but from reviews found it was far inferior and not made of metal anymore, meaning cheap.Edit: This weirdly helped me get the courage to pull out that sewing machine and try it out. This looks easy, the whole threading thing not so much. BUT the sewing bit looks easy. Also didn't know you were 10 years my junior, god I feel old. I also like how weirdly timeless and anachronistic the design of this machine and the embroidery arm is.
You don’t need to hold the thread in your hand to wind the bobbin. Just put it in the normal sewing position then run the thread forward and around the the tension plates next to the big hook you normally use for sewing. Take it back and around the red guide and hook it into the spool. I usually just hold the end and slowly turn the handwheel, to wind a few turns on to hold the thread.
Sewing is seriously cool! I took it up seriously during lockdown and now I’m making my own clothes and presents for my friends and family. If you’re technically minded, it’s always an awesome problem to solve. Take up sewing guys!!
Okay we need a series on this. This was actually very cool.
This brings me so much joy! I never knew this existed. I think the greatest part of this sewing machine is the fact that it actually looks like a solid machine that you could buy now and would perform well.
Holy crap I heard that this was really rare. I thought it was just a rumor but it's true. A gameboy sewing machine 😂😂
Seeing all these sewing videos reminded me how I used to watch my grandmother sew all day. Also, I can't wait for part two!
Your humor is awesome, my friend.
I will never hear the phrase "that was scary" the same way again.
This is honestly one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. It’s amazing how many things this channel has taught me not only about repairs, but also history of a media I thought I was pretty knowledgeable on. Thanks for showing me something new Elliot. 🙂
I never thought I would want to buy a sewing machine after watching a video from a channel that features Game Boys and retro tech. And yet here we are.
Elliot you are the man, absolutely brilliant. So hyped for the 2nd part
one of the most amazing videos I have seen in a good while. cant wait for the 2nd
awesome job for your first sewing project. It is not about perfection, but about getting started and the thing you have made serving a purpose.
Not that every project needs to have a practical use - a valid purpose can be looking good.
The entire vibe of this video is incredible. Very well done Elliott! What a fascinating little "accessory".
I love that "How It's Made" style intro. The quality of this channel has just sky rocketed.
I’m 100% here for the Retro Future Sewing Channel.
You gotta find someone who can document how the electronics in this work... while it’s still operational.
I love how in his other channel Elliot sounded so energetic and excited about the sewing machine and here is so calm and collected, as if he wasn't excited as fuck about it in his other channel, i love it
That's a gameboy powered 2D sewing machine. The pure ingenuity of this concept mesmerises me. It's like a cooler, older version of an Arduino powered 3D printer, and it's fascinating
As a gamer and someone who loves sewing, this video gives me so much joy!
I need this sewing machine in my life now
The suspense!! I can’t handle it!!
Love the video Elliot. Can’t wait for part 2 :)
Been waiting for ages for someone to make a detailed video about this thing...really THANK YOU ! :)
This is really cool! I remember being very mesmerized by sewing machines when we had to see a bag together in grade 6, but I completely dropped it after that class. This reignited the spark! And with game boy functionality no less. Very interested to see the next video!
OMG I NEED THIS. My 2 favorite things in one!
Holy SHIT you got the embroidery table. Jealous doesn't even come close to what I'm feeling right now.
Awesome video and thank you!
The most cool thing here is that the sleeve for DS is sewn on GameBoy. That's cool. Respect for doing it.
The editing on this one cracked me up.
Wonderful video as always.
omg?? as an embroidery machine enjoyer this is the coolest thing ever. the mario embroidery designs look really cool, that looks like a pretty legit little machine. the expensive ass brother embroidery machine i have works the same way with a big motorized attachment that clips onto the side, it’s interesting how the actual mechanics of these devices have barely changed in years. the features of the software are pretty similar to what you’d expect from a new one too, except that it’s built in and the one i have uses a touch screen. new embroidery machines with screens that display colors and stuff are STILL really expensive for some reason, the one i have was nearly $2000, this thing was ahead of it’s time and presumably cost a lot less than that when it was released lmao. it’s really awesome how they were able to give it so many useful features by using the gameboy as a display!
the sewing boy
I never expected to watch a sewing tutorial from elliot on this channel. But I loved every second.
I have learned so much cool stuff from this channel. Can't wait to see part 2 of this vid! Keep up the great work Elliot!
Those last two minutes were expertly edited and unlike anything I've seen on this channel. More of that please!
Cant wait for part 2. Got super hyped when you got the add on to make characters.
Great video! I've known about this sewing kit for years but this is by far the best video covering it on youtube because it shows someone actually USING it! Thanks for covering what no one else will on your channel!
That was sew amazing!
Joking aside, it's an awesome serious Gameboy controlled product and with the use of practical skills that has been more or less lost by the younger generations (myself included). More research, time and practice and you could be making some pretty swish things with this or a more conventional sewing machine.
Devices that are controlled by a Gameboy can seem kind of silly nowadays but it was a very clever idea at the time.
I don't know if the retro effects at the start of the video are new or not, but I definitely like it. The effects add a lot of depth to the intro. It would be a nice improvement if they slowly faded out to the modern look rather than the quick transition that this video used.
Love the channel, love the video.
I watched this with my girlfriend, who is an avid garment maker and quilter. She had words about your threading technique, but she also said to keep it up!
What you can do with just two data lanes in the link port is insane. This maschine is epic! With a gamecube nearby, you could even use your telly as the display - which I as a nearly blind person would need. Thats sooooo cool :0
I had the original Singer model (circa 2000). It was very sleek-the Bondi Blue trim matched my iMac perfectly. It was a great basic machine without the Gameboy, but all those added stitches were a real plus. Over time, the cartridge got lost, my daughter got the Gameboy, and I gave the machine to a beginner sewist. I still miss it.
Pretty good video! I did not expect to be so engrossed by a sewing machine of all things on RUclips today.
uughhhhh this video was amazing! the shots, the music, the ambiance, the Elliot, everything was perfect
Love this video. Really different but I truly enjoyed it and the fact you actually got the rare part to embroider different characters on a t-shirt, wow incredible. Can't wait for the video!
Lovely video, I love Game Boys as well as your channel, good job and keep it up with your nice content.
Absolutely loved this video. The camcorder footage at the start, quality stitching, and teaser at the end. It had everything!
Can‘t wait for the second part of the video!
You're probably the only person who could make me watch a video about sewing (and even make me wait impatiently for part 2!)
Fashion design student here, you did an impressive job eyeballing all them measurements on the fly and keeping it straight
I love to see old tech and need a sewing machine so I think you found one that stole my heart and soul.
some sewing machines used cogs to change stitches . this involved opening a door on the rear / front and changing a various shaped gear / cog to alter stitches.
Elliot STOP! I was SCREAMING when you popped on the black and white filter with the dramatic music.
The last 2 minutes really upped the ante.
You should definitely reuse some of that cliffhanger into reveal for the next video, I think it could have a much wider appeal.
Now I want a sewing machine... To make awesome things like this!! Seriously, I can't wait for the part 2!
My grandma & her sisters have owned & run a sewing & fabric shop for 50yrs, and growing up, I was strictly taught how to use a sewing machine (albeit a really old Singer) from a young age. That panicked feeling I got when I couldn't apply just the right pressure to the foot pedal & it went rocketing off, sending the needle flying, is precisely why I have such a phobia of driving now, too! 😱😱😱
Beautiful piece of engineering. I love it.
I follow you from France, your videos are great but this one stands out from your already unusual videos. I expected the result with impatience. By the way I am impressed by your level in sewing 😮😂
What I love about this channel is that you find so much obscure hardware I've only read about on trivia sites and then even more hardware that I've never heard of at all. Fantastic video.
I’ve always wanted this, I started gameboy collecting in 2014 but it got so expensive :(
As a textile artist and game enthusiast I understand your plight!💖
This is a cool video and made me subscribe. You did a good job sewing, and if you ever do more I look forward to seeing part two if it hasn't already been posted.
This is too funny. Elliot you gotta find more weird Nintendo stuff like this
I’ve never been more on the edge of my seat for a retro future video
i love the retro look you have given the intro!
Elliot, you are the goat. This is on another level of cool in my book.
P. S. Can't wait for the second part!
Loved the video my dude. Finally I get to see real footage of the infamous Gameboy sewing machine
Jesus the editing is top tier
Absolutely stellar video! NGL I kind of want to sew something for the first time now! Also those ending sequences, what a rollercoaster!
If I could upvote twice I would! Great choice of music too, Elliot
Oh my blob. The montage, the music, the camera work, all of it. It's stunning, I was feeling like watching some sort of Hans Zimmer music but video. Great job, I'm so proud, mostly because I'm watching your vids for couple od years and seeing you growing up to such extraordinary level makes me feel pumped. Live long and prosper Elliot 🖖🏻
