Thank you for the drive through the desert, perhaps one day the government will hire you to create oasis in the desert. Have a wonderful time with your family and enjoy the rest/break. In 1994 my hike mate & myself hitchhiked from Johannesburg to Hobas in the Fish River Canyon. Once completed the hike we separated & I carried on to Windhoek & Swakopmund & Walvis bay. My return journey I branched off at Keetmanshoop to visit Luderitz & Kolmanskop. My final return journey back through Keetmanshoop once again & through Grunau, Karasburg to Ariamsvlei & returning to Johannesburg. Remarkable my trek from Grunau to Johannesburg took 17 hours! Not sure if that was any record but I thought it was pretty fast since I was in long haul truck.
Your family’s journey & your travels showing off the desert brought back so many memories for me.

Is your family going to try to grow a food forest, too? It makes me think of a youtuber yhat used to libr in Phoenix, Arizona in the US that had a food forest in his back yard while all his neighbors had gravel yards. If your family ised fog nets. I bet they could get a good canapy pretty quickly and in the understory they could have plenty of other food plants and trees. It just got me thinking what could be done at your family's home in the desert when you mentioned seeing swales as solutions in the desert.
Speaking of the flash flooding that happens when it does rain in the desert, is the Namibian government planning any projects to stop the flooding? Large bolders to slow the wayer, swales, beaver dams, etc. could make such a hige difference.
Thanks for thr video. Love the daily updates! Enjoy the time with your family!

My father even though he is ofgrid with his house recycling his water gigs out on passive solar design for housesetc he doesn't feel the need to do anything like a food forest. My mother loves plants and has got very green fingers. Very wel qualified in natural healing and medicinal plants. I did have a conversation with my father this morning where he told me he started following me on youtube and he is extremely impressed by the way my land looks. Also mentioned how things could be different if all my neighbors did the same thing.. So the seeds have been planted.

I'm trying to work out what kind of merch. Danou would need a logo before he could print t-shirts or tote bags. I'd happily buy some of the gemstone stuff but it's not that related to what he's doing and obvs we'd want that profit to go to the gemstone lady. It's probably better if we just make sure we watch the youtube ads on his videos all through and make sure we're liking and commenting on each video.

With the time away and potential rains at home, when you get back the change may surprise you. I'm sure you need to set up some swales outside your farm where wildlife would benefit from it eventually. Perhaps where you go to hunt you could show them some swales to help improve the game.

Danou ! I don't know about the road rules in Namibia, but PLEASE ensure that everyone wears their seatbelt "properly" when you are driving on the roads and at normal around-town, and open-road / highway, speeds. If driving on private property, your farmland etc, and at speeds under 20 kmh / 12 mph then yes seatbelts can be considered optional (unless in steep hilly ground where vehicle rollovers are a risk). Twice in my life seatbelts have saved me from nasty injuries or worse, in car crashes. Neither of them were my fault. I look forward to future videos. cheers from New Zealand and Australia.

Love the content, but would also like to gently ask about what the seatbelt rules are in Namibia. It has been the law for such a long time in the UK it feels really wrong not to wear them. I remember maybe 40 years ago when I was little we didn't, but when the law came in we had lots of public information films about what can happen if you have to stop at speed (e.g. if a warthog jumps out in front of you) and a child either catapults into the front seat and the force kills the driver, or the child flies through the windscreen. Scared the pants off us!
