and I wish I could mentally transfer all my experience in one go for you 3 to pick from that might work in both your situations. Like yt bottle tower garden by Willem Van Cottham bc he was the first. The bottle are upside down with a filler funnel bottle, the water traveled down threw the neck to the bottle below and down to the next when a dribble arrives in the 7th bottle thats the catchment bottle I had one that started out a single metal bed frame and I turned it on its side and I placed bottles with veggies on bothsides of the head, foot, and the base, so a lot of growing room. I even made a fence with Willem's big plastic containers, ya get to see later on in the vid. The thing with the 2-3 lb square containers there's more holes in the lid that in the bottom it gives the water time to moisten before moving down into the lower containers. and corner stone where his land ends but got reminded if he's caged his hens against thieves they could take me fence lolol now I'm cheeky now its my fence sorry. I got other ideas next time it'll be wicking buckets.

We live in Wellington, near Cape Town, South Africa. As a child in Aberdeen, Great Karoo, South Africa, we picked up weak wind swallows every day in the midday heat. We revived them by sprinkling them lightly with water and keeping them in a small perforated box with an old nest to rest in. When the afternoon cooled down enough, we threw them into the air where we found them, to fly back to where they belong.

Emanual's garden will thrive once it gets going and soil quality improves. Hopefully, it will become a shining example of what can be done with very little money - and hopefully other townsfolk will want to copy it. Don't forget to try some climbers on those garden walls and fences.

It’s good that you are observing all these opportunities with your pattern understanding getting better. For the water tank I think you should get it done properly to begin with. I’m sure the job would be harder when there are established plant you won’t want to disturb around the tank. I think it would help avoid more work in the future. Also if that tank fails will they have water?

@@DoreenFraser-d5s Thanks! Local names: Afrikaans (maroela); Sclerocarya birrea ssp. caffra is a medium to large tree, usually 9 m tall, but trees up to 18 m have been recorded; it is single stemmed with a dense, spreading crown and deciduous foliage; the bark is grey and usually peels off in flat, round disks, exposing the underlying light yellow tissue; young twigs are thick and digital form with spirally arranged composite leaves at their ends; it has a thick, relatively short taproot reaching depths of 2.4 m, lateral roots branch at the upper 60 cm of soil; mycorrhizae (root fungus) are found on the fine roots. The flesh tastes tart, sweet and refreshing, although the fruit has a slight turpentine-like aroma and can give off a very unpleasant smell when decaying. Maroela can be a BIG tree, it's bark sheds, and fruit past ripe stinks. It is dioeciosis - so a male and female must be present to fruit. Probably not the trees you want growing next to your home. Suitable in Food Forest away from homes.

Paint the inside of the tank with a mixture of coarse salt and cement 50/50 mixture. Cheapest way to seal it. Added benefit is should you want to keep some fish in it later they won't die...

This is going to sound daft, but does Emmanuel have a girl dog? Their urine is particularly bad for a lot of plants, especially if the dog goes to the toilet in the same places each day. We see it on one corner of our lawn where the eldest female always goes the grass just dies off, not to mention if they also do the kicking afterwards. Just something to bear in mind for very young, fragile plants.

I vote for repairing the tank now. Waiting might cause bigger leaks when there is more pressure inside the tank after a bigger rain event, or make it more difficult to repair at a later stage. And it is better to have control over where he wants to put the water and to be ready to collect water during the rain season. The mulch looks great. Once you are hooked to Permaculture it is hard not to see a project in every corner of the land 😃Lets hope that one day the township will look like a lovely food forest and that the people are going to learn how they can grow an abundance of food. One garden at a time.👍
