Skeleton of a City | Abandoned Resort City | Destination Adventure.

  • The highly requested Salton Sea, has both disappointed and impressed me. The vision I have had in my head of the abandoned Salton City, is a far stretch from what actually remains today. This was, at one time, an urban explorers paradise, with Motels, houses, businesses and more, all just sitting and rotting. Today, all that really remains is just a skeleton of the city. The roads are all still there, and a small number of houses, but the majority of the buildings are long gone. Never the less, it was still amazing to see the infrastructure left behind of what once was. One location that I did not expect to explore, is Bombay Beach. The town of Bombay Beach, at first glance, looks nothing more than a settlement of run-aways and homeless, but a look behind the scenes will reveal a whole lot more. As you will see in the video, this little town is labeled as an Artist's Paradise, and it is exactly that. Every year, for one weekend, there is an art festival here called the Bombay Beach Biennale. Artists fly in from all over the world, buy up or take over the abandoned buildings and transform them into amazing art exhibits. After the event is over, some of the exhibits are packed up and moved, and some are left behind. Anything left behind becomes free game for other artists to change, add to and modify. The year in between events, this place is a literal art organism, consistently changing and evolving.
Before arriving to the Salton Sea, I did get to do some exploring through another amazing park, the Valley of Fire. This is the first and largest park in Nevada, and if you're in the area it is absolutely worth a visit. Las Vegas draws in hundreds of thousands of tourists each year, and I think very few of them are even aware of this beautiful place, only a short drive away. 500 million years ago, the valley of fire was all under water, and full of life. It is of course not the only place in the world that was once under water, but this prehistoric sea scape has left behind a geological playground like I have never seen before.
The locations in this episode are two completely different types of history, but that is what makes traveling so special. In a few days of traveling, you can get a glimpse into the past, where lives once flourished, and left behind a hint of their existence. Some within a lifetime ago, and some so long ago I can't even comprehend it.

You should post pictures of what, exactly, is broken on your door and what year/model your RV is and see if any of your viewers can track a new door or parts down for you. My ex picks car parts at scrap yards sometimes, and finds stuff for me when I need it. There are plenty of people who do that sort of thing who might be able to help you find the part you need. That route to the Grand Canyon is GORGEOUS. I think I have to add it to my travel list along with Arches, and Mesa Verde National Parks. Happy travels!

I buy vehicles to resell parts and I'm not gunna lie theres a growth in the demand for older vehicles and I've made good money on the "couldn't find list" but I mainly like the interactions and learning the trade and how to talk to peeps. But yea usually theres a guy that knows a guy

I look forward to and really enjoy your videos. The videography, editing, scenery, adventure, humor, and music choices is top notch!! 👌 I laughed, cuz I’m similar about avoiding people in nature. It’s too peoplely out there! Lol. That abandoned town is kind of a bummer. First, that humans came in and destroyed an ecosystem, but further that it is continually destructed today. I mean, I appreciate art, but to me, that’s mainly trash. Think of all the good it would do if the same amount of energy was in restoration of that community. Anyway, safe travels bro! ✌️

I go to the hoover dam every time I am in Vegas. It's to show my kids, as they age and can grasp it more each time, what a marvel of engineering it was for it's time. I hope you are have heard about on the Chaco Culture National Historical Park in New Mexico. Ancient ruins in America that not a lot of people know about and that doesn't get many visitors.

27 minutes of much needed escapism and distraction, thanks Dustin. Did a road trip with my friend, 21 years ago, Seattle down to San Diego. I can vividly recall the Salton Sea, hours of driving along this alien shoreline south wondering how big this body of water was? I was shocked when I found out that it was created partly by accident, whilst rerouting/damning the Colorado River. So hey, build some towns, marinas, hotels and turn it into a huge recreational lake! Now it's a chemical sink, sad story.

I've been to the the Grand Canyon about 4 times in my life. All the south side. It's amazing though how seeing it in person is so much better then seeing it on video. Just amazing the size and expanse of it. You use to be able to drive over the Hoover Dam until they built that bridge. When I was about 4, that would have been around 1967 I believe went to the Salton Sea when it was a resort. Really vague memory of desert and power boats.

Hey Dustin, I was nearby (okay about 35 miles away or so) on a vacation to the Palm Springs area for a couple weeks at the end of January. (We saw a Marron 5 concert while there.) We went hiking around the Joshua Tree National Park, with some incredible rock formations, and a look out where you can see the whole Coachella Valley => all the way to the Salton Sea. If you get time check out the Park. It's so high up even in the spring (April?) it is cool when the valley is far too hot to enjoy. I'm thinking you'll start to head north about that time. It was freezing in Vancouver today, and threatening snow. A far cry from the 26 C I enjoyed just a week ago. Keep on truckin...

Wish I could have made my way to that area, when I lived in California. I risked it all, leaving Cali, in a 1966 VW DELUXE , bus. Drove across the Badlands, with 9.0 gallons (full tank) and 10.0 gallon container, strapped to my roof rack. I drafted off into the night, amongst a convoy, hammer down at 70 mph. I ran out of FULE, In the middle of the desert. The last known home of the Manson family…
FULED up with my reserve, and joined back in the convoy. They seemed happy to see me back on the road…
I, was... that chartreuse microbus (actually I was black and red ) but do you know where I'm going with this…CONVOY.
