    Judith does not have to swallow the microphone to resonate her voice as most of the present day so called singers do. Such a clear well produced sound from this delightful girl, who can play the piano superbly too.

      Thank you. I really appreciate your reply. I remember your name on some great comments, also. At my first access to youtube, you can figure who was my first group to look up and listen to. Being from the U.S., I finally saw them and found out their names. I was HOOKED, all over, again. I don't check them out, or listen much any more. They are still, by far, my favorites, but my children and I suffered a great loss, just over a year ago and, as much as I love them, I have been barely able, emotionally, to listen to some of their songs, because of some memories associated with them. It's getting a little better though. Not to be too long winded, I figure you like pure, accurate and strong, no extraneous frills, voices. If you would, check out Danielle Bradberry, who won The Voice, in the U. S., in 2013. She is no Judith Durham, but I think she has the potential to be one of the best, nowadays. I would say, her rendition of "Born to Fly" is a prime example. Also, my name is Bill Dennis. I am on facebook, in the U. S., Mississippi. If you want, and you subscribe to facebook, you could send me a friend request, and identify yourself as "abberationify" and I will, gladly, accept it. I have a few friends, who like The Seekers, but none are quite as into them as I am. Their loss.

      wmden1, abberationify: Make that, also, three old men's group. I am from México and grew up with the music of The Seekers in my ears. Glad to know people like you with the same kind of thinking.

    • @wmden1
      @wmden1 8 лет назад +1

      Same here, and thanks for the reply. I know a Julian Pena, who is an engineer where I work and I consider him a friend. I don't know how common that name is, but he is short ant a little bit stocky, and a friend. I am wondering if you might be kin to him.

    • @RedFox.Video2023
      @RedFox.Video2023 8 лет назад +1

      wmden1: Thank you for your kindly reply. The names Peña and Pena are very common in my country. My name is José Manuel. In México we use the last names of father and mother, thus Morales Peña are like Smith or Jones. You can find me in Facebook with my name. I was born in México City but now settled in a small town near San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato. I apologize for my bad english, but I learned it self-taught.

    • @wmden1
      @wmden1 8 лет назад +2

      I have no problem, at all, understanding your writing. No apology needed. I thought the name Pena, with the squiggle mark over the n, might be pretty common. I am glad to become acquainted with another fellow Seekers fan from this side of the world. When most of my friends were crazy about The Beatles and Rolling Stones, especially the girls, The Seekers were my favorite, even above The 4 Tops and The Temptations. They haven't lost that top spot yet.

    The pure joy of deep listening: The backing orchestral score is exquisitely understated and done with such subtlety as to be barely noticeable.... blending flawlessly. The conductor's head can be seen in long shots as he instructs from the pit the placement of this delicate latticework of beauty and enhancement.

    Its the 1960s with the Seekers with visions of the Promised Land. Which is why they were The Seekers, and they were very good. It was " Some Day, One Day ", and " A World Of Our Own ", and, had they also got " Born Free ", then the Promised Land trail would have been way too misty for words.

    This is one of those songs that stands the test of time for any fair minded person. For me personally it's the perfect antidote to Dido's White flag. That's a great song too but it brings back awful memories of when my life was at its lowest point. This song, however, inspires me with hope that things will get better. They're beginning to already. White Flag is the irresistable poison. This is the antidote.

    This beautiful song represents the dynamic cross pollination that can happen between artists amongst the English speaking peoples of the world.
    The Seekers were 4 vibrant vessels of blended sound that various artists wrote expressly for.
    The Bee Gees wrote Massachusetts expressly for The Seekers, but their manager turned the song down without ever telling the members of the group anything about it!!!
    Judith Durham first found out about it years later!!!
    To say that this one song would have endeared this group to American audiences in an exponential way in 1967 would be an understatement!
    A flood of songs by American songwriters would have sprung forth in appreciation for this blended dynamism they possessed!

    • @osvaldoschilling9129
      @osvaldoschilling9129 5 лет назад +1

      Not to mention that The Seekers should have attended the Oscar ceremony in 1967 to play Georgy Girl and their manager decided they should not break a previous contract. By attending that ceremony they would immediately become known to a huge American audience. What a crucial mistake...

    This is just ONE of my Favourite favourites of the one and only Seekers. With Keith's "high", Bruce's "mid" and Athol's "bass" capped of by the amazingly gifted Judith Durham "bel canto", this is a "sonic feast"!!! I made them play it again 4 times! Have to agree with one of the comments who picked up the guys entry at around 1:57 singing in unison (if I'm not mistaken) for about 10-15 seconds before reverting to the "Seeker-sound Harmony"™ to finish off this song in fine order.

    • @osvaldoschilling9129

      There is an early recording of The Stars begin to Fall in which at a certain stage the male voices join Judith singing at the same tone in such an admirably precise way that the listener never forgets. They are not called Seekers for nothing; their purpose in music is reaching the listener soul through beauty, and have done that for 50 years.

      Indeed. I believe Judith has retired with ongoing health issues, but I read her endorsement for the boys brand new album called "The Original Seekers - Back To Our Roots". It was released only last week (June 2019) and features "songs we were doing back then and songs we wish we were doing". A heavily country feel with some rockabilly influences, all blended with the magic harmonies you'd expect from The Seekers (albeit without the amazing Judith). For those who didn't know, The Seekers were originally a 4 boy band. Judith joined them in late 1962 to replace one of the boys, Ken Ray, who left the group to marry. Check out "Back To Our Roots". Most of the tracks are fresh to RUclips now!

      The first colour broadcast in Britain was on 1st July 1967 on BBC2, and was at the Wimbledon tennis. Hence the World Cup as not in colour as you say. Colour broadcasts by BBC1 and ITV followed later. The London Palladium show was indeed a colour test in 1966 by ITV, but was presumably actually sent out in black and white.

      Americans fell way short of "appreciating" who The Seekers were due mainly to the fact that they weren't properly and formally introduced to begin with.

      They chose differing chord voiceings using the available open strings the respective capo positions gives them. Makes for a richer sound. They would be using different chord forms but the same key. its also possible one or the other or both are not in standard tuning.

      Twelve string guitars are generally tuned a half step lower to avoid undue strain on the neck. You will often see them played with a capo on the first fret to bring them back to normal pitch.
