Moved from Long Island to Wilmington about a year ago. I love it. I pay about 1300 for a newish, very dog friendly, 700 sq ft apartment that would go for probably 2800 on the Long Island, and 4k in Manhattan. I'm about 15 minutes to 3 great beaches one way and ten minutes from a fun downtown and boardwalk the other way. On Long Island illegal basement apartments go for more than this, so not sure how people think it's expensive, but different strokes I guess. The big difference for me is I don't need to work right now, so maybe that would change everything. I think minimum wage for example is a crazy low 7.25 an hour as opposed to 15 in NY....... But weather's great here, people are polite and wave to you on the street and they have killer supermarkets and a Trader Joes! (*one thing that was expensive down here was registrating a car. Cost over 400 for the year! )
400.00 for registration on your vehicle I looked it up said, it was 65.00 omg I reside in Dallas and going to purchase a used vehicle a USV have not decided yet but if your driving a Porsche. Or Mercedes I can see 400.00 a year. I am in health care, so all the clinics and Physician offices are great in Wilmington and the JAB has been lifted in the NOVANT HEALTHCARE SYSTEM AWESOME BECAUSE WE WILL NOT TAKE THE JAB SO THIS IS S BIG FACTOR ON FINDING WORK. YOUR apartment is right where I love to be in price. Do you mind sharing the Community at all that I may look at the interior and exterior trying to find Locators is impossible there for assistance Thank you so much if you can help. Ivanka
The cost of living in Wilmington NC is affordable for people who come from elsewhere like the Northern and far Western States. 20k for insurance? That is someones' entire yearly takeaway in a lot of cases. Those who have been born and raised in the area cannot afford to live in the area as salaries do not come close to the actual cost of living. The area is pretty temperate and is pleasant if you have the money to enjoy it. That being said; those numbers seem accurate for the most part but seem to be missing other important costs such as food, childcare rates/availability for the working parents, local average wages, housing availability, etc. This was probably just a quick overview of the general basics so please do not consider this as bashing of your video.
It was in reference to your friends' level of insurance, not what you stated yours was. I was not very clear there.. The difference in income from other states to our area is what I was trying to explain with that comment. @@livinginwilmington2783
How is that possible you got your home insurance so cheap. Mine is 2269 including wind hail but not flood. On nextdoor app, some people say theirs raised to over $9000. Some people got cancellation notice out of blue even.
That actually is not true. The national average for a home right now in the US is $535,800. City of Wilmington $390,000. Wilmington metro area $440,000. Though prices have gone up, they’re still below the national average, and are considered affordable and one of the most affordable coastal regions in the nation.
It depends on your perspective. Property taxes here are a lot better than even Pennsylvania. We paid $2.40 per $100 of property value in PA so $0.65 is definitely a bargain 😅 Utility bills, groceries, etc. don’t seem much different than I’m used to and I didn’t live in Philly or Pittsburgh.
I moved here in 2021 due to a job transfer, I was in Durham and my lease is up in June. The rent went from $1,085 to $1,300 in two years. I wanna move back. I can’t find anywhere to live less than $1,300 for a month unless I wanna live in a horrible place in a horrible location. It’s not worth it
On a side note I see your real estate agents. I’d love to own a home here but I can’t even qualify for an FHA right now due to having to have two emergency surgeries. My credit score was amazing until that happened. Lol. Society is so stupid
Yeah it’s a shame. It was such as great area to live before it was “discovered” and people started moving there in droves. We still go back and visit a few times a few to see friends and family. TBH we are shocked people still move there. Traffic is horrible, there is no job market and the cost of living rivals Charleston. A few years ago we moved to a coastal city further south, more than doubled our household income, better schools, and better overall life. I lived in Wilmington for over 15 years it was a great place but not really anymore. I would tell anymore looking to make the move there you would need a household income of at least $150K (minimum) or come from family money.
@@MrLaddog Agreed! I have a great job, but unless you win the damn lottery or come from the north where they pay you better, you just can’t live here anymore. I’ve been a NC native all my life and yes this city used to be small, safe, and affordable. We also didn’t have a poisonous water supply. It’s only a matter of time before the locals and their businesses are all going to have to leave. You can’t do this anywhere and expect the city to thrive. We have 50 “divided” states now due to the bad economy and I’m not blaming anyone. Covid ruined a lot of things for everyone.
We have lived downtown with children and have our offices downtown. There are parts of the downtown area that i would agree are not good areas with gang activity, however i would say the main part of downtown is an amazing tourist and business area with lively music, farmers markets and great food. One of my daughters favorite places to grab an ice cream and go for a walk!
Thanks for sharing

do you still live in Wilmington and are you still enjoying it?
@@rosemariewhitehead6662 yes I am. I like it a lot. The weather, the downtown, the beaches...
I can't wait to move to Conway SC I'll be moving from Hawaii and it's so damn expensive people have to work 3 jobs just to make it
Can you explain the water situation a little more in detail? That’s what I’m most worried about. We have to move there because of a job transfer
Do you have an updated video with real estate information. Showing examples of homes and the cost in different areas?
We just uploaded a video of different t nieghborhoods in the Topsail school district (Hampstead & Rocky Point)

How is diversity in that area?
Ehhh… depending on who you ask. As a POC, Wilmington lacks diversity.
Do not move here downtown is ruled by gangs.

How about healthcare ? Taxes ? Income taxes ? Property taxes ?
I would love to hear more about this too!
