    Honestly the conversations between Neo and the Oracle and the Architect are the most fascinating parts to watch for me. More than the fight scenes. Their conversations are just so cleverly written.

    Notice that in the first movie, Neo takes the cookie and eats it, as he is told. In Reloaded, he takes the candy, but puts it in his pocket. In Revolutions, he doesn't even take the candy. This is a subtle way of showing how he really is getting to know himself throughout the trilogy.

    • @hypnometal
      @hypnometal 4 года назад +11

      There's also the fact that in the first movie, she tells him she's not inviting him to sit down because she already knows he won't do it. Here, she invites him to sit down, and he refuses at first, but then changes his mind when she's perfectly fine with his refusal to sit down.

      Accurate perception, although the most accurate is that: The character played by Keanu Reeves has four 'elemental' ways that he 'comes' to exist throughout the 'story of The Matrix' (i.e. all the films make the entire story).
      Here, Reeves finally becomes 'aware' of his capacity for choice (he decides first, that we would 'prefer' to stand - but still sits, so he is not yet intrinsically aware of the 'capacity for power' that choice has).
      Now, I can explain all the elemental forms of Reeves (4) if required, but I feel it is unnecessary for the purposes of this discussion/clarification.
      "...How can [you] trust [me]...? ... It is a pickle, no doubt about it... bad news is that there is no way you can really know if I'm here to help you or not... you have to make up your own goddamn mind...?"
      "You didn't come here to make the choice... (about the candy), [he] already made the choice..." (Now within the story the intention is that he now has 'capacity' to possibly understand the true 'nature' of choice and why it represents a fundamental problem for human emotions - this can be clarified at the bottom with the subsequent* reference* to the next scene that explains Reeve's development in his understanding of himself, but rather, more specifically - the power/problem/paradox of 'choice').
      But for the time being, you must choose - whether to believe me or not. You must make up 'your own goddamn mind'. Then, if you can ACCEPT this, growth - to the next level, is possible.
      The last subsequent point is the aforementioned scene of 'next' *reference*.
      The Scene: The Architect --> Neo (The Matrix) = "...The problem is Choice..."
      Enjoy.
      Although, very nice post man! And I enjoy the name (seraph - look at etymological origin to find this significance).

    If you think about it, the Oracle is set up everything. She set up Morpheus to be mentor/build Neo. She set up Trinity to bind Neo into love, So that In the meeting with the Architect, which also was set up by her, Neo would reject the Architect's choice and break the cycle. She is also purposely gave almighty power to Smith, So much that the Machine can't beat Smith alone and have to accept Neo's help in exchange for "Peace". In the end, the Architect even recognized the risk of her plan.

    I've watched this scene so many times and thanks to the comments I just noticed something. "Why are you here?" -"Same reason why you are here, I love candy." I always skipped over that but now I realize that it is a lot deeper. She also said "I thought you would've figured it out by now." That is an intresting statement coming from an oracle. And what's up with the bench in the middle of seemingly randomness. I mean where are they sitting? Man this trilogy is so sick. Even Buddha would enjoy them.

      The answer to that question is later provided on the train station. "Why are you here?" Karma in the Matrix universe is defined as "What I am here to do" so the complete argument would be something along like "Why are you here? Because of Karma"

      Take it back to the first movie. When you first heard about a character called The Oracle, you had a preconceived picture of what that character would look like and their mannerisms, and I can guarantee you that picture was not of a Harlem grandmother. That was meant to fuck with Neo's (and your) perception to show you how not everything is what it seems.

    • @bryanwong5250
      @bryanwong5250 7 лет назад +5

      There's actually no real purpose of meaning in life.
      If one requires a meaning or a purpose for one's existence, one is limiting one's own existence. One is creating barriers and boundaries around one self.
      If I say, you were meant to be an architect, would you wanna be an architect? Maybe you will become one, but deep down, there's a deep longing inside you that wants to be something else, something more.
      See?
      When one has come to the realization that one has no meaning or purpose in life, one becomes boundless, infinite, unrestricted by anything, free even from freedom itself. That is the ultimate goal of life, Enlightenment.

    Time is illusory, just like space, solidity and everything else besides Pure Consciousness. What people call 'movement' is an illusion. Nothing ever truly moves, every moment is like a frame in a television show. When you watch a television show, it looks like you're seeing moving images, but the images you are seeing are not moving at all. You are seeing one frozen image after another in rapid succession, so it looks as though you are seeing moving images (even though you're not). Time is like that. Every moment in our lives is like a frozen image, an eternity of its own. And it is possible to both 'rewind' and 'fast-forward' these frozen images - this is known as 'time travel'.
    Everyone is Pure Consciousness, which is infinite and eternal, experiencing life in a temporary human form. You can call Pure Consciousness 'God' if you want, but I don't, because the word 'God' has limiting religious connotations that I would rather avoid. Pure Consciousness has free will, but when it assumes temporary human forms (which are us), it experiences predetermined lives. Everything you experience in your life (right down to the most trivial details) was chosen by your true self, Pure Consciousness. Even when some guy on the street punches you in the face. You chose to be punched in the face for whatever reason. I know this is hard to accept. I genuinely do. But it's true all the same. So at the physical level of 'reality', there is no free will. But at the most fundamental level of 'reality', there IS free will.

    i don't think oracle can really see the 'future', but she can only predict the most probable outcome by analyzing all the information she has about everyone and everything. the probability of her prediction happening can even come close to 98% or more if she has all the information that she needs to analyze it. the 'oracle' may be the closest thing that resembles the nature of advanced artificial intelligence.

    I just realized why the Oracle keeps talking about candy all the time. I thought maybe she was trying to change the subject or lighten the mood. But there is a deeper meaning behind it. The Oracle knows everything and what's about to happen in the future. She is as smart as the Architect who've created the Matrix. But if she knows everything, she must have realized that everything is really pointless and meaningless. The candy is just a string of codes that are made to look like a real candy, but it's not a real candy. So, what's the point of eating the candy? Better yet, what is the point of doing anything if the future has already been determined and you already know what's going to happen? What is the point of the Matrix if it's just a bunch of codes that have no real meaning?
    The point is that everything IS meaningless just like the candy. But we put a meaning into the meaningless world so that we can enjoy it. It does not matter if the candy is not real or if the Matrix is not a real world. It is how you put a meaning into it so that you can really enjoy living your life in this meaningless world. The Oracle knew this, so she was just enjoying the meaningless world by putting a meaning into every meaningless object, such as the candy. The future is not relevant to live a life. You have to enjoy the present moment even if it seems meaningless.

    • @jujubean8870
      @jujubean8870 8 лет назад +30

      Matt This comment is meta, Matt. Like the Oracle, you've attached a deeper meaning to an object (the candy), which may have or may not have always been meaningless, in terms of the story.

      Not a bad interpretation.. but actually the Oracle is the opposite of the Architect.
      When Neo asks her why she is here, she says: same reason, I love candy.
      Didn't you notice the color of the candy ? It was the same one Neo took from Morpheus when he was starting his Journey towards Liberation.
      She is in it to make the Architect's work Complete. The only thing he was missing in his design was free will, which of course he couldn't understand, only she does.

Are we so close-minded to only depend on what is solid, only what we can feel and physically grasp is real? Of course I was the only one taking the concept seriously - I'm alone in a family of cynics...after all, "We can never see past the choices we don't understand..." where's my Neo when I need him? :)

Thats the choice we can't see past, because for instance family or HS football if you are from texas. They are not conscious efforts of the individual to mold himself, but they are holdovers from previous generations that took nothing but constant presentation and affirmation by parties separate from self.

    I think she was referring on the surface to Neo's 'nightmares' (ie. his foresight), and on the subtext side (since pretty much everything said in these movies has subtext) - she is saying that she knows he is no longer blind to the world around him and that he sees things as they truly are - ie. he is not dreaming - he is on the path to enlightenment.

    this candy scene is quite ironinc, giving the fact that in real life the actress that played the Oracle here died during production of Diabetes. May she rest in peace, Gloria Foster. She was amazing here

    "Just have to make up your own damn mind to either accept what I'm going to tell you, or reject it". It's like we have a choice to accept it or not..... We'll all reject it initially, then with knowledge we'll learn to accept it.

    The candy like cookies are a program within the matrix. Notice that unlike previous encounters Neo does not ingest. He then takes charge of his life.

    They changed the purpose of the characters compared to the Matrix 1. Neo is more combative with the Oracle compared to the first movie. They made the 2nd and 3rd movies like comic books (e.g. The Avengers). Just my opinion.

    The closest you will get to a virtual reality is probably lucid dreaming.
    If you practice this then you can experience anything you can imagine while you sleep and dream, and it even feels extremely realistic.

  • @WaytheWestWasWon

    Remember that when the Oracle gives Neo candy or cookies, what she is really giving him is a computer programme that gives him more power.
    After he eats the cookie in the Matrix 1, he is able to dodge bullets.
    After he takes the candy here, he can fight lots of Smiths.
    Notice what she says about Smith too - he is the exact opposite, the other half of the equation. So as she makes Neo more powerful, Smith automatically becomes more powerful too, to 'balance' the equation.

    I love the oracle. In the Matrix she is a program just like the Architect. However, in symbolism the Oracle represents Mother Universe and the Architect represents conciousness control. We are all bound by the choices we make. We are all here to what we are all here to do just as what the Oracle stated. We have the choice to do good for ourselves, others, the world, and the Universe. Just as well, we have the choice to not give a shit about anyone or anything, including ourselves.

    Here's the problem with that: the Oracle's function isn't to guide Neo to be the One. The instant she began to fulfill her original programming she must have realized that the entire system was deeply flawed. Not just the Matrix, all of it. It was doomed to fail sooner rather later no matter what anyone did. She saw a possible solution in the very problem the Architect was trying to eliminate yet she didn't know if any of them would be able to do it only that one of them could do it.

    If your entire life is a reaction to circumstances set in place during your childhood, such as programming from parents & television, then your freewill is severely limited & it really isn't freewill, because programming pretty much excludes freewill.
