Old soldier, used to old gear. Had 2 breaks in service... I'm out dated & having to learn how to assemble all this new high-speed gear.
Thank you for the solid & proficient video. Now I must go to CIF to get the other section of the shoulder straps.

I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for making and posting this video.
I was in Pre- RASP and handed one of these unassembled from CIF and had no clue how to put it together. Tried asking some of the candidates that looked like they knew what they were doing, but they basically told me to politely f off and stop bothering them (OSUT 11B a$$holes go figure)....
Afterwards, when we were relieved and given our personal time, I quickly searched youtube for a tutorial and thank zeus I found this by OriginalGear.
You guys really saved my a$$, thank you

Another tip is to get a 1 inch webbing strap with buckles run it thru the outside holes just above the waist belt bend your frame a little (without breaking it) run it thru the buckle then tighten the web strap as tight as you can then put your waist belt on get it tight then release the buckle an remove the web strap if you do it right it will keep the waist belt about 1.5" - 2" off the frame instead of right on it an will help distribute the weight an save your back.

When assembling your waist strap youncan take the frame put it on its side on the floor and lightly press down amd tightening the straps. This will make the waist strap nice and taught and have more cushion and help hike the pack up a bit!

Mine is missing a couple of the buckles/straps on the main body down low (next to the tabs that hold it on the frame) maybe that's a generational difference? Mine is digital camo. I'm not sure what purpose they are supposed to serve anyway. Cinch straps?

great content. only thing that should be done differently is the strap crossing over the flap on the sustainment pouches. That strap needs to be across the front of the pouch. Done this way you can't easily open the pouches.

    • @merpius

Seems like you would just mount the shoulder straps lower by a slot or three. That would lift the whole thing up. Also make sure to compress it fully for the load and use the lifters to adjust the load; both of those could feel like sag if they are not done.

(Civilian who just wanted a big fuck off bag and a way to more easily carry it while travelling for work here)
So with the set I got, the sets of straps that secure the rear of the neck of the shoulder straps are just too short to both go through the slits in the rack and the metal rings while still reaching the velco. Is that fine? The rucksack will be holding about 50-60 lbs of stuff and it will only need to last for about 20 minutes from the truck to my hotel room.
What's also weird is I'm 99% sure I have the MOLLE 2 rucksack because just about everything on mine and the one shown in the video are the same except for the long two straps on either that you run through the rack along with the strap knots. I have two but mine are shifted up about 4 inches each, plus my upper two do not have clips but the non-clipping zinch down ones. In fact, they look exactly like the ones in the diagram at 12:26 but the ones on the actual rucksack being assembled doesn't seem like it looks like that at all. Could this be due to differences between a genuine military issue one (which I have) and a civilian copy? I'm just really curious lol

It is honestly confusing because of all the straps and all the holes and all of the straps could possibly go in all of the holes and unless you take your ADD medicine chances are you're going to put it together wrong at least once so thank you very much I think the Alice pack was much simpler but not as comfortable and I don't believe that you could carry out the same amount of equipment keeping in mind that you're supposed to attach three day assault pack to this pack I had the bag close enough for government work but I had the suspension system ass backwards so thanks again

You want something that'll last? Get a surplus military ruck made in the USA with an NSN number. Totally worth it, in my opinion. Especially because you know for a fact your bag wasn't made from inferior materials by enslaved genocide victims.
