An idea for the au I had for a while:Rose survives, and both Rose and Steven have gems. Nobody is sure why, until one fateful day. After thousands of years keeping a streak up, it happens:
ROSE GETS POOFED.
Pearl expects the secret to be let out, but to her surprise, Rose’s gem looks like a normal one. Then she picks it up and notices the back has an imprint that looks like the front, and everything clicks.
TLDR: The gem was split in two so that both Rose and Steven could live

ok so i had a different au, which rose doesn't live, however, rose has twins. this is how it goes:
So pretty much, Garnet tells rose that she will have twins (using future vision) However, only one will live.
So, a different rose quartz gem fuses with THE rose quartz. And, pretty much, the second gem, is given to the second twin.
Different AU, but I like it.

What if giving birth didn’t mean giving up your form in this AU what if she just gave birth like a normal human would? It would make sense since her gem doesn’t look split up and even if she was a hologram it cant really last forever it gets older over time but I can see where you guys are getting your ideas they are very smart!

Well, considering rose is a diamond, her body could have conjured up (as seen in yellow's extraction chamber, diamond sweat is used to create more gems.) another gem for Steven, which would mean, would it be a flat rose quartz gem, or would it be a second pink diamond?
And thinking about how its injected into the ground, imagine how much red coal rose would need to turn into shards and swallow to make another gem (dysfunctional gem, would be functionalized by diamond sweat or whatever)
Very intriguing alternate universe and theories on how steven also has a gem.

I understand but I also don't understand why Rose and Greg didn't just adopt a baby. If you know you're going to die no matter what, you would think you would adopt a baby so you can be in your baby's life. Especially for Rose. I think if she was in her baby's life, she would have been the person she always wanted to be. Having her own baby while being around would teach her so much about herself and about human beings.

In this AU maybe Steven was simply born. It already kind of doesn't make sense how Steven was born in the Canon show anyway so for this au I think Rose shapeshifted basically her entire inner body to be a female human being and then literally pushed out Steven like a regular pregnancy. Steven wouldn't be half gem, he would be I think fully human while Rose still has her gem because her gem had nothing to do with Steven's birth
Gems have been shown to be able to emulate human body systems. Amythest managed to create the entire human digestive system, shown in 2 instances(one of them being a literal Xray). So...in theory Rose could easily....recreate the assets neccesary to have a child.

Wow, just to think that if Rose had survived, Steven wouldn't be there if he did manage to get a gem. Like so many home world gems came to kill Rose, so the best way to hurt Rose would be by killing her son. I mean, I'm not sure how this would work but this made me smile!

She could theoretically make a gem for steven that allowed him to have his own set of power (and maybe healing abilities).

The only reason why pink steven said "she's gone" to white diamond is because Pink was no longer the one in control of the gem. The one who was in control was steven. The form that the gem accepted was the form of steven, That why when White diamond pulled out Steven's gem it form as steven not as Pink Diamond or Rose Quartz
Pink existance was nothing but a memory of its past. But it doesn't mean it never existed after Pink lost her PHYSICAL FORM. It shown that Steven was able to dream Pink's memories and suffering as he kept stumbling to places where his mother was once.
if pink was entirely gone, Steven wouldn't be able to dream Pink's life as a diamond because those places were never part of Steven's life so there's no way that Steven should dream about those places at all, as if those was HIS own memories
Thinking that Pink is still alive doesn't ruined the purpose of the show because she still exist through the existance of her gem. That is where the whole plot of Steven Universe revolve is because of her gem's existance
The purpose of the rejuvenator is to RESET a GEM to its original form. You can't hide the fact that steven's gem original form was Pink Diamond so it was meant to reform back as Pink Diamond
That is why they ended up creating this kind of THEORY after the rejuvenator accident. Because Steven and Pink are 2 different people that share the same gem. Steven didn't turn back because he's half human and was able to keep his memory but what really happened to his gem half where he can only explain "it feels as if I was back when I was a kid again" also gems are immortal só they can't die unless shattered but the diamonds can fix this
So we have a considerably less angsty first half of the show, and a considerably double the angsty latter half lol 😅😭😭
I love all the theories, and would like to add another, Rose used her ability to make convincing shards to make something a bit less inert, a gem that would enhance her human offspring, but didn't have an intelligence of it's own
My idea on how rose survived: When Rose gave birth to Steven, Roses gem has gotten smaller and Steven's gem is also smaller, so basically Steven took half of Roses gem. Thats my thought if you have some comments about this lemme know!

I feel like somewhere in the series they mentioned taking melted down gem remnants from broken gems and then using that and the injectors to put gems in the earth, so maybe if she had put a second gem there?? Like she made the fake shards I'm sure she could have made Steven a gem of his own
She does have the powers of a diamond so, I think that could be possible! Although instead of incubating like the other gems she could reproduce a uterus so steven could live bcs of his organic side

Actually I read a fan fiction bout this AU, Rose gives birth to Steven but he doesn't have a gem, instead as he grows up they teach him how to fight and protect himself with gem weapons.
It's really good... But if ya read it be warned it's a Steven x Pink Steven story... Pink Steven is just a gem now cause Spinel successfully killed Human Steven and Gem Steven wasn't able to save him in time.
Pink Steven wanted to see human Steven one more time so he makes a hole in the universe or something and goes to this AU where Steven is human... It's really cute and I think y'all might like he lol

um diamante pode facilmente fazer uma gem, vide o que o steven apenas com sua lagrima conseguiu fazer nascer um cascalho em familiar, e a diamante rosa conseguiu em instantes fazer um diamante para falsificar seu estilhaçamento em single pale rose, como rose quartz são feitas aparentemente apenas com a essência da diamante rosa segundo algumas falas da crew universe, acredito que a rosa poderia gerar uma gem para o steven em seu interior só não o fez para não gerar suspeita entre as crystal gems e porque ela queria ser parte do steven, e em mais um ato de egoísmo o fez, sem pensar em nenhum momento nas outras e no greg

I think I have theories about her. With rose quarts she will stilll sacrifice her phiscal form just like in the original story but instead pearl takes off the gem and she comes back.
