They are called best jockeys cause they always or most of the times ride the favorites to win, and they make a name for themselves. Look at the previous best jockeys like Bejarano, Castellano and others....they don't dance anymore. Expensive horses, good blood lines and the favorites to win a race make a best jockey. The jockeys that won the Triple Crown could have not won it if they have ridden other horses instead of the one they rode.

One thing about HOT ROD CHARLIE is that he not only WON the Louisiana Derby, but for the first time the Race was 1and 3/16 miles ! Hot Rod Charlie not only won, but Broke the Track Record going away !

I like Rock Your World, and Hot Rod, can't toss the chalk, then I need a couple long bomb's to play with them, I'm not sure just yet, until the draw, but I will look at Bourbonic ( rolling thru the plowed field), King Fury ( Kenny McPeek is underrated and may sneak in a long shot), Keepmeinmind, if he draws in could be a huge sleeper. Good list. The last couple of years I found a list of derby contenders sorted by dosage and also had foaling date. Have not been able to find that information this year. What do you think about these 2 pieces of information. Do you use them in your selection process? thank you
I think Dosage has lost alot of steam in recent years and I don't personally go by it. I don't think people use it as much as they once did. There are just too many other factors to consider. You can take every angle of handicapping and look back on Kentucky Derby and could make a case for that angle being the reason it worked. I am not saying that or foaling date isn't important but people can have just as many winners not knowing about that as those that do use it. Thanks for the comment! Marilyn, yes. The owner or trainer probably thought the horse has no chance to win the Derby. The Derby is not easy to win. The Preakness will be easier for the horse cause a lot of tire horses from the Derby will skip the Preakness.

No doubt!!! I have a video coming out soon about Top Derby Longshots. Medina Spirit is one of them. It doesn't even seem right that a Baffert horse and Medina Spirit can actually be a longshot. The horse has been crazy consistent.
This Derby is set up for a big price. Threrefore, we need a horse with the most up-side. That will be Super Stock and here is why. Arkansas was hit with an extended winter storm which made a major hit on training time. Due to this storm you can throw out the Rebel. The Arkansas Derby, which was won in a gallop by SS still has his best to come. $$$$$$$ and then some.
Agree SS is a nice horse with upside, but believe he hasn't figured it all out yet. He's been working in draw reins, which I don't love so close to the big race. Good luck!

Chad or Brad would be nice. Hopefully Brad. Yes my philosophy is if the price and pace as well as other angles are in the horses favor then still bet the horse and take a chance. That way of thinking proved well for me last year. I never want to be the one who likes a horse but don't think he/she can get the distance then it handles the distance ok and wins at a price. Not trying to be too critical bc I like your vids and I think you do a good job trying to teach ppl abt handicapping, but what you said abt Doug O'Neil is a very bad look for ppl newer to the sport. Every single one of the big time trainers has violations in their history, not just O'Neil, and there are huge differences in those violations, from abusive to the animal situations like Servis and Navarro to things that come up involving legal meds and non performance increasing suppliments not allowed on race day. An offhand comment like yours implies horseplayers are not concerned about trainers cheating as long as they get paid on their tickets, and I don't believe that's true of the vast majority of year round handicappers, we care about the horses bc without them, no sport, and we want a fair playing field. Again not trying to be super critical, just wanted to point that out. Thx for the vid and keep up the good work, best of luck to all, hardcore players and newbies.

Yeah I get upset when a trainer like O'Neil wins the Louisiana Derby with a horse but isn't there to celebrate in the winner's circle because he is out serving a suspension. I didn't mean to imply that handicappers don't care. I agree I want a level playing field. Sometimes I find my self handicapping trainers who I think are juicing their horses and that ain't right. But it is tough to grow the game and get new people involved when racing faces the kinds of issues that you mention. For instance I wake up this morning and I read the story below. To me that seems like the industry doesn't care about their future and their image to the general public outside of horse racing. The big name trainers rule the roost it seems and will keep violating the rules if the industry doesn't punish them. Or the fact that different states have different rules. Love paulick report, always count on him think he's one of the best we have for the players and the sport. Racing has always had this problem, and I believe it has gotten alot better, not worse over the last 20years or so bc of more information and more transparency across the industry. However it's a problem that is never going away without a national governing body for the sport, new rules that make sense and are equally applied and enforced on all levels. That's a long way off but there are many that support it. My opinion, what we can do to better the sport across the board, not just on this one issue, is vote with our dollars. I try to do that a few ways, supporting aftercare, wagering where I feel the gamblers are being given a decent deal as far as takeout, ect and yeah I do have a short list of barns I won't bet, but that's mostly in the claiming ranks. Thanks again for taking the time and the great communication. I'm for sure not the most knowledgeable on the subject, but I want positive change for racing and hopefully that begins when we talk about it.

@@nancymoran1730 This is wonderful Nancy! It is obvious that you care about horses and the industry. I enjoy the Paulick Report too. Read it every day and was sad when they disabled the comments. I learned a lot from the comments and could get a sense of the state of things from reading them. You make a lot of good points and I agree with them. I love horses and they have brought me a lot of joy most of my life. I wish positive things were being done for their welfare during their careers and after. Hopefully, we are moving in the right direction with HISA and some of the new whip and Lasix rules. All of which have pros and cons to those issues. Hopefully, the industry can recover and maintain some sort of relevance over the next decade or so. However, it seems the sport and image of racing is getting less popular and more controversial with each passing year. We shall see what the future holds. But I like you am all about the horse because without them none of this is possible. I just have to hope trainers and others in the industry make the horse the priority instead of greed. I know it is a business but still if the image of the general public is that horses are just a commodity and are mistreated in racing then that isn't a good sign for the future popularity of the sport. Then as far as handicappers and bettors go, I can tell you are knowledgeable about that as well. Definitely a horse to consider. Wouldn't be something if Baffert and Medina Spirit will be overlooked due to last performance in Santa Anita Derby. Hopefully, the industry can recover and maintain some sort of relevance over the next decade or so. However, it seems the sport and image of racing is getting less popular and more controversial with each passing year. We shall see what the future holds.
But I like you am all about the horse because without them none of this is possible. I just have to hope trainers and others in the industry make the horse the priority instead of greed. I know it is a business but still if the image of the general public is that horses are just a commodity and are mistreated in racing then that isn't a good sign for the future popularity of the sport.
Then as far as handicappers and bettors go, I can tell you are knowledgeable about that as well. You probably know about this but here is a good resource as well with some interesting ideas.

Definitely a horse to consider. Wouldn't be something if Baffert and Medina Spirit will be overlooked due to last performance in Santa Anita Derby. Medina Spirit will be featured in my Top 5 Derby Longshots video. I still don't think we will get 10-1 or higher when all said and done on Medina Spirit. Good luck!
