not long after you did thid review this became my "go-to" beer for a while. dont think ive drank it for almost a year and i just remembered about this review today and picking 2 cans up from the shop!
I remember my older brother was mad into this drink. Cheapish too. They were also Tottenham Hotspurs sponsor. I remember that canary yellow jersey they had. It was a nice jersey at that time !
been watching some older stuff recently, been around a short while on the channel good few months since subscribing , this proves to me u have a good pallet ! Colman's absolutely no substitute :)
I tried a can of this a while back and there must've been wrong with that particular can, it was the most tinny, disgusting thing I'd ever tried. Had to tip it down the sink
Was really popular down here in Kent as was often on draft in Shephard Neame pubs in the early 00s but I don’t think it is anymore. I’ve been drinking the cans since. Also reminds me of 90s football weren’t spurs sponsored by them
The Dutch make some great mustard. I buy them from Henri Willig. They are great with bockwurst and frankfurthers. German pils with these sausages go well.
The ingredients on the back of Ye Old Oak hot dogs are horrendous, it's all connective tissue and various forms of fat and collagen, very low meat percentage. Lidl fresh Frankfurters are really good for the price.
@@ifjlaszlo They're good when from a good source for example a beef broth made from bones etc but those Ye Old Oak hot dogs are just awful cheap rubbish.
I've bought some of those hotdogs this week going to fry them up with onions and bacon up and then put into a normal brooch bun and then maybe the the bun toasted. I garuntee it won't all fit in the buns they are small lmao but it isn't food without making a meas
I just picked up a pack of these today in my local shop UK and its brewed in UK by Carlsberg Marston's so I don't know if it tastes the same as what you drank in this.
I love pilsners and sadly here in america all the german/czech pilzner beers we get are 95% skunked by the time the consumer gets them. That said a few months ago i found Pilsner Urquel gift set with a tin lunchbox and 4 cans of PU and they were amazing. Makes me so sad that that couldn't be the case all the time.
I loved Heerta hotdogs. Reckon I had them back in the 80s- Though I avoid certain meat products these days. Holsten, haven't had that for years- Used to like it- It's been brewed in England for years. We don't get the German stuff here. Hope the Northampton water tastes good. I like their shoes though
Holsten Pils used to be available in pubs and off licenses years ago and was quite a mainstream drink. I never liked it. It always tasted rough. In the 1970s Donald Pleasence used to advertise Holsten Diat Pils which was designed for diabetics or those on a diet. Not sure if that would stand up now to the advertising standards or not.
Never had any beer from Holsten Brewery but i would love to try one . I enjoy watching your review's & in my opinion the best Hot Dog Brand from the U.S. is Nathan's All Beef Hotdogs . Look them up & I sure hope you can have one some day . Thanks for all your review's & I like that you have added food with some of the review's as well. CHEERS 🍻🍻🍻
love those herta ferters, though i usually just heat them on their own as a snack. ye olde oak are awful, like most canned ones. just mushy texture. didnt even know holsten was still going, havent seen or heard of it in years!
Holsten is made by Carlsberg. Has been for quite a few years. Its not a bad beer though. Its up there with Stella Artois, if you drink enough of it you certainly feel it and get a banging headache the next day
Ye olde oak hot dogs are basically 74% mechanically separated chicken and 3.4% chicken skin amongst other things . That's Why i find them to be dry unlike their original pork equivalent when eaten cold. so therefore for best results. Boil them and then lightly oil a frying pan and fry at a low heat to get a soft centered but crispy skinned hot dog. Add to freshly buttered finger roll with caramelised onions and heinz ketchup but also a dollop of colman's mustard and you have the perfect hot dog. Make sure that the dogs are at least 75% pork for the best overall taste .With regards to beer then any decent crisp refreshing drinkable lager will do. i personally will always go for something like heineken which doesn't detract or add anything more but just to cleanse your palette and allow for ease of consumption .
I was a kronie drinker for years then a moved to Stella until I discovered a beer in aldi, sainte etienne, its dirt cheap 2.75 for 4 cans and there 5%, it's is exactly the same as kronenburg, you should give it a try
You Jenkins are the sort of beer drinker who I despise. Your as bad as the wankers on twitter who care more about who made what's in there glass than what is actually in there glass
Simon can you consider reviewing Morrisons The Best Pizzas? I tried the Sri Lankan Chicken and also the Meat Feast and enjoyed them both. Two for £7. I think you will like
This is actually NOT a good beer, can't recommend it. Here in Hamburg (where it is brewed) they mostly sell it in very cheap looking pubs. Better try the beers from Ratsherrn, Hamburg's best and private (!) brewery!

Looks like I’m gonna have to get some Holsten pils in this weekend, nice one 😎🌭🍻🍻🍻🍻
They sell Holsten in Ontario. As they say in Canada "hotdogs are made from lips and a**holes".
In other words hotdogs are made from Donald Trump :-) 😍😍😎😋
Best TV beer adverts in the 80s and 90s by far. Had no idea they were still going!
its beer and food o clock ( 9:30 am )

Griff Rhys Jones used to advertise it back in the 80’s. The slogan was ‘all the sugar turns to alcohol ‘
Hi, I live in Alicante and there’s a brewery called Postiguet. Would you be interested in testing their beers and how can I send them to you?
if you send me a message via my Facebook Page facebook.com/RealAleCraftBeer I will get back to you. Thank you and cheers.
You can get 4 440mls cans for £4 at Tesco’s at the moment
Great review as always. Where were those finger rolls from?
Thanks Simon I feel the urge for a Holsten now! Hot dogs could do with some fried onions and tomatoe sauce on👍
The Dutch make some great mustard. I buy them from Henri Willig. They are great with bockwurst and frankfurthers. German pils with these sausages go well.
Honest and fair as usual Simon, good lad. May give Holsten another crack at the whip
Good video again... Greetings from Finland! :)
The ingredients on the back of Ye Old Oak hot dogs are horrendous, it's all connective tissue and various forms of fat and collagen, very low meat percentage.
Lidl fresh Frankfurters are really good for the price.
Connective tissue fat and collagen has great nutritional value... the product still could be terrible but for a different reason.
@@ifjlaszlo They're good when from a good source for example a beef broth made from bones etc but those Ye Old Oak hot dogs are just awful cheap rubbish.
Yes; that was my point :)
Bottle of Holsten Pils and a bottle of Castaway. Downed simultaneously used to call it a Blastaway. It’s better on its own 🤣

Recent Subscriber here. My friend Ryan showed me your channel. Good show I look forward to more videos!
Christ i have not drank Holsten pils in years...

Still a decent lager to this day, so cheal £1.20 a can most places and definitely refreshing it's kind of like a Cobra

Holsten is brewed in Northampton I think...?
I wish I was reviewing those two with you!!

Where did you buy those frankfurters Simon?
Yep Sainsbury's or Morrisons. Cheers
For the purity law, too sad but it is glucose syrup in it

Germans don't drink that stuff any more than Aussies drink Fosters do they?
I just bought some holstens . Taste kind of like special brew a tiny bit very strong tasting
love those herta ferters, though i usually just heat them on their own as a snack. ye olde oak are awful, like most canned ones. just mushy texture. didnt even know holsten was still going, havent seen or heard of it in years!
Live in oz know remember coming home from craven cottage with my son's in the 80s having a kebab and holstein pils great days
There is a german saying "Holsten knallt am dollsten" / "Holsten gets you drunk the best" - so good quality!
Holsten Pills is a classic. And with hot dogs? can't beat that!
If you can find an imported one you are lucky. My local sells the UK version with added corn syrup. Nice but I've tasted a lot better.
Holsten is my favorite Pils from a can, i like it cold biut not icecold...
Slogan: Holsten, to us men!
Rheinbacher from Aldi is a nice pilsner
I love the food reviews.
Stone the Crows! 💚

All the way from that German town called Northampton ;o)

I love the passion
Only drink holsten when they do 4 cans for £4.
I'm a kronie drinker regards lager.
Kronie for 25 years.. god's honest
I was a kronie drinker for years then a moved to Stella until I discovered a beer in aldi, sainte etienne, its dirt cheap 2.75 for 4 cans and there 5%, it's is exactly the same as kronenburg, you should give it a try
not a fan of bitter on the back end to be honest Simon 🤭
Do you ever eat vegetables?
French's Mustard.
Something Smells no English mustard is more batter then the French mustard
Holsten is Carlsberg isn’t it?
right. holsten is a brewery from hamburg, but sold to carlsberg a few years ago
Butter on a hot dog roll? Nooooo!! Mustard tommy sauce and onions
Butter makes it so much nicer when it melts
Wow. Really running out of ideas now. Or just trolling craft beer fans? What next? Reviewing Fosters & beans on toast?
Thats a great idea, let me fire up the camera.
JenkinsJenkins Jenkins I like Holsten pils and I have Holsten glass
@@realaleguide 😆

Old skool Holsten Pills must have been from Hamburg
Has anyone, watching this vid, ever tried Holsten Export? +3 and you’re charged silly
“Fresh hotdogs” because they come in a packet as opposed to a jar of brine 😂
Needs some grilled onions
Exactly beautiful with grilled onions and ketchup
Come to America. Hotdogs and beer go great with baseball.👍🥶
👍
its not a bad beer. But the smell and taste of the glucose syrup ruins it for me.
Holstein Pils = Lager/pils: 1/5
Chemical beer: 4/5
Still a nice pint.
Good beer and naughty food is cool. Crap beer and naughty food hmmmm....
its brewed by carlsberg :(
Stefan McCurley it's taste nice
a real beer at last

Holsten has always been decent lager , just fell out of fashion
To much mustard gets up ya nouse lol
They’re hardly fresh 😂😂😂
Holsten knallt am dollsten
Holsten Pils a German product? Did you just say that with a straight face? It's brewed in Northampton by Carlsberg, ya melt! 😂
This channel is really scraping the barrel man, get some good beers in and stop eating like a child
So true. Sad times here for this channel.
JenkinsJenkins Jenkins glad you agree, I’d rather wait an have better content rather than this dribble
byeee
Prefer Holsten's Pills.
