Most real Polish/Germany/Czech/Romanian/Slovakian are made with real pure water. The UK water comes from down some dirty aquifer full of unmentionable things.💩💩 probably.I try to avoid British Beers.
I hope you're not living in the UK because that's extremely disrespectful to our culture and you can leave anytime, the sooner the better. English beer is the best in the world. I'd say Scottish and Welsh beer is on a par. What you've written is extremely disrespectful to our country.
@@kpace8605 That's cool. I've travelled lately to Hungary, Czechia and Thailand. Each country I go to I respect and want to experience the best. We found excellent beer in all three countries ( even Thailand but damn was it expensive because their craft brewers are legally restricted). Drinking their best beer and you meet great people too who put you on to great nightclubs that are real underground joints. In Czechia their pilseners are amazing but they've also got other styles. Of course yours 100% right.
Actually, Tyskie, Lech and Żubr are brewed by the same company which is Kompania Piwowarska - the bigest producer of beer in Poland, 36% of the market. Kompania Piwowarska belongs to international company Asahi. Żywiec is owned by Heineken.
Went and visited Zywiec about 25 years ago. It was set up by a famous Austrian family. They got taken over by Heineken a few years ago. Also interesting that none of the Polish brewers have lowered the ABV - PRESUMABLY BECAUSE THE POLES AREN'T FOOLS AND WON'T ACCEPT WATERED-DOWN BEER!
Polish beers are in general stronger - people just want to get shitf.ced quicker. ABV has nothing to do quality. All you need to do is add some cheap glucose syrup. And some of them indeed lowered their ABV - Perla Mocne
In Poland the tax on beer is not ABV dependent. Weak and strong lagers are taxed the same, per litre. The drop in ABV content in the UK has been mostly driven by supermarkets, which want to save a few pence in tax on each can. I'm assuming most Polish lager in the UK is sold in independent Polish shops, so supermarkets don't have as big influence on the producers.
I did mention the Zubr before in one of your live shows Simon , A Polish friend at work she gave me a bottle once and yeah its definitely number 1 for a reason In Polska 😀
Tyskie is drinkable at 5% but was much better at 5.6% in the old days. Same for Lech which has been watered down over the years. Zubr is a very good beer and underrated outside Poland in my opinion, just don't drink too much too fast it does creep up on you. Zywiec is also a solid beer but it has been very difficult to find recently in all my usual shops, not sure why. PS Simon you can get it in nice brown bottles, my friend brought some back for me from Poland last year.
lived in Warsaw for 14 years...never mad about the macro stuff...Zubr is defo the best macro beer...hard to find it on tap though as I recall... fond memories of Lech...Agnieszka C had something to do with that...
First tried Zywiec at a rock show randomly held at an old Polish social hall. The bar at the venue was selling tall boys for 2 bucks a pop, and older women from the club set up shop and were selling home-made pierogis and kielbasa. Everything was so good and so cheap I almost didn't want to leave the area to head back to the show.
It’s nice knowing that you rate zubr as that is the lager I have found to be the best of the polish lagers and it’s only like £5.99 for 4x 500ml cans it’s a good deal compared to most British mass made 💩 😅
Pośród tych czterech koncernowych piw, piję jedynie Żywiec i Tyskie czasami.
I wanted to buy a bottle of beer in Morrisons this afternoon. The only Polish one was Tyskie, but it was brewed in the Netherlands. I went for a Czech Budweiser - brewed in Czechia
I've always preferred Zubr over the other Polish beers - Would be perfect snack pairing with some Polish sausage too which you can find in the supermarkets here
No Perla? I love their Chmielowa hopped lager at 6.6%. It's a belter, found it at a Polish social club in Glasgow that I often go to, the Sikorski Club, that has amazing beers at great prices. Used to be nice and quiet (they have a great menu with really good value food), but it's now been discovered by the students! Full of mullets and too-short trousers.
Was in Poland last year and got the bartender to teach me how to say Zywiec and it's: Juh (like Je m'appelle in French) Vee Etz (said quickly Juh-vee-etz) Try the white Zywiec too if you can find it. Really good!
My corner shop sells tyskie and lech. I cant drink the tyskie as its rank, but lech in a can i enjoy buying as a bit of a break from norm. Gonna have to get hold of some zubr!!
The last bottle of Lech i bought, was 4.6% and brewed in the Netherlands, by their owners, Heineken. It disappointed from the previous ones I've had, but still better than Carling or Stella
if you ever get your hands on some, i'd recommend Łomża Jasne and Amber Naturalny. These are my two favourite polish lagers. If you like something a bit darker and stronger, amber kożlak is very nice. Also Żywiec is actually the name of the place it's made. If you ever visit Poland it's a really nice place to got to, located towards the mountains, with a big river running through that leads to a huge lake. I'd also recommend the brewery tour was quite interesting, especially how the beer was rebranded during the war.
Thanks for the video. I see it more as a presentation of the top beer brands in Poland. As a Pole I don't feel, any pride in these brands and I avoid these beers. Of the Polish mass-market beers, I only recommend the Perła brand. However, when I drink beer I choose kraft brands such as Pinta or Browar Palatum.
we got cheap beer shops in city center & Polish workers on building sites load up with £1 cans of zubr etc to go to work with. Zubr the bison beer like Zubrowka the bison grass vodka. Have you tried Okocim Mockne beer.. My favourite
Well ive been drinking tyskie lately because i found it far superior to stella and kronenburg however im now on a mission to find these other polish beers and have my own tasting session. Once again another great video by this channel about one of the most important things in life!😋😎
I have been staying in/traveling to Poland for several years. The best mass-produced lager/pilsner from Poland, in my opinion, is Perla Chmielowa. I have tried all the beers in your review, but I usually avoid them.
I always liked the Zywiec logo both on the cans and on the umbrellas at the bars. I sank quite a lot of the stuff on my many trips to Wroclaw during the mid 2000's.
I have knocked up my half century, so I grew up on shit (Carlton and tooheys) beers. The only saviour in the 90’s for me was The Pump House in Sydney which brewed their own and the King George V at Picton. So I do like exploring different beers, especially with the range that is out there now. I think my 19 yo son would enjoy this one. Cheers and good review from you both.
Great video! I would love to see a comparison of nigeran Guinness foreign extra vs Irish version of Guinness foreign extra. Almost a different beer with the nigeran one as it has locally grown sorghum to flavor the beer, would be interesting to see the difference.
Zubr are such a great beer. Found it in a Warsaw supermarket. Probably the cheapest on that trip but easily the best. On the first night I got a one litre beer. Can't remember which one bit it was good. In Cracovia we got a 3 litre jug of Okocim and 2 glasses 👍
The big Polish beer companies are mostly foreign owned now (Heineken, miller etc)There is some respectable product still available but you've got to read labels. Namysłow is one I'd recommend giving a go if you can find it and the Tyskie in Tesco is brewed at 5% in Holland. Find a Polish shop and it's 5.2% and brewed in Tychy. I visit a place called Browar Miejski in Bielsko Biała, Southern Poland every other year when we visit my missus' parents and they have amazing beers. Marzen, Weissbeirs etc. If you get chance to go to Southern Poland I highly recommend you do. Its lovely there and the people, scenery, food and the beer of course will draw you back. Na zdrowie 🍻
Great vide IMO Polish beers are the best available in the UK! Zubr and Xywiec are my personal favourites. I think Zech and Tyskie have gone mainstream in the last few years and been watered down for the british market. Zubr and Xywiec are only available in corner shops i assume there bootlegged hence why there not in Tesco and the like.
Is there a difference in flavour between bottled beer and banned beer ? Seen zubr in bottles and cans with about a 80 pence difference in the polish supermarket.
drank these beers in Poland. Tyskie used to be alot better. Dont know what changed. think it was bought out by one of big breweries. my favourite polish beer was called Denbowa Mocne (stong Oak). 7% i think it was. that beer was very nice.
I enjoy Polish lagers. I get them from my local Polish shop that has beers we just do not see in the UK. All styles, dunkels, pils, baltic porters, stouts, a honey beer (Perla), a range of ABVs and all are imported included the cans. I also think there is some Romanian beers there too. Lovely stuff and better than UK efforts.
Hello, Simon, The only Polish beer that I've tried was Tatra, a 6% ABV lager, that was thirty years ago when Polish beer was hard to find in the UK. After Poland joined the EU, Polish beers became readily available here due to mass immigration of Polish people into the UK. Tatra is very refreshing and ideal for drinking on a warm summers day. The Tatra brand is owned by Zywiec. I will try more Polish beers in future.
I did like the video thank you Simon...it's good TV. I'm part Polish and part Dane so may I ask for some Danish beer battles please? I love Zywiec, but here in Australia I have never seen Zubr! On your recommendation I will hunt it out. Thanks for another great review.
Polish beers where I live are ridiculously expensive. Apart from tyskie which is in tesco. Local corner shops will sell 4 pack cans of zubr for close to £8! Personally my favourite polish beer is Okocim, original not the Mocne version
Si if you're ever struggling to find an Eastern European beer then get to the Polish shop opposite Tesco on Albany road - they stock a huge selection. I think you can also get Zweiyec on draft in the caff opposite the Clifton on Clifton Street
About 8 years ago my local corner shop was selling polish cans when it was just becoming a common thing. Am sure they had zubr at 6% in 500ml cans at like 90p a can but i never bought them back then thinking they were cheap, boring foreign beer. Really wish i did now 😂
here in the netherlands i can get them all at the night shop, just about any of them, in can that is, the bottles aren't nearly as common we have a lot of polish-style evening stores these days 5.2% 500ml versions with polish print on them, i think all of them are 5.2% here ,so i may have to check out the zubr here to find a clue on how that disparity is there edit: found an old empty can, and i stand corrected, the Zubr is indeed 6% here too, seem like legit polish cans i don't even know what it's saying anywhere lol
Been buying 0 % Lech Shandy/Radler here in Ireland from Mercury a Polish shop chain, very drinkable and and amazing flavours. I would be curious to know what think of East European Radlers , I pick up Watermelon 2% Radlers Lithuanian produced , the flavour is so real of the fruit
Update to my last comment. I thought I'd try a Tyskie from a can and I'm surprised to learn its brewed by Grolsch in the Netherlands then imported to the UK.
I wished for you to review some more Polish beers and it looks like my wish got granted by the monkey paw, lol. Nice review, Simon, although personally I wouldn't rate any of those beers as higher than 5/10, even if we were judging solely in the "International Lager" category. Hope you'll find some time this year to visit Poland, a lot has happened in the craft beer scene since the last time you visited!
Another great video 👍👍. I've got a video idea, just went into Lidl and found that there are three different types of Perlenbacher, pack of four 440ml cans, pack of six 330ml bottles and single 500ml bottles. Each of these had a different percentage ranging from 4.5% to 4.8% meaning there are potentially three different recipes on the go at once, it would be great to see you do a comparison to see which one is the nicest tasting. Also would like to hear your current opinion on Aldis Rheinbacher as I hear the recipe has changed since you covered it. Keep up the great content!
I'm from Poland and never buy Żubr, but I've often been offered it as a guest (after all, it's the best-selling beer in Poland). I remember years ago it was even darker, very tart in taste, a bit unpleasant for me, when I was still not experienced with beer. It seems to me that people drink it, mainly because it's cheap, available everywhere. When it comes to cheap lagers, I prefer something else in this style.
Hangover gear, all of em! There’s also a stronger Zubr available I believe? We used to do a set in a radio show where I live, and there was a Polish 🇵🇱 offy near the studio. Needless to say I’ve had a few of all of these. For some reason they smash my head up the next day, but all 3 of em taste lush goin’ down!
Tyskie in bottles is made in Poland but the cans are made in the Netherlands, make it make sense 🙃. Also I just got 6 250ml bottles of Super Bock Portuguese lager from Lidl for £4.99 @ 5.2% imported from Portugal, however Tesco sell Super Bock in the 660mls which is also imported from Portugal but at 4.7% 🧐🤔
Real premium lagers, even the one possible brewed elsewhere? Luckily, I have a couple of decent Polish run Supermarkets not that far from me that sell at, Zloty exchange prices so "Quids in". All of those are available, plus some excellent beers from the baltic states and the delicious Golden Pheasant (Zlaty Bazant) Czech beer. Slightly on the down side I think, at least some Tyskie is now Dutch brewed by Grolsch, near the German border. Better than our "farty lagers" though? Personally my favorite is Perla in the green and white tin. Same strength as the Zubr but pehaps a bit sweeter?
@@cehaem2 I always wondered what the confusion was about? When I bought it originally and translated it, it said it was Slovak. A couple of years later as it became more available here, it seems too many beer websites just classed it as Bohemian, therefore it's Czech? Unfortunately too many still don't realise they are separate countries today? Didn't know it was now brewed in the Czech republic too though? Hopefully Heineken won't destroy it!
@@johnp8131 it's being brewed in many countries. Style-wise it's just "Bohemian" for marketing reasons. But the original brewery is located in Slovakia
Tried all those beers in Poland although I believe I’ve had Zubr at a lower alcohol level, like at 5% abv, maybe I am mistaken? Are you sure it’s not a lower alcohol Zubr that is Poland’s most sold beer? Not fair to compare a 6% beer, ie a Bock, with ”normal” lagers. As you mention, the Zubr comes out deeper, maltier, rounder, that’s exactly how a Hellesbock compare with a Helles. Zywiec is a good beer in my book, the other three not so much. Great review regardless.
not tried the others but found Tyskie to be ok myself, and I have to say that the taste as regards water isn't down to water quality but down to the minerals dissolved in the water which obviously differs from place to place
Simon, if you know someone that's going to Western Poland ask them to bring back a can of Lech Pils. It's actually quite decent - unlike its "green" brother.
tyskie was 5.2% until not all that long ago (i actually thought 5.4% but google says 5.2% and 5% in the UK so yet another where we get fobbed off), i suspect they have ballsed it up lowering it's % to make it easier to mega mass produce, Lech i like thats a good one, but im not convinced i've had either of the other 2,,,, maybe Zywiec i might have,,, not 100% sure, but Zubr i shall seek out sounds like one for me that,,,, many thanks for the vid
OK then. Inspired by this video, I went down the bigsest Polksi Sklep in Gloucester . Unfortunately they didn't have an Zubr, but inside I got a bottlees of Amber Chmielomy and Namyslow Pils.......both of which were in the 5-6% abv range and absolutely sensational. The Amber just shaded it for me, and for a lot less than £2 per bottle I am stocking the hell up this week! Tidy beers butt!
Only ever had Tyskie and Lech beer. I often wonder Simon, when you have these multi tests, what happens when the filming is over. Do you throw the drink away! drink the whole of it (if drinkable) or store it away for later drinking.? Or pass it to a neighbour! In which case I wouldn't mind living next door!
I always go to my local Polish Supermarket for genuine Polish beer, they sell the proper San Miguel at 5.4% as well. Can someone enplane what he said by wafer malt? Just out of curiosity I just checked out a can of Tyskie and it's actully brewed in the Netherlands.
Lived in Poland in the 90s. They just served beers in straight pint glasses. Lech was a staple in bars. Good quaffing beers, but Zywiec used to give you massive hangovers! Maybe I should have drunk less?
Thank Goodness for the EU and the arrival of Polish Shops in UK. And thanks to the guys who stayed on despite the hatred, caused by Farridge and Johnson
What a tool you are pal,, enjoying starmer leadership are we?? No one has an issue with migrants that come here to work pay taxes and are law abiding but the cretins coming in on boats simply aren’t are they there who farrage and myself have an issue with, not hard working polish shop owners,
The Tyskie you have there is made in Poland but is not the original version, which has 5.6% ABV and is sold in Polish stores (and regular supermarkets) in the Netherlands. Personally it's my favourite Polish lager, but I like earthy flavours in beer, just like I enjoy the taste of beet roots and of trout, which both have an earthy flavour. Both beets and trout are popular in Central and Eastern European cuisine so I guess it's just a taste a lot of people there are into.
Lech, Tyskie and Żubr are from the same brewery (Kompania Piwowarska). Żubr is popular, because it's a cheap headbanger :P Żywiec is the most Premium brand of them all. Where is Okocim, Perła, Namysłów, Harnaś, Tatra? All are available, in corner shops, supermarkets and polish/easter european shops across whole UK If I were ranking them it would be Żywiec/Lech > Tyskie>>>>>>>>>>> Żubr
@@foxy126pl6with all respect. Bydgoszcz had their own brewery called Kujawiak. Very nice untill it were bought by large brewing company. Like Piast in Wroclaw. Theese were very nice regional lagers untill the big ones started to sell their usual piss as a local brand 😢😢

All styles, dunkels, pils, baltic porters, stouts, a honey beer (Perla), a range of ABVs and all are imported included the cans. I also think there is some Romanian beers there too. Lovely stuff and better than UK efforts.
Im the same, it’s usually zubr or lech lol
@tommykarol No, the honey beer was horrendous.
I like Warka Polish beer.🍺🍺🤗
Ive heard that tatra isnt very good tbf, wherebi live most of the beer i see is perła
Was in krakow earlier in the year. Number of the large breweries did their own wheat beer. So ended up drinking that most of the time!
Zubur is really good and the same goes for Perla pils . Would like to try them on tap though.
Great review Simon. I really want to try polish beers someday so great review mate.
Have you ever tried Krušovice it’s Slovakian beer I was curious which of these beer tastes most like Krušovice ?
About 8 years ago my local corner shop was selling polish cans when it was just becoming a common thing. Am sure they had zubr at 6% in 500ml cans at like 90p a can but i never bought them back then thinking they were cheap, boring foreign beer. Really wish i did now 😂
Technically Zubr is a low-cost and stronger version of Tyskie.
best selling but only reason for that is price here in Poland...try Baltic Porter or any craft beer next time. Thanks for video cheers.
Excited for this 1. Never seen the zubla I think.
here in the netherlands i can get them all at the night shop, just about any of them, in can that is, the bottles aren't nearly as common
we have a lot of polish-style evening stores these days
5.2% 500ml versions with polish print on them, i think all of them are 5.2% here ,so i may have to check out the zubr here to find a clue on how that disparity is there
edit: found an old empty can, and i stand corrected, the Zubr is indeed 6% here too, seem like legit polish cans i don't even know what it's saying anywhere lol
Glen Affric has a brewery? Love that place
Try Black Isle , Cromarty
Been buying 0 % Lech Shandy/Radler here in Ireland from Mercury a Polish shop chain, very drinkable and and amazing flavours.
I would be curious to know what think of East European Radlers , I pick up Watermelon 2% Radlers Lithuanian produced , the flavour is so real of the fruit
Have you tried Lomza nice Polish beer also
UK Tyskie is now brewed in the Netherlands under licence it used to be 5.6% but was reduced by the importer(Ashahi UK) to 5%
Update to my last comment.
Beeradvocate rates Zubr OK
Ratebeer gives it 2.32/5 which is also OK/average but nothing special.
Zlaty Bazant is actually Slovak but it's also brewed in the Czech Republic (among others)
Zubr has been my go to beer for a while I’m loving my polish lagers at the moment
My favourite is zubre, it’s strong and doesn’t give a nasty hangover,
It’s zubr
Tried all those beers in Poland although I believe I’ve had Zubr at a lower alcohol level, like at 5% abv, maybe I am mistaken? Are you sure it’s not a lower alcohol Zubr that is Poland’s most sold beer? Not fair to compare a 6% beer, ie a Bock, with ”normal” lagers. As you mention, the Zubr comes out deeper, maltier, rounder, that’s exactly how a Hellesbock compare with a Helles. Zywiec is a good beer in my book, the other three not so much. Great review regardless.
Perla maybe should of been involved as it's a decent one from Poland. Great review ❤
I stumbled across Zubr in a late night off licence near me and was pleasantly surprised how good it was.
not tried the others but found Tyskie to be ok myself, and I have to say that the taste as regards water isn't down to water quality but down to the minerals dissolved in the water which obviously differs from place to place
Simon, if you know someone that's going to Western Poland ask them to bring back a can of Lech Pils. It's actually quite decent - unlike its "green" brother.
You can get this in South Wales if you know where to look
tyskie was 5.2% until not all that long ago (i actually thought 5.4% but google says 5.2% and 5% in the UK so yet another where we get fobbed off), i suspect they have ballsed it up lowering it's % to make it easier to mega mass produce, Lech i like thats a good one, but im not convinced i've had either of the other 2,,,, maybe Zywiec i might have,,, not 100% sure, but Zubr i shall seek out sounds like one for me that,,,, many thanks for the vid
Can even get tyskie in spoons, never see the dark or pilsner versions in UK. Harnas is always my goto when I'm in Poland
Try going to work after 6.
Try dębowe mocne, that's my favourite Polish beer 🍺 😀
Only ever had Tyskie and Lech beer. I often wonder Simon, when you have these multi tests, what happens when the filming is over. Do you throw the drink away! drink the whole of it (if drinkable) or store it away for later drinking.? Or pass it to a neighbour! In which case I wouldn't mind living next door!
You really should try Harnaś Polish beer, it's much better than any other Polish lager.
I always go to my local Polish Supermarket for genuine Polish beer, they sell the proper San Miguel at 5.4% as well. Can someone enplane what he said by wafer malt? Just out of curiosity I just checked out a can of Tyskie and it's actully brewed in the Netherlands.
Where did you get the zubra from si?
Can you review bock beers? Thanks!
If that Tyskie is 5%, it’s the English version. Tyskie in Poland is 5.2%
Also, you won’t get a 650ml bottle in Poland, only 500ml.
Can't find if it's brewed here yet, hopefully not, but Asahi have one of the 5% tinned versions brewed at Enschede at Grolsch's newish mega brewery.
I haven't been to Poland in ages but I remember buying them in 660ml containers some 15 years ago.
Tyskie was 5.8%. So it must have dropped in strength in Poland
@@cehaem2 I live in Poland and never see 660ml bottles
@@wavell14 Again, that was before 2012.
Lech, Tyskie and Żubr are from the same brewery (Kompania Piwowarska).
Żubr is popular, because it's a cheap headbanger :P
Żywiec is the most Premium brand of them all.
Where is Okocim, Perła, Namysłów, Harnaś, Tatra? All are available, in corner shops, supermarkets and polish/easter european shops across whole UK
If I were ranking them it would be Żywiec/Lech > Tyskie>>>>>>>>>>> Żubr
Lech has no taste from what ive heard, tyskie is fine... Here in Bydgoszcz almost everyone i know drinks perła chmielowa, very good beer imo
@@FatPandalf ive heard of it! I even seen the place where the brewery was. There is now like a parking there.
Great review, what about a Kenya beer review? Tusker ❤️
Tusker is reviewed on the channel
Boring. Hot climates provoke great brand loyalty that is unmerited.
had tyskie never had the rest.where did you get the others from please? id like to try
I find all Polish beers very similar. Nice but similar.
Try Perla? In the green and white tin at 6%.
@@johnp8131 Yeah, it's OK.
Love both of these beers, zwyiec and tyskie.
Perfect for sitting round the back in the sun👌🏻
You should try Super Bock, pretty decent Portuguese beer. Can't fault it
In my old cheffing days we had a Polish shop round the corner from the restaurant. The amount of the first and last ones we'd crush after dinner service were crazy . The Zubr 👌
Live across the road from a polish off licence and man the Zubr in can is gorgeous
Have you tried Polish unpasteurized beer?
