    Hoodoo is the expression of my souls magic, the rhythm of my mind, body, and spirit, as I interact in the earth realm. It is the connection with the divine, and my people all the while being of service to God, myself, and my people. Thank you for your video, it was informative and inspiring.

    I did not know that hoodoo is a Black only spiritual practice. There's a pretty well known company which sells supplies and teaches Hoodoo Rootwork . Owned and run by a woman who is definitely not Black . ??? What are your thoughts on this?

      Don't buy it. Queen Cotaliyah( sp) she is ordained and her tools and lessons are legit. You don't want to buy "snake oil" from some hippie. Also you don't have to buy bells and whistles. For instance plain salt for protection to repel, basically for anything. Basil money and luck. Pepper, dress plain candles,etc our ancestors didn't have a lot so when you see someone telling you need this, this this they're lying.

      Also don't go to botanical
      We have to be careful because they're magic is not African. Do not buy from Mexicans. Any Hispanics from the island(Cuba Puerto) they are safe.

    I don't know if this is for me because I cannot ever see me incorporating worship of a male entity such as the Christian god. I am drawn but this is a hard and fast wall I don't want to get around.

      Yes me too. I like calling it Source or the Universe. Thinking of the most powerful force as having only a male pronoun is unbalanced and part of male supremacy or the patriarchy. I like when we see balance of what is most high or even without these finite concepts

    Xolani, thank you for this insightful teaching about Hoodoo. Your video just appeared as a suggested video for me to watch (I wasn't actively searching for it), and I'm glad that I watched it. You explained things very well! And thanks for shouting out my Iyanifa, Dr. Funlayo E. Wood at 17:36! I'm a new practitioner of Ifa, and she is my primary teacher. 🙂

    Hey all, I'm struggling to find hoodoo practitioners in my area. I'm in OKC and I've noticed there are a lot of witchcraft / wicca around here, even some white folk claiming to be hoodoo practitioners. Naturally I want to form community with elders / experienced practitioners but I feel a little defeated that I cant find that in person. Any solutions? Or does it seem like I'll have to go the digital route fully?

    To me it's very interesting how blck americans see afro religions and think it's only for them. But I think that's becouse y'all aren't as mixed as we down here in Brazil. Here we have Candomblé which is an acutal religion and not only a practcie. But all people are welcome to be a part of it. Cuz here you may look branco, but have back ancestry.

    great video only thing that troubles me is your origin story doesn’t begin early enough. john clarke said “when we start historicization with slavery everything since seems like progress” this was also greg carr’s criticism of the 1619 project. we need to begin describing african spirituality in africa first and go forth from there for these iterations to be deeply educational and not merely informative

    • @xolani
      @xolani  Год назад +6

      Thanks for watching the video and for your concern. I believe there are many ways to be deeply educational and that this offering does honor the African roots of Hoodoo. Specific examples and links between continental African spiritual practices and Hoodoo are made in the Black-only spaces that I curate, instead of on public platforms such as this. 💚

    First I know I am mixed and have European ancestors. I am trying to learn more about hoodoo because it called to me but when I called on my ancestors to help me. 4 came one was black, one was native, one was French and the last was Roman. So I am not sure if this is ok or not. But I embraced them and just hope I can get more guidance within the practice of hoodoo.

    • @renaissancewoman100
      @renaissancewoman100 Год назад +1

      Are your parents and grandparents black? It depends on how far your European ancestors go back. Because this is an ATR your ancestors may be at odds with each others.
