We've been really stepping away from that lifestyle and embracing work that resonates with us. Black Girl Magic is real. 🌟🌠🎇🏆🙌

    Ayibobo! I hope that any followup would include something about the women in Haitian Vodou-and there are many, especially in New York and Miami-who are doing exactly what we see here. Vodou is arguably the most overlooked and/or misunderstood of the Africana faiths, perhaps because it coalesced in a Black republic, the first to say "no" to slavery.

    • @senoracheapee1864
      @senoracheapee1864 2 года назад

      I'm guessing you haven't actually looked because there is more about Haitian voodoo on this platform than any other Black ethnicity. There's 2 documentaries about Haitian voodoo produced by VICE and one is about a well known NYC Haitian Priestess. And there a several others about Haitian voodoo. Black American African spirituality is actually the more overlooked spawn, according to titles that come up upon searching. And when Black American voodoo is highlighted its almost always about New Orleans.

      DNA testing are frauds. Tbh and just because you have Nigerian traces don’t mean it’s in your blood. It literally can mean that someone within your family tree married an African. Doesn’t make you have African ancestry..for example my uncle (my moms brother) married a Korean and decades from now if their great great great great great great great great grandkids would do a dna test they could literally very well be either black, white, mixed, etc. if those people do a dna test Korean would show up..does that make them have Asian in them? Absolutely not. Just there’s history in the family tree of my Korean aunt.

Whether it is Ifa, Lucumi, Cambodle, Santeria, Palo, etc... they all require initiates to pay a fee for the service, many times the price depends on the price of the items used and how many people are needed for the rituals. A good godfather/godmother will show you receipts on what and where the money goes into. I had found packaged deals ranging from $2000 to all the way into the ten thousands ($10,000 and up). Always do your research and make sure you are comfortable with your godparents who will be your teachers for life. It is like a marriage, so make sure you pick wisely. I'm still looking for mines. Spirituality isn't really an industry. Yes, it can be commodified, much like anything else in existence, but spirituality is a sense of being within yourself, how you find meaning in life, and how you connect to the world around you. I wouldn't exactly call it an industry.

      I completely agree when you start to care only about the money it always somehow backfires. I'm polytheius pagan and noticed that when people wanting more money try to just commodify it. The real spiritual people will see it and stay clear of it.

      I think the religions presented though are more of the diaspora as there is almost no materiality to most African spirituality. Some of the people shown would be viewed as straight up witchcraft in some African countries, after all, we are a continent full of diversity, and almost every tribe has their own religion. Personally, the religion of my tribe is pretty lax. Our God is basically a vacation God and worship is something that traditionally was done only for large events. The idea of praying everyday is nonexistent, as if all was going well then that meant, God was appeased. Praying everyday is akin to bothering God and the ancestors. On that note, Africa is home to a ridiculous amount of diversity and religions so what was passed on with the slave trade is impossible to know.

    "Spirituality" is a business, so easy to use it to make a lot of money off people who are desperate, and uncertain of where to go in life.
    While they are not mainstream religion, they tend to be very profitable, "removing curses," "healing," and "protection." You can take people, and get hundreds to tens of thousands out of your followers and clients. It is a win win.
    Regardless of the religion, they play on the same psychological foundations, to fit almost any background, without providing solutions that go beyond faith, or the barum effect, to therapy disguised as "spiritual work."

      @@Sonicboom238 Biblical animal sacrifice was different, and was used to purify sacred spaces and also as an offering to the only and true Holy God. Satan ALWAYS has a cheap counterfeit to everything connected to God. Moreover, today, because of Christ's sacrifice, the sacrificial system is no longer practiced. What pagans do is DEMONIC and anyone practicing same will be punished unless they repent. Period.

      @@chigasaki06 its still part of the tradition. So Animal sacrifice isn't 'demonic' .Certain Orthodox jews still sacrifice animals. Are they being 'demonic'? In the balkans certain greek orthodox christians still practice Korban. Is that satanic? Or running with the bulls? Christians have no problem with that apparently even though its a pagan practice.
