'Live at the Q' with Fiona Joy Hawkins and The Blue Dream Ensemble spans genre and style..... there is no 'sounds like'. The album is a standout performance by New Age Composer and Pianist Fiona Joy Hawkins, and with the addition of the Blue Dream Ensemble, favourites from Fiona's five award winning albums come to life.
'Always one of the brightest lights in the contemporary instrumental genre Fiona Joy Hawkins is poised to move into stardom' Will Ackerman (Founder Windham Hill Records).
Some of Australia's finest musicians including Rebecca Daniel, Andy Busuttil, Dave Ellis and John Napier join Fiona's superb and thought provoking piano with their exceptional orchestral and improvisational skills. The album shows a diverse range of experience including world influences, jazz rhythms and orchestral music. 'LIVE at the Q' is a wonderfully eclectic and musically brilliant combination.
An ARIA Finalist in Australia, Fiona Joy Hawkins was also winner of the ZMR Lifestyle Music Awards for Best Album of the year, Fiona has over 43 awards across 9 countries and has worked with internationally renowned artists including T-Bone Wolk (Hall & Oates), Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel, Dire Straits), Jeff Haynes (Pat Methany), Eugene Friesen (Paul Winter Consort) and Heather Rankin (Rankin Family) to name a few.

You look classy and absolutely beautiful as you play this lovely, touching piece. I love how your small orchestra enhances your music. Tell us about the pianos you use...we in the US have never heard the name before,
Hi Dixie, thanks for asking, I love talking about the Stuart and Sons piano. Im playing a 102 key Huon Pine piano with 4 sustain pedals. I believe they are the best in the world. Wayne Stuart reinvented the piano and as a composer I can say that there is no bend in the decay of a note, so the harmonics ring long and pure and the sounds are simply stunning. Please listen to 600 Years in a Moment (CD, SACD or Vinyl) or Christmas Joy (CD or SACD) to really hear the piano properly. And feel free to email via my website if you have any questions at all. More than happy to chat any time.

Again, back to the Stuart & Sons piano, how do they compare to Yamaha, Kawai, etc.? Is there anything that can compare to a Steinway, or are they considered lower end?
HI Dixie, When buying I think it comes back to budget. Absolute preference for me would be a Stuart and Sons or a really old Steinway B. I do love having a Yamaha when I'm on tour because they are reliably good and consistent. I had a Kawai at home for 10 years before I had a Stuart (it was all I could afford) and although it was n't the best piano in the world, I loved it like crazy cause it was all I had. If you connect with the piano you will connect with the music. I played a 100 year old upright the other night and I could make that sing and yet some brand new pianos I struggle with because they feel 'new' and somehow plastic. Its all so subjective - but thats for asking - feel free to email me through my website if you want to talk more about pianos.
