- My hiking goal in 2015 is to traverse the 273 mile Long Trail which travels the entire length of Vermont, from Massachusetts to Canada. In part 1 of my documentary I use the Pine Cobble Trail Head in Williamstown, MA as my entry point to my first step on the LT. Staying at Seth Warner shelter, night 1 proved to be a challenge with the over night lows into the mid 20's. The next day, Saturday, the plan was to hike just over 13 miles passing by the Congdon Shelter, eventually staying at Melville Nauheim Shelter, but I decided to push on and attempt to make it to Goddard Shelter(at just under 22 miles). The afternoon turned to early evening and...
The night before this adventure my wife asked me for 3 things I was apprehensive about. After much thought I shared the following with her, 1) my body holding up - I'm not getting any younger. 2) Severe weather - specifically thunderstorms. and 3) Loneliness. Follow along to see how these potential obstacles were handled.
I have a full video showing what is in my pack on this 8 day journey which can be seen here - • Lightweight Hammock Ba...
I am a backpacking enthusiast who enjoys spending my days on the trails with friends, both old and new and my nights sleeping in my hammock under a tarp. I currently live in Syracuse, NY with my wife (Angela) and 2 girls.
Thanks for watching,
Rob

Would love to have some closure about why you disappeared. I wonder where you went often and hope you’re ok. All the best. T
same!!!this was a good channel!
I agree! He needs to.come.back on. He's so likeable and down to earth...maybe one.of these days we'll see him back out there!
Wow,I just found your videos, they are great.A lot better than any tv show.I just wished that I had found them sooner.Thank You for posting......You get me laughing sometime.
Passion, passion and then more passion WOOOOOOOW😀
With a dash of enthusiasm on the side. :) Thank you for watching and the nice note. ~ Rob. 👍🏻
Looks like a great adventure Rob. Can't wait to see part 2...
Peter Sandberg Thank you Peter, I am glad you enjoyed it.
Another enjoyable hike, Rob. Thanks for sharing it with us. I got quite a laugh out of...."difficult with a 'D'" only because I have been there a couple of times myself. The one that I remember most is "Heart Attack Hill" on the LHHT. That one set my quads and my lungs on fire. Your mantra was, "left, right, left, right" and mine is always, "just another 50 feet, just another 50 feet, just another 50 feet..." Haha. I'm looking forward to part 2.
Great Lakes Backpacker Thanks for that. Easy is never a word that comes up when talking about backpacking trips :) incredible does many times though! 50 more, 50 more I like it. Thanks for watching, I have been working at night on part 2.
In 1980, a group of 8 of us 11th graders, including Dave Schools of Widespread Panic became End to Enders. We did it in 33 days. Manchester Ctr we ate at Denny's and that was a good break. Killington, Camel's Hump etc made for an awesome adventure.
Just started watching your videos after watching peter nyberg's channel....seems you packup and hike away from where you camped then stop for breakfast...wouldnt it be easier to eat before you packup the first time....love the videos...i live just sout a hour or so from the Finger lakes National forest...and about a half hour north of the PA Grand canyon....great hiking in the area...keep up the great videos as long as you enjoy it is all that matters,it cleanses the mind and soul....
Thanks. I like to get out of camp quick (20 minutes) then get a few hours walking in and eat breakfast at my first break (which I would be taking anyways). My favorite time to walk is first thing, watching the woods come to life.
I also camped (in the White Mountains) on that Friday night of Memorial Day weekend. It was cold. We got some sleet and light snow! I used the Warbonnet hammock sock for the first time that night and it worked wonders! Blocked any wind getting under the tarp and raised the temp in the hammock. You gotta try one of those! I also have a 20 degree HG quilt too, that helped as well. Great video!
Anthony Loffredio Hey Anthony! I will look into one. I brought my 40F set this time knowing I was pushing the limits that first night or 2. The weight savings was too much to pass on. I hope you had a blast on your trip!
Very nice video. We parked at Ithiel Falls today and hiked up to Roundtop Shelter to check it out for a hammock hang. After all that my son and I are going to hang at Prospect Rock instead. Looking forward to your next video.
Pumpkin Village Maple Perfect, Prospect had me at hello! :)
Awesome video, buddy! Looks like a fantastic trip!
OutLan Thanks Lance! It was fun.
Thanks for sharing!
Great to see so much enjoyment on the trail. You really get as much as you can out of the wilderness.
Nature Calls AMEN to that - only limited time in the wild - try to squeeze as much joy as I can :) I am glad you enjoyed this. Thanks
Just discovering this channel, so great to see how you love being out in nature! thanks for the tip on the water bottle holder! easy and practical! Love the unbridled enthusiasm in your video's while hiking! love it. Happy Trails!
Rob that looks like you had an excellent time. Would love to do a long trip like that. Great video
That Hiking Guy Thanks for that! Fun was had - even in the hard times!
I'm thinking of hiking The Long Trail next summer and enjoyed your first video. The selfie stick was a good idea along w/ the mini-tripod. I really enjoyed the variety of footage you can get w/ it.
I hope to watch the rest soon. I have not done an overnight-er before and hope a year should be enough time to get some gear, get in shape and plan the adventure. I currently hike 8-12 miles on Saturdays w/ a very light day pack. I bought a Osprey 58 ltr pack before Christmas. Now it's time to save up and start getting the rest of my gear.
I'm going to buy the Green Mountain Club guide and read it from cover to cover along w/ the waterproof map. The new guide should be coming out any day now. I'm like to film along the way and hope there are locations to recharge batteries and upload over WIFI.

Awesome Journey! Looking forward to part 2! You are a blessed man!
TomsBackwoods Thank you x 2 :)
Hi - just started watching your videos and I'm really enjoying them. Thanks for taking us with you, dude.
What a joy, Rob. That was fun! Keep doing what you're doing, bro.
featheredprop Thanks Dane. Left - Right - Left - Right :)
This past Memorial Day, my wife and I stayed at Seth Warner shelter our first night (Friday), and sure enough, I was thinking about you because we heard lots of gunshots and tires screeching (sounded like someone was stuck in the mud). Kept us up from like 1am on. So strange!
Sure would love to see your vids of you finishing this trail someday! This channel was what got me into hammock camping and back into backpacking.. Hope you're doing well-- Take care..
An excellent first installment. You had me scratching my head about where you spent your second night following your spot track, but I eventually figured it out.
Those were indeed some sunny beeches :^)
In my experience there are three places where you are most likely to lose the trail: road crossings and trailheads; mountain peaks; and when the trail follows a woods road for a while. It's very easy to just keep following the woods road. I've done it more than once.
Looking forward to future episodes.
--Peter (@sunnybeeches)
Peter Nyberg :) agreed on all 3. Sunshine on the beeches!
Great video Rob! Sure looks like some pretty country. I got to hang for the first time with my 40F quilts last weekend and achieved hammock nirvana!! Glad you made it back safe and sound and cant wait for part 2.
Eric
MissouriMan1968 Thanks Eric - I hope you had a blast! I know I did.

WoodsTrekka' :)
lmao! at 16:21 we got lost at the same spot and went all the way down and crossed a stream and then realized we went the wrong way. I'm glad we weren't the only ones. luckily another hiker was coming back and told us it was the wrong way
+Jordan Weisberg ;)
Yeah definitely try the sock. It makes a huge difference when you can keep the cold air off of you in a hammock. It's worth the 9.5 oz. it only works with a 10 foot hammock, but you can by things called Travel Extenders for an 11 foot. Check out the info here: www.warbonnetoutdoors.com/blackbird-traveler-accessories/
Nice video. I hope you didn't have any encounters with the Bennington Beast. The Glastenbury area has a long history of mysterious disappearances. Can't wait for part 2
1960HikerDude Haha - no, no encounters...that I know of :) For some strange reason I have a craving for sausage, peppers and onions for dinner tonight! Thanks for watching :)
Love you channel!! Watching the VLT series for the second time. Do you have a detail on how you rig your water bottles to the shoulder straps? I like the idea of keeping it in sight and I would like to ditch my water bladder..
+Michael Mariotto Thanks for that. at the 40:40 mark of his video I show how I do it. Thanks for watching along. ruclips.net/video/ZVS1LAsxnM0/видео.html
+Michael Marziotto if you check out my other videos I just posted one showing haw a few weeks ago.
Man you drink a TON of water. I'm 6'2" 170 and drink about 3 maybe 4 liters per day when hiking 20 miles per day on the AT. WOW!
I'm heading to SIT college in Brattleboro in two months but I want to hike a few times a week to get in shape. It looks good. Hopefully I can find a regular trail to do that lasts a few hours. Do people hike in the Winter?
Hey do you have the S straps or J straps on the ULA? Excellent video by the way!
Nice Rob!
***** Thanks Michael! Have you been out in the new hammocks yet?
Rob, the Hennessey's were for my 3 kids. We have been out about 3 times with them. Real nice systems but I'll never give up the Warbonnet blackbird. Two of my longtime hiking buddies and I are headed to the Superior Hiking Trail this Friday for 10 glorious days! Hope to have some stuff to show when we return.
***** WOW! I knew the HH were for the kids - glad to hear you have been out. 10 days - that is terrific! Enjoy my friend, it certainly does the mind, body and soul good.
The long trail is on my bucket list. So is the 100 miles wilderness. Thanks for sharing!
I’d like to see you do it from north to south
Hey Rob! Is there any trail magic there?
Charles Bernth There sure is, although a bit early in the season for the AT thru hikers. I did see a pack of tuna and a CAN of pineapple. If only I had a can opener! :)
Where have you been? Hope everything is good
Why he don't just keep walk and walk until he reachs 10 miles?
Man you must really go through some fuel. 20 minutes. Another 20 minutes to soak and let cool.
Fancy feet?
