You make a good point man. You can pretty easily tell the ones that have potential, even though they don’t have much experience yet. The ones that show up on time every day, and aren’t cocky acting like they know it all, and actually do have a willingness to learn, and don’t constantly have their eyes on their damn phone. At our company, whenever we hire a new driver, one of our experienced drivers drives the first half of the day, and try’s to explain things to them, while the new hire rides passenger and observes. Then the second half of the day, they switch seats and our guy observes and tries to teach them that it’s not hard to do, and that they will pick it up in no time at all as long as they just pay attention to what they are doing and be aware of what’s going on all around them. I’ve had to flip them back over a few times and I always tell them, learn from this, think about what caused it. I said when you are backing up to dump, use those mirrors, pay attention to what the ground looks like where those tires are going, and watch that bed, if you see it start to lean, stop what you’re doing and pull back up a little bit to take the lean out of that bed, and then dump it. Let the dozer push that shit back if the ground is uneven or soft. It’s just not worth tearing up equipment or somebody getting hurt. If the dozer operator wants to complain about it, tell him to go fuck himself. Hahahahaha
