What a lot of people don't realize is that the Poodle was a hunting dog, water dog and the original retriever - so to enable them to swim better retrieving birds, they would cut the heavy coat off. The FIRST dogs to be shown in Obedience at Madison Square Gardens, were Blanche Saunders' Standard Poodles. Mostly black. They're not easy to train in spite of being so intelligent, because theyr'e too smart for everyone, so they're tricky. Good book, worth reading.

Wonderful presentation & is the 5th Std. Poodle to win BIS. & FIRST Std. Poodle, in Many years!! CONGRATulations, on a TERRIFIC performance! Jan & Poo's :-)
Out of all the hears this show has been in existence, a standard poodle has won only 5 times (the last one in 1991). Not sure why people keep complaining that they always win this show..?? Either way, poodle breeders are breeding some really nice dogs (looking past the haircut) and this is a beautiful example of a poodle.
Why do they win? You have to look at what the breeders are doing. Are they getting closer to their standard than other breeds? And they don't *always* win. She's only the 5th SP to win at Westminster. That means in 140+ times they haven't. Other breeds need to do better. And I have Dalmatians who are in the same group as the SP so I've said the same thing but I catch myself.
A Standard has not taken BIS at Westminster since 1991, that's almost 30 years. So therefore your thinking is incorrect. Siba is pure perfection and is 100% what you should strive for when breeding a Standard Poodle. She won because she is put together nicely, is a squarely built dog with nice chest, a straight back, and great placement of everything. People think they win all the time but in reality they don't. Wire Fox Terriers are the most winning-est breed at the Wesminster.
Yes, I agree. Conrad owned that ring and the Havanese was outstanding as well. Haven't seen a Sheltie as nice as Conrad in a long time. Sorry it wasn't his day.
Okay, Standard Poodles actually creep me out and 5:57 didn't help at all but congrats to Siba. Much love to Daniel the Retriever and Conrad the Sheltie.
Considering Siba’s impeccable gait and structure, she really deserved the win. Of course it’s all on match the breed standard and siba had the best with the least faults
you can't see it, doesn't mean he necessarily did it, he may have just "blocked" her with his palm, I sometimes do that with my dog if she's too pushy, I just place my open palm in front of her snout without any contact
dysfunksjon Agreed, I’m not trying to accuse the guy, but at least a few of us saw that and thought the same thing. I would think anyone would have the sense not to do that on live national tv. It would be great if there was another angle, but this is the only video i can find.
I think because the dog sneezed, he probably quickly wiped its face. One of the most important responsibilities of the handler is to make ensure the dog looks its best. The fast motion could have easily startled the dog.
Beautiful Standard Poodle! I'm so glad this dog won best in show! When I was younger and didn't know any better, I thought this breed was groomed the way they are because their owners wanted to have a fancy looking dog. 😁 Well, that's the farthest thing from the truth. The Standard Poodle is groomed this way to protect their joints when they enter extremely cold water to retrieve something. Their ankles, shoulders and head are all protected by their extremely long fur but the rest of their body is shaved so that there is less resistance as they move through the water! How's that?😁😉
Were you surprised that Siba the standard poodle won Best in Show?

*Judges step away*
Siba: where is the food??
I could never judge, I love them all.
Yey Siba!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You go girl!!!!! Beautiful baby.
Can't wait for the day a Golden wins! Hopefully in the very near future.
I'm sorry but I think this was the year of the golden retriever, is such a shame it didn't win...again. Daniel was amazing, :'(
Congratulations Siba :)
Congrats to the Whippet and to that beautiful Golden who won Sporting..........I am partial to Boxers/ just gorgeous; and they ALL are. But that Poodle was exceptional. Thanks.
I like Conrad 😀
She is SO beautiful ❤ I’m obsessed
SIBA what a magestic dog 😱 Daniel was cute but siba also deserved win
Wonderful presentation & is the 5th Std. Poodle to win BIS. & FIRST Std. Poodle, in Many years!! CONGRATulations, on a TERRIFIC performance! Jan & Poo's :-)
Poodles are the best!
Well other popular breeds like golden retriever have never won so I think 5 times are a lot in comparison ^^U
Araceli •Chely• It’s not a popularity contest. That’s not how dog shows work.
It honestly is not a popularity contest but I hope to see a Golden Retriever win Best on Show one day. It's basically going to happen some day.
I love havanese, that one was adorable!
I thought the Sheltie and the Havanese really strutted their stuff. Was rooting for Conrad, the Sheltie, but I was not the judge.
I was for the sheltie too, when u get to this level , winning the grp. They're all almost perfect specimens of their breed. Comes down to performance.
Siba is awesome, but this should have been the year of the golden. poodles always win.
Pawsitive Leader poodles win because they are perfection
Pawsitive Leader Poodles have mastered the art of elegance, but I think that the Golden was right there with the poodle, man he was the perfect Golden
A standard poodle hasn't won best in show since early 90's....This poodle was perfection!!
Beautiful winner! So healthy and beautiful. Wow I love that black. Somehow it looks blacker than black. Like highly pigmented black. Gorgeous!! 💖💖💖💖
All dogs rock. Only Poodles rock and roll and they do it with style. 🐩. My Pound Poodle (aka rescue Poodles) tells me this every day.
How does one choose? They are all gorgeous!
I just bought my first standard poodle puppy 2 weeks ago she is cute but also a pain in the neck
For me they are all champion
congratulations to the puddle what a pretty interesting looking DOG, congratulations Amen.
Best breed, period.
2:18 oh my god, he scared me 😂
Wow, just gorgeous dogs!
Should have been the Sheltie Conrad but that is just my opinion. He looked like he was having a lot of fun on the floor.
All gorgeous dogs, but I thought the Sheltie was the best - just really strutting his stuff out there.
Yes, I agree. Conrad owned that ring and the Havanese was outstanding as well. Haven't seen a Sheltie as nice as Conrad in a long time. Sorry it wasn't his day.
That was so dang cute. Loved that.
どの犬種も美しく健全ですね。生きてる間に一度は見に行きたいな。
You go GIRL!......SIBA IS Gorgeous! Strutting like true DivaDog...lol!
Okay, Standard Poodles actually creep me out and 5:57 didn't help at all but congrats to Siba. Much love to Daniel the Retriever and Conrad the Sheltie.
Black power✊🏿Go Siba!
That poodle is absolutely GORGEOUS!
Man, Daniel (the Golden) should have won.
Daniel was robbed
Considering Siba’s impeccable gait and structure, she really deserved the win. Of course it’s all on match the breed standard and siba had the best with the least faults
Go Siba!!!
4:59 , did that guy hit the boxer? I don’t watch these competitions, is that normal?
That's what I asked as well..certainly looks it
you can't see it, doesn't mean he necessarily did it, he may have just "blocked" her with his palm, I sometimes do that with my dog if she's too pushy, I just place my open palm in front of her snout without any contact
dysfunksjon Agreed, I’m not trying to accuse the guy, but at least a few of us saw that and thought the same thing.
Vanessa Rahimi , yes the boxer was sneezing.
siba is pretty.conrad a doll.i be glad when rough collie won.
All dogs are winners to me. 🐕🐩
Love them all
Very beautiful dog. I love the whippet also.
How's that?😁😉
Siba meraviglia
Babyyyyy that hair is cut for the gods!!!! 😂😂
Hope I live to see a whippet win in my lifetime!
