I heard this song on a cream cheese commercial of all places lol. Omagoodness. I had to find out the name and who sang it! Love the words, the music and her voice.
Smart man,! 2nd song used in a commercial! Anyone who knows what love is will understand. The original time is on my side. And her 1st hit . Wish someone would care. And countless other gems! A musical treasure! We almost lost her in hurricane Katrina! Enjoy!
Me too !! The Intro had me spellbound. I grew up on Irma & Rufus Thomas R&B. 60's,70's. Check out family recordings. Takes me back, but still so conspiracy. Didn't remember this one, but I have it now.
I first heard it on the cream cheese commercial and ever since I fell in love with this sound but didn’t know who the artist was I had to look her up this song speaks to my heart and soul and I am so glad I found the entire song which I listen to several times throughout the day I absolutely love it.
Hello Patsy, My ideal job would be to watch for songs in places like a commercial of all places.. call any Artist or Family still alive for their royalties. I'm a fan of Lyrics.... Ovy I would charge. But it would be worth it. Blessings To You and Your Family... Namaste
Me too , and honestly from the clip on the commercial it kinda sounded like a Taylor Swift style song but finally finding and listening to the whole song it’s much better
She is known as the "Soul Queen of New Orleans". Thomas is a contemporary of Aretha Franklin and Etta James, but never experienced their level of commercial success. In 2007, she won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album for "After the Rain", her first Grammy in a career spanning over 50 years.
Me too, just now. Lol. It's neat to see how many others discovered the song the same way. Most people wouldn't have paid attention to the music in a commercial... let alone what little they played it in that commercial. I love music , so I'm always noticing interesting music snippets
I did the same thing I had a heck of a time to fine the singer ,,I love her voice an her style of music I fell in love with her songs but this one this one stock out more then gold could ever shine she's a true diamond
We owe so much to the black artists that changed forever the standard of music in this country. Their talent and creativity remain unparalleled. I'm so grateful to have experienced that 60s music explosion and still love it today - as fresh now as then. Thank you all for the gifts you shared. ❤
You are so right many black artists had talent got overlooked black artist set the standard in creativity wow this voice I heard part of the song in the Philly Cheese Commercial.
It’s amazing how many absolutely terrific songs I’ve never heard. Fewer, probably, than the absolutely terrific books I haven’t read. We are here but a short time.
Yes, I had to google the Philadelphia Cream Cheese latest commercial and here is the result: Created in partnership with AOR Gut, directed by award-winning director Ian Schwartz and set to Irma Thomas' classic 1965 single “Take a Look,” three brand spots lean into the sensory experience that tasting Philadelphia cream cheese can bring. This is a beautiful song. Sad on me that I didn't remember this song, because I am 63 years old, I guest I was just to full of Motown. This is an absolute classic beautiful song,
Please, in God's name why wasn't this a million selling single when it was released in late 1965. I bought this fantastic Irma Thomas 45 and couldn't wait to play the promo version my radio show. I never got the chance. It only made it to #118 on the Billboard Bubbling Under chart. We were a top 40 radio station and our PD wouldn't put the song in our station rotation list. The song was written by the incredible songwriter Allen Toussaint the writer of "Southern Nights", "Working In The Coal Mine, "Lipstick Traces", "Mother In-Law" and many other hits. Irma Should have had her second hit with this one. "Wish Someone Would Care" was her first top 20 hit. It also should have been a million selling hit.
Like many here, I discovered the this beautiful song on The Philadelphia Cream Cheese Commercial. I did know of Irma Thomas before from her other songs, but I had not heard this beauty. It seems like these days commercials have the best songs. I have discovered many greats songs on commercials. It's a shame radio stations don't play great songs like this when there is still an audience that appreciates these songs and artists' talents.
Like some of the below or above comments I Shazam'd cream cheese commercial. That vocal hook and then to listen in full . What a beautiful song . Love it . Songs like this that make your day ❤️
Me too... just now I saw a Philadelphia cream cheese commercial...I heard a snippet of this song and was like, wow what is that. So I had Google listen to the snippet and it pulled up the video on you tube. Pretty amazing that Google can do that with hearing just a few words

Who would have ever thought I - and so many others - would stumble onto this artist's amazing voice and this song after viewing a cream cheese commercial. Irma's voice is as smooth as cream. What a wonderful recording.
Never heard this song until I seen the cream cheese commercial. WOW what a song and this lady has a beautiful voice. Why have I not heard this song on the oldies list? Glad they used it for the commercial and I hope to hear more of her songs.
wow, Irma on RUclips, how cool..I remember as a kid, she was to sing Wish Someone Would Care on American Bandstand and it was pre-empted...the world would've known her sooner..she is a New Orleans living legend! ty for posting
Wow! Irma Thomas has a wonderful voice. I honestly don't recall hearing her before until I heard her on the philadelphia cream cheese commercial like so many other people have commented. She has such a beautiful voice that seems to resonate through my body and soul. Awesome!!
Got here bc of the Philly Cream Cheese commercial. What a great song! I’m 60 years old, I’ve listened to rock and roll since I was 7 and yes to Top 40, Pop, Country and Soul. Have never heard it played. I think it’s so cool when you “find” an “old, new” song! Do you agree? For example, when I’d watch Mad Men and “found” the Porpoise Song by The Monkees, have any of you listened to that song? It’s more Iron Butterfly/Jefferson Airplane than it’s is The Monkees. Anyways, just wanted to share my thoughts and happiness on finding this great song and talented artist. Does it sound 1960s countryish to you?
I’m 38 years old. How did I grow up with the oldies and never heard this song? Heard it on a commercial. Liked it and looked it up. Just shows the oldies are a million times better than today’s music.
Googled the lyrics from the abc show blue sky maybe it's called the commercial for it. I love this song it's so good her voice is so pure. Thank you abc for usingvthst sound clip.
I heard this song on the same commercial everyone else did! Never heard it before, but I love this song and Irma Thomas has the most beautiful voice as soon as she sings the first few words in the commercial! I wish I could find one of her CDs. Maybe on Amazon. Such a lovely voice with a beautifully written song! I'm so glad I heard it on the cream cheese commercial!

I did the same thing, had to stop what I was doing & research. Plus it’s perfect for the commercial too. Now she & the song are on our radar!
That makes at Least 3 of us. loveeeeee this song!
Thank God for commercials! I fell in love with this song when I was in the midst of falling in love happy memories 1997!

I’ll be honest, I’ve never heard of her before, but wow what a voice. Absolutely incredible. I’m a fan now for sure

Kevin, same here!! When I saw it came out in 1965 I said to myself “how did I miss that! She undoubtably had the wrong managers back then.
How awesome!! Also those bras should come back in style. Besides in a Katy Perry video w/ flames lol...This Lady was. GREATNESS
Me too !! The Intro had me spellbound. I grew up on Irma & Rufus Thomas R&B. 60's,70's. Check out family recordings. Takes me back, but still so conspiracy. Didn't remember this one, but I have it now.
I typed Contemporary! Not conspiracy. Spellchecker Yuk.
The song curator for that cream cheese commercial is absolute genius💕
Right? I remember this song from my childhood. Saw the commercial and immediately came here.

One of the most beautiful woman I know-as a person. And my favourite singer in New Orleans. Her gospel shows are other-worldly.
