  • Check out this sneak preview of the App Mall, which will be coming to ChromeOS in the next couple of months.
The great thing about Chromebooks is that you can use plenty of apps, but these apps may be available as an Android app from the Play Store, a Linux app or a Progressive Web App (PWA).
I've said for some time that PWAs are the future because they allow developers to concentrate on one app that will work across all computer types.
The issue is it can be difficult to know if certain apps are available as a PWA, and the App Mall coming soon to the Chromebook fixes that.
Once you've installed the App Mall it only shows apps that work great on the Chromebook. This prevents you having to download numerous Android apps before you find one that works well on your computer.
Another great benefit of the App Mall is that it shows where these apps are available. Therefore, if the app is available as an Android app and a PWA it will show you this.
It also gives you shortcuts to quickly download the apps. This makes it much easier for anyone looking to download a PWA. There is no more research and visiting websites to find out whether a PWA exists.
You also have a search option so you can search for an app to see what platforms it's available on. On top of this, there is a games section, which provides a list of games that work well on your Chromebook.
You will be able to get access to the App Mall once your Chromebook updates to Chrome OS 126, however, to access it you'll need to enable a flag. I've used it and it's working perfectly fine, so I'm sure when it's officially released on the ChromeOS stable channel it will be even better.
This is a great new addition to ChromeOS.

@@anonymous12B Yes l'm replying to your message with the very same bought 3 years ago from lenovo. This was cheap and chearfull but grossly underpowered. It falls over if you try and run android apps. It is on the heavy side but it's saving grace is a decent display. The detachable keyboard has too much movement when closed and on travel days I oftek found that it had powered on and run the battery down. However, what I'm talking about now is a dedicated tablet, no keyboard, lightweight, thin, excelllent display with a more powerful processor (probably arm) that runs android apps with ease.

So it's like a store for apps specifically for full desktop functionality? I currently use just PWAs and have Android turned off and just Linux to fill the gap.

Do you still use your Pixelbook Go? If so could you please do a re-review of it for 2024?

I still use my Pixelbook Go. I'll not be doing another review of it though, as it's been around for sometime now.
