So far it was between the legion go and rog ally, because steamdeck isn't worth it for me with less performance/less games overall to play (xbox game pass is honestly a gem, and let's not talk about piracy + the ease of using windows 11 for work related stuff). If I had a steamdeck I wouldn't buy this either, or the first gen Rog Ally. It's like going from an iphone 15 to an iphone 16, sure it's like 5% better, but it's not worth it. @@spookyclaws5350 I dislike it because the value proposition compared to the Deck is miserable. Why would I buy something that's slightly better for triple the price?
The one thing i don’t like about my Ally and other windows handhelds besides Windows. Is they have offset sticks and diagonal d-pad/face buttons. For me it forces your hands to grip lower and higher to reach like the Switch layout. Vs the Steam Deck that has even sticks with d-pad and face bottoms right next to each other. And they’re all at the top while the Ally layout is spread out on the top half, Steam Deck is just more comfortable to hold honestly.
Why do people care about Asus selling every year? I've seen phone users who only call and text start screaming to get the newest phone. But the point for me is, just don't buy one after one singular year and wait maybe 2-3 years? It's still GREAT for those who never owned a handheld before and want the latest one.
“We cant live our lives just waiting for the next upgrade” uuuuhh yes we can bc the moment that upgrade hits the shelves the previous model is soooo much cheaper. So for people like me who dont really mind getting one gen behind others. I can say in all honesty we can wait if that saves us around a few 100 euro’s on the last gen. Not everyone has that dollar/euro tree in his backyard ^^.
I grabbed an Ally Z1x for $380, and it had a 2tb storage upgrade done by the previous owner. Let them come out with a new device every month for all I care. The deals on 2nd hand last Gen handheld is too good to pass by.

I also saw a second hand rog ally x for like 600$ (when it's normally 900$ new here) but it seemed suspicious so I didn't message the guy. You honestly got such a good deal
I saw a video today about new solid state batteries. They're saying you can charge a solid state battery in 30 minutes and a single charge could keep your phone charged for as long as a week. If all that's true, things like a 2-3 hour battery life will soon be a thing of the past.
If you avoid every company Gamers Nexus criticise you'd end up living in a cave playing with stones. Even then Steve would be doing a 10 hour Deepdale into weather the stones were ergonomic enough.
One problem I have is the SD card slot failed on the original because SD cards Have A max Operating temperature of 80 to 85 and if you play in 30W or turbo mode the ally goes to 95 and I'd say that's what kills the SD card slot and SD cards.💯
$800 is kinda steep. You REALLY need to need that form factor because i'm almost positive my friend just bought a tuf laptop with a 4070 for under $800. Thats a lot of performance left on the table to just be able to hold it in your hand. Also if your in the house, you can just stream the games through steam so the performance difference to other handhelds is not even a factor at that point.
All the handhelds are so good with bazzite on them. Performance goes through the roof. Rocking a legion go with bazzite with windows on an externall ssd for controller updates and shite.
I'm sticking with my rog ally. It's still so amazing. I dont travel much so I'll always plugged in. Also as a dad with the kids watching trolls on the 80in. I can lay back on the couch playing Call of duty, elden ring, just all the games I love
Coming from the Steamdeck... I love Windows on it. Now I can play any game without having to jump through a million hoops. It's not a console, it's a handheld laptop.
You have windows on a steam deck too?? lets gooo!! windows on steam deck is literally godsent if you know what you are doing, I can play all my games without worrying anything
Yup. When SteamDeck came out there was misguided narrative about these handhelds for a few years. It's a handheld gaming PC, not a console. So it only makes sense to use the best gaming OS that you already use on your gaming desktop PC and that is Windows. Not even SteamOS with Valve's best compatibility efforts can come close. I can appreciate Valve's efforts and obviously competition in this space did great things, but I think some people got a bit carried away with drinking Valve's coolaid. I don't want to be too negative of SD but I don't like SteamOS at all and I also don't' like the fact that by default that device is locked to 1 company's online service (and everyone gives this a pass because Valve...).
Currently own a steam deck oled, and I’m enjoying it a lot. I can’t wait till the steam deck 2 drop and watch everyone run to that and talk how great and powerful that device is lol
I had mine all of 6 hours before it started grinding on the inside. When I returned it to Best Buy they asked if I had it in a hot car for several days because it was hot as a toaster. I’m super disappointed, I LOVED it before it failed. More than the steam deck OLED. But when I took it in they said I was the third THIRD person to return one the same day. I guess Steamdeck is the only product that works for you, even if underpowered? Or just use the touch screen for selection? Either way, not the kind of game I consider playing on the go. We’ll agree to disagree, win 11 is a better experience for me in general, though there are some niggles, I’ll give you, the context menu on win 11 is super dumb and annoying. I sold my Ally for the reason of failing SD card and slot issues. I dont want my device dying on me, let alone killing the memory card i bought for it.
I would still stick with the steam deck. Windows on a handheld is a living hell - is this just me? I had an rog ally, and this was a nightmare. I dont have the best internet and if you dont have it, you really cant do much. Besides, a steam deck is more afordable. ALSO... mine crashed and wouldnt turn on. I went to Asus and they were no help. Valve on the other hand really cares for there community and almost instantly fixes the problem right away. I accidentally dropped my steam deck a month a go, sent it to asus, and they fixed it within just a few days! Also, you are getting a bigger screen on the deck than the rog. I have switched out my graphics card to match the rog ally and it works! WARNING! If you dont want the hassle of doing this - even though it might be easy, for some it isnt, dont do it. Rememeber, this is just my opinion. Have a great day, Shalom
Sucks to hear you had that experience. I got mine in November and besides the pains of running windows (before you adjust to the form factor and optimize settings) its honestly been an amazing experience. Had to optimize settings in games for battery life but honestly it's not the absolute worst getting 1.5-2hrs of game time. Even longer with emulation. At the beginning of this month it suddenly stopped charging and I just walked into best buy where I bought it and they RMA'd it and within 2 weeks it was back good as new with a warranty on the repair work.
ive got both OG and X in all honesty in terms of power or performance is minimal at best. SSD, buy a converter. The 2 only great things its black and better battery. But if using a battery pack like 747 anker i will get 4-5 hours easy out of the OG.
Hmmmm price is still steep, and does anyone know if the SD card reader is still frying? On the other hand battery life is really nice 👍 the second c type plug in is certainly a bonus. Windows is still Windows that's just the world a ocording to Windows.
Windows hating still going on for handhelds? I thought we moved past that, especially when Ally X (and Snapdragon laptops) demonstrated impressive efficiency while running Windows. So turns out that was never the problem to behind with. It was all about hardware configuration and BIOS tweaking. Also what is this "dealing with Windows"? You mean occasioanlly updating it and doing some other Windows things for 5-10 minutes, like we do on our desktop gaming PCs? Complete non-issue, when you consider that Windows gives you access to ALL of your games library and not just some. I also think SteamDeck gets too much credit and love considering it's essentially locked down to 1 company's online service (out of the box, which is how 99% of users use the device). I also don't agree that SteamOS's UI is as big of advantage as some make it out to be. Sure slightly more polished UI is cool, but I use gaming devices for gaming, not for staring at UI.
Most buying handhelds are looking for a ease pick up and play like console gaming, like how steamos is. Windows still known for buggy sleep settings. Proton is almost able to play all games (besides kernel based anticheats) so I think they're getting there, besides having to find which layer works. Don't get me wrong I have no issue with w11 and have my Lego dual booted with bazzite and w11 for the games that don't work on bazzite. You complaining about his opinions is really pointless
I know right they acting like 80% of the world hasn’t already been using windows for the past 20 years lmao at this point it’s pretty clear it’s just a bunch of cope from steam deck users because they can’t afford something better so they nitpick and exasperate little issues the competition has. Everyone that’s had the chance to use both always ends up preferring the ROG ally. For every person that likes steam deck for the ease of use, there’s a guy out there that prefers the ROG ally for having windows and the ability to fine tune settings to get the specific performance they want. When money isn’t an issue the clear winner is the Ally.
Yeah that's pretty much bullshit. Unless they only play steam games exclusively, they still need to work with steam os destktop mode which just pretty much like windows.

I've been considering the ROG, but this is the first I've heard about the SD card slot overheating. How did this come about? Did they actually fix it?
@darthrubik8384 you must've been living under a rock?
@@darthrubik8384 No ythe original ROG Ally has a SD card slot close to a hot spot outside specification which led to it detroying itself and the card inside when used. All they did was offer free warranty replacement for that part that will still burn itself out. And when they marketed the ROG Ally X they just said they mived the port for "saving space" and refused to acknoowledge the original Allys hardware flaw. And they will do it again on this thing if such flaw is present.
@@darthrubik8384 They never fixed it and actually robbed people by inducing or pretending that other parts of the device have been damaged by the User. @@noudockeloen These handhelds aren't for people that already own a steamdeck/legion go/rog ally, it's for new customers. It's not meant as an upgrade for you, but as an entry for those that want to get into handhelds. I don't have any handhelds, but I want to get one. Meanwhile if you don't have a phone at all, you won't choose the iphone 15 over the iphone 16, when both are similar in price.
For $500 I'd MAYBE consider it

@@mrmangbro6842you have no idea how much they make lol, selling tech like that at only 200 profit like you’re insinuating would not even cover the r&d costs
You don't dislike it because you genuinely think it's bad, at this point you dislike it because you're broke and can't afford it. If it was 500$ I'd immediatly buy it, I'm waiting for it to go on sale because for me 300$ more than the original Z1E isn't worth it.
@@gisan2174 I'm waiting a few months for the Rog Ally X to stabilize in my country, so I can buy a 2nd hand rog ally (or maybe get one new if there's a big sale). So far the prices haven't changed, they're still around 400-500$ for 2nd hand. Which is crazy, considering I've seen it go on sale for 500$ like 3 times in the past few months.

This is not worth the extra price hike. This is how the Ally should have been.
All the handhelds are so good with bazzite on them. Performance goes through the roof. Rocking a legion go with bazzite with windows on an externall ssd for controller updates and shite.
Steam Deck OLED best girl
The only thing which I don't like about steam deck and the steam OS, is that I cannot play certain few online games like BF5...
I've bought 2nd handed 2tb steam deck from my friend who is going to save up for the Ally x. I can say that I really love the Deck especially the OS.

I don't know why Microsoft doesn't just relaunch Windows CE and make it for small handheld PCS. I know Windows CE was made off a different software kernel but they can update it with a new software kernel. The Windows CE would be made for small mobile PCS and small electronics like a GPS.
Microsoft isn't smart that's why. Also, ask the true gamers that had great minds didn't work at Microsoft anymore. They're ask replaced with non gamer men in shiny suits and actually hate video games.
Windows CE was a Windows for non-PCs. It was incompatible to Windows. Do you really want to cripple those handhelds?
@@fairphoneuser9009 Microsoft can revamp Windows CE for portable devices. I know Windows CE was completely incompatible with Windows. Because most GPS units used Windows CE as their operating systems and if the GPS has life time map updates you could connect the GPS up to the computer to update the maps. I know you needed the software to update the maps but before you would connect the GPS Windows would see it as a storage device. If it was completely incompatible it would do like an Apple device and say this device is not compatible with a Windows device.
@@KenSch2020 It just didn't run "regular" Windows software. That's the point where it was completely incompatible with Windows...
@@fairphoneuser9009 I know it wasn't like regular Windows that why I said revamp Windows CE to make it for mobile device that uses controller buttons and touch screen. The original Windows CE was a super cut down version of Windows that really didn't offer drivers just a basic operating system that was not DOS. In terms of just being simple to put on a mobile device like GPS. I know it may seem like I am promoting Windows CE as a fix all. I am really saying just relaunch Windows CE as a Windows for handheld computers and mobile devices that has those type of controls. Personally in my life I have only seen one desktop PC that had Windows CE installed on it. Don't know why but it was at a Firestone tire place. So I knew when I purchased a GPS with Windows CE is was a basic operating system.

Is it worth it? Yes, of course. For the games I play, there are no limitations. Game Pass saves me a lot of money since I don't need to buy games at full price, and I still get the free games from Epic. Plus, I can play all my games from Steam at 1080p. Having extra power is better than limiting myself to 15 watts. You don't buy an Ally to play games at 15 watts; you buy it for the extra power and higher resolution.
What i find interesting is there isnt much talk about windows jank on this device. Its almost like slapping a bigger battery some how fixed the problem
Can say from switching the OS on my ROG Ally (original) from Windows to a SteamOS-alike (Bazzite OS), it has made it so much better and exactly what I wanted for an upgraded Steam Deck. Windows on a handheld is absolutely horrific
Can you play windows games on Bazzite?
Just bought this and listed my Z1E for sale. The upgrades are just too good, double battery life, NVME m.2, 2 USB C ports, Increased RAM, moved SD card slot to prevent overheating of the slot, and also added in joysticks that feel much smoother than the z1e.
Don't understand the Windows 11 hate. Works great for me, even on Ally. Very few issues. I have a M3 MacBook Pro and a Threadripper work station and an HTCPC, I use them seamlessly next to each other. I like having full access to a windows box on my Ally, there area ton of games that don't play, or play right on steamdeck.
Because “iTs nOt WiNdOwS 10” basically. Been using w11 since it came out and I’ve yet to have a single issue out of it.
same, Win11 is okay, imo its slightly worse than 10 but not by much. For a handheld though its complete ass, especially a handheld without a trackpad
@@Dovarcraft right click the right stick, it turns into a cursor. I honestly have no problems with it. On of my friends brings full foldable keyboard and mouse with his to use as a full box. @@SterlingSanders disagree about Win11 being better, I prefer how 10 looked and that the context menu required less clicks to get to where i want to go, just as two examples. And I find that using sticks as a mouse feels really bad and carrying extra gear kinda defeats the purpose imo. And as someone that plays Warcraft 3, Starcraft 2, Civ, Rock Raider, System Shock Remake, HotS, and other games that pretty much require a mouse, i find that i really need at least one trackpad.
@@Dovarcraft Your problems are more with the types of games you play than game form factors. RTS’s on a handheld, or any controller apparatus will be a diminished experience. You’re going to run into that problem with all the ones in the market, considering none of them were made for playing with a controller.
No need to navigate a menu inside a menu, and remove the menus ability to interact with the keyboard for shortcut actions through typing after activating the menu. I just reverted it back to the old one, so haven’t delt with that for a long time.
Windows on a handheld is okay as long as the handheld has a trackpad like the Legion Go
ive got both OG and X in all honesty in terms of power or performance is minimal at best. SSD, buy a converter. The 2 only great things its black and better battery. But if using a battery pack like 747 anker i will get 4-5 hours easy out of the OG.

Very true. Not being totally true
Hmmmm price is still steep, and does anyone know if the SD card reader is still frying? On the other hand battery life is really nice 👍 the second c type plug in is certainly a bonus. Windows is still Windows that's just the world a ocording to Windows.
i have it and regret it now. im not done installing all my games yet.. but i feel the games i play most make it go dead fast
Bro it’s just a pile on tbh. They hear one person say something and they all hop on it
I know right they acting like 80% of the world hasn’t already been using windows for the past 20 years lmao at this point it’s pretty clear it’s just a bunch of cope from steam deck users because they can’t afford something better so they nitpick and exasperate little issues the competition has.
