  • In the Netherlands there was the WA: de Weerbaarheidsafdeling (Resilience Department) - the paramilitary wing of the National Socialist Movement (Nationaal-Socialistische Beweging; NSB) founded by Anton Mussert. The WA men were the Dutch blackshirts who were the Dutch equivalent of the German SA (Sturmabteilung).

Always interesting video`s professor. I visited the Netherlands in 2015, one of my great uncles was severely wounded there fighting to liberate The Netherlands. The Dutch never forget the Canadians, people were telling us the best restaurants to visit. Buying us beers because we were Canadians. Everyone was so kind. I will never forget them. I think it's how you define Polish. If you define it as either a citizen of the Second Polish Republic or someone born within its borders then yes there were definitely 'Poles' in the SS. If you were to define Pole either ethnically or linguistically then probably not. As regarding Poles in the Heer, the Polish formations in First Canadian Army were nearly always at full strength as right after a battle they would scour the POW cages for Poles. Something like a 90% success rate in recruiting. I haven't read anything on Polish formations in 8th Army doing the same.

For a Dutch person to say "this is the first time I've said anything good about the Communists tells me you have yet to talk about Anton Pannekoek. Anton Pannekoek was both a leading astronomer at Amsterdam University but also a leading Marxist and socialist of early 20th century "council communism" a version of Marxist revolutionary socialism that retains its democratic commitments and thus is/was an ardent opponent of so-called "Leninism" with its fetishism of the party, supplanting the democracy of the workers with the substitution of the party of putatively professional revolutionaries. This might have been necessary in backwards Russia where even literacy rates were appallingly low, but in W. Europe at that time, and now in probably 1/3rd or even 1/2 of the planet, literacy, education, and organization are sufficiently developed that the workers themselves do NOT need a substitute party to lead them into socialism, but instead, should work in their own party, in their own union, in their own social movement and their own workplace councils to advance the project of collective, democratic, transparent planning of the economy for use in the intesests of the majority (the working class) and against the interests of the parasites that now control us (the owners of net financial assets that produce incomes to their owners, even as those owners contribute zero useful labor to the production of the goods/services that make our lives what they are.
The wiki on Pannekoek is decent: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antonie_Pannekoek

Although the dutch suffered terribly at the end of the war over a hundred thousand dutch jews were murdered by the nazis and 120000 starved to death in the hunger winter of 44-45. Leon degrel the Walloon and fascist led his legion to the east and the Belgian people didn't suffer the privations of the dutch. Incidentally senior Labour members the mi!libands Dave and ed are the grandchildren of Belgian jews who had to flee from the nazis. One was the leader of the main English opposition party.

Communists believe in equality so when one group is targetted they resist. At least, that's what happened then in the Netherlands. But it really doesn't matter what I say, does it?

@@HistoryHustle I like your videos and I'm sure that you're aware that you have to walk a tight rope to make videos about WW2 on RUclips - while still being honest, but you cannot deny the fact that Jews had leading roles in the communist movement during that period in Europe..
