I know it's kind of just a single note to the character but G.I. Robot going on about wanting to fight nazis is very funny to me. Just a charming robo guy.
Yeah I like that they’re actually making him a robot. Every time a robot is part of the main characters they speak as if their programming is “be a quirky human”
I'm really enjoying the show so far. Episode 1 was pretty good, but Episode 2 was great! That backstory of the Bride really got things rolling for me. I'm liking Grillo as Flag Sr., too - not as stereotypically gruff as I expected, which is good. Now I'm curious to see G.I. Robot and Weasel's backstories.
Really? I honestly saw her backstory laughed at how garbage it was then stopped watching the show I’ve never seen something so garbage before animation wise at least truly awful
The DCU continuity is basically James Gunn’s DCEU’s work minus the Justice League cameo at the end of Peacemaker. Makes it easier to follow when you look at it from that perspective since his work was already disconnected to begin with.
@@ozby11I believe he said that’s loose canon just like the stuff he made himself. So if it contradicts that aspect isn’t canon but if it doesn’t it counts
According to James Gunn, if an event is mentioned in the DCU, it’s considered canon. So essentially, The Suicide Squad (2021) and Peacemaker Season 1 (2022) happened in this universe, likely in a very similar way, though there may be a few changes or differences. But everything else, such as the Justice League related content did not happen, naturally we'll be seeing new versions of all those characters in the DCU with new history, Superman being the perfect example. The events of Man of Steel (2013), including Superman revealing himself to the world for the first time, Zod’s arrival, and the Black Zero Event that nearly destroyed Metropolis and claimed thousands of lives, never happened in the new DCU. Similarly, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021), and their respective individual films, such as Wonder Woman (2017), are no longer part of the new continuity. We’ll also be getting a fresh version of Metropolis, hopefully with a more Art Deco and retro-futuristic aesthetic, as the DCEU never truly did Metropolis justice. Additionally, it’s likely that Gotham and Metropolis will no longer be located right next to each other across the bay, as they were in the DCEU. As for Superman, it’s safe to assume he’ll already be active during this time. Superman: (2025) isn’t an origin film, so while he might still be relatively new to the world, he could have been operating as far back as the events of Creature Commandos. For me, it doesn't matter too much that Gunn is pulling from only his own work, since those films felt so disconnected from the DCEU, embracing a more comic book feel in their tone, art direction, and costume design. They felt like the complete opposite of what Zack Snyder was building with his darker, grittier take on the DC universe. Meanwhile, Gunn is over here introducing Starro the Conqueror, who faces off against a colorful squad of villains who look like they're pulled straight from the comics. Though Zack Snyder, of course, pulled heavily from the comics as well, he simply applied his own style to it. We had Parademons, Steppenwolf, Darkseid, off-brand Doomsday, etc. So, he pulled from the more fantastical, sci-fi elements too but layered a more New 52 style over them. Meanwhile, Gunn embraces the more Grant Morrison-inspired New 52 stories, which brought DC closer to its classic counterparts by removing some of the edge and darkness but still felt modern and unique. Grant Morrison's work on the New 52 Superman is a perfect example.
CREATURE COMMANDOS is like issue #0 of the DCU. This is more a spin-off of his THE SUICIDE SQUAD than a DCU entry, given that he was doing it BEFORE he became DCU co-head.
The great thing about James Gunn's writing is that even when the jokes don't land, it still doesnt take you out because it doesnt go against what the character would normally say anyways. I find like 40% of the jokes in Guardians funny but it's still one of the best marvel movies by far.
Well I heard a rumor that this show is being worked on by the people who did the promo for invincible and they've just been giving a lot of time to work on the show since this was being made pre James Gunn DC takeover
You guys talked about the promo of Invincible, which is generally better quality, well that is not done by the same studio that makes the main Invincible episodes... but coincidentally is the studio making Creature Commandos, Aka Bobbypills (mostly known as "that one cartoon p*rn studio").
I’m excited. I like the action. I think it’s really well animated and the art direction is good for the most part. The fight between the bride and Circe was really cool
1) FLASH showed that a MULTIVERSE exists. James Gunn’s DCU exists, alongside #SnyderVerse and #DCEU. WATCHMEN and #ArrowVerse exist in there as well, among OTHER things. 2) THE SUICIDE SQUAD is partially canon. 3) PEACEMAKER is like 95% canon. 4) BLUE BEETLE seems like it SEEMS like it was canon. At least the actor will STILL play Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle. However, we won’t be seeing Jaime until Ted Kord is introduced by Gunn or whatever.
I think it was good! But I can see why people won't like this, excessive hornyness isn't always a bad thing if it services a story; but there was a LOT for just two episodes; and ye I'm sure a lot of the 'gunn jokes' wont land for everyone. Still looking forward to see where this goes!
The showrunner for this, who put the animated Gunn in the credits, was also the showrunner for the Harley Quinn animated show, which also included an animated version of Gunn... which is weird. Is this guy like a major suck up? No shade on Gunn because he is getting older, but the animated version looks a little more flattering.
@Michael_Ian_Blackface Not sure. In the Harley Quinn show they used plenty of real life celebrities so that seems like a coincidence. But it could be they are a suck up, maybe they just like breaking the 4th wall who knows
Just commenting to mention David Harbour also played Frankenstein’s monster and Dr. Frankenstein in the fantastic Netflix thing: Frankenstein’s Monster’s Monster, Frankenstein
It's okay to just say the scene between the bride and Dr. Frankenstein was entirely unnecessary and should have just been tastefully implied. The moment the bride showed interest in him when they fell together was all they needed. Also, it was justifiable as some weird Freudian perspective. They didn't even need to say he was sleeping with her, could have left it at "shes attracted to him and Frankenstein kills him because of it ." Instead, they degrade the entire sequence and make it significantly less sophisticated by including some degenerate scene. Stop treating audiences like we can't put two and two together. There are some things that even in an animated series don't need to be shown, and that's one of them.
I disagree. I like how Gunn doesn't shy away from sex and violence. It's strange to me how people are so puritanical about sex in animation, but don't care about seeing blood and guts.
@BusterBarnes Right. In fact, he said he has no idea why Harcourt and Economos would have anything to do with recruiting for the JSA in that post credits scene.

James Gunn is probably just going to get fired. They hired him to make billion dollar movies about Superman and Batman, and instead he's making cartoons about Frankenstein. This isn't going to last long.
I mean there is a Superman movie coming out. DC's brand has been pretty scuffed by lots of mixed releases, and Marvel is looking rough for the same reason. I'm willing to bet they wouldn't have signed him on if they didn't know it was going to be Quality over Quantity.
The head of WB Animation asked Gunn to make this show before he even got the job as the head of DC Studios. It was already in the works as an animated sequel spinoff to TSS and Peacemaker.
I know it's kind of just a single note to the character but G.I. Robot going on about wanting to fight nazis is very funny to me. Just a charming robo guy.
He's gonna go to a pride boys march I bet xD
Yeah I like that they’re actually making him a robot. Every time a robot is part of the main characters they speak as if their programming is “be a quirky human”
Him identifying the jenga tower as a swastica made me laugh out loud
His voice is also really charming lol
I guess Frank Grillo is 14 years older than Joel Kinnerman. So it’s not as much of a stretch, since he states he had his son at 18
