What bugs me most is the *explicit judgement* & vilification of Coach Kiffin by accredited accounts immediately after hearing this short clip with little exposition or thought. The judgement & assumptions made en masse may help explain why so many more people are afraid to speak, act, or even show up like in this case for fear of being absolutely bombarded with hate & anger, *all while pointing the finger at someone else.* It feels like more often we'd rather make someone the bad guy rather than try to *understand* anyone outright. What needs to be done is to find out what this young man did during his time away. Where did he go? Did he go to classes? Or did he just go into his room and play video games on his Xbox the whole time? What did this young man do to address his mental health? He either made it worse by his actions or he addressed the issue and tried to "work" on it? Did he go to a counselor/psychologist during this time to seek help? What did he do?
I encountered a similar situation a couple of years ago when a team member no-showed us for weeks (he reached out to me once for assistance, I replied and got no response) and the team member in question got fired. If I was going to be away for multiple days at a time, I would make it a point to tell someone what is going on and provide a daily update. If he did this in the military (Navy vet here), he would be confined to the ship/base for a period of time as determined by his CO or get sent to court martial. Some companies consider that if you were gone for three days with no explanation, then you effectively quit your job.
No he wouldn't, as soon as he mentioned depression or mental health, they would have temporarily assigned him to the shore Medical ward. Happened to me, CVN 65 Enterprise.
Kiffin’s commment “what world are you living in” is what millions of young American’s need to hear. Lacking the courage and mental toughness to suck it up and do what you’ve got to do to succeed is NOT an acceptable excuse in the real world. The kid needs to transfer to another team with a new attitude. Everyone deserves a second chance once they’ve been awakened to reality.
I heard this awhile back. My 1st thought was the beginning and rest of the conversation before what we have, has not been heard either. Not that it is needed, because when players start to make the rules, a program is done. At minimum you respond when you are contacted by your employers, or coaches of the university who is providing you with something the majority of high school players dream of, elite coaching and training, practicing against the best, paid degree, food, housing, stipends, NIL, etc. Yeah, you BETTER respond ASAP. And yeah, this is all about getting a SETTLEMENT.
It’s called a Gen-Z problem. They think that you’re on their time, and if the task requires more effort than they are willing to give, they quit, don’t show up, or go cry about it! My new favorite coach!
You right Josh! It’s a sad situation… mental health or not you can’t “ghost” responsibility. Actually, the program can assist if given a chance. He didn’t allow the organization the opportunity to help. 😢
People who are upset at Kiffin for cursing at the player cant be up in arms about PAYING the players then just say they are just kids. He had no problem taking the money and taking the free ride to a SEC School. He doesnt have to be great or anything, Kiffin is literally asking for the BARE MINIMUM out of this young man. Just show up to practice and meetings. Hell, im a father of a 8 year old boy and would never let him quit or take a "break" because its hard for 2 weeks, let alone a 21yr old. You make a commitment, you keep it. Especially when they are also getting paid. Some of these people just need to grow up.
Being kicked off a team is disappointing, but you know what never disappoints? The great items and prices at Academy Sports and Outdoors, the right stuff the right price
The fact he chose not to transfer (an indication of dedication to the team), and then didn’t show up for weeks, ONLY TO RECORD Kiffin chewing his ass and kicking him off the team. Seems like a larger plot than what it’s likely to be
Yeah - that would be a lot better than cussing the kid out. Let me go, but do it with love and compassion, cuz if everyone piling on is wrong, it could be the end of someone’s life and all the hot takes in the world don’t justify the loss of a young man’s life.
Wow...my respect for this man just increased 10x. In the past I've accused him of being anti-Kiffin, anti-Ole Miss, but Josh just revealed he's willing to call a spade a spade and call BS on BS. Man I needed that.
First time listener and boy, I like you already! Thank you for your honest opinion on this crazy circus show. You made this much more understandable. Hotty Toddy!!
Very nice analysis of the issue. This an example of a person that wants to be treated like an adult that does not want to act like an adult. Hard lesson to learn, but a good one to learn early in life.
That my friend is right on...nice way of getting the true meaning across without Judgment..or prejudice...dude used the system to his advantage..coach didn't bite the bait....great commentary josh..!!!
I’m not an Ole Miss fan but I am a fan of Lane Kiffin. I’m proud of his maturity in handling the situation. Like him or hate him, he’s good for college football.
Lane is completely right! No one feels like they have to follow the rules anymore-heck, there ARE no rules ! This is the norm in every aspect of life now.
I have to, and have, informed my employers about my mental health. I can't NOT show up to work or not explain, even in my bipolar lows. I can’t tell my boss I'm not ready to talk. My boss is not entitled to give me time to be ready. This young adult would do well to learn that now before the real world comes for him.
Do you take FMLA when you have your moments? FMLA does quite a bit to help us who struggle with things. Employers are more patient now (depending on the industry) if one has a documented history of it. of course employers need to have a standard to hold people by or everyone would do that, but it is now being seen like other midical issues, and employers can NOT willy-nilly fire people because of their medical issue.(without opening themselves up to issues with a lawsuit or government complaints)
@@inconnu4961 , I have to call my employer and my FMLA advocate and let them know of my episode. I can’t simply not show up or not communicate it. And if these steps are not taken by me, my employer can willy-nilly fire me. It takes monumental effort on my part, but I do it. And then I ignore everyone and everything else in life. There are requirements on both sides to protect both employees and employers. This is why a player who has signed papers to play for a team can’t just say he's not ready to talk, ghost his responsibilities, and expect to keep his roster spot. If he couldn't talk, his doctor, therapist, or specialist should have spoken for him in written form as mine did. When my employer was informed, he referred me to both FMLA and short-term disability.
Had this gone to court without this audio is when our wonderful system of law more than likely would take the lawsuit and somehow twist reality around and awarded a big settlement and chastised the University. I am not a fan of Lane Kiffen nor the University, but this entire issue should be over.
These players have been given everything they want. Pay, unlimited transfer ability, get to sit out games if they want to, free school, free meals, free bed. Everything. And yet they’re still going to find an excuse to be soft and not go work. And record a coach without his knowledge. Wtf?? So sick of this soft azz culture of athletes we now have.
As someone with severe depression and anxiety, I have so much respect for Lane now seeing that he isn’t willing to let people use mental health as a shield. There is no excuse for not even communicating with the coach. Even if he was struggling with mental health, shirking responsibilities and refusing to let others help makes you look terrible, as it should. If he even just made an effort to talk to the coach and explain what’s going on, this likely would have been very different. Hell of a lot of respect for you too Josh. You called that player out on it while staying very respectful to the reality of mental health problems.
this is bullshit!!!!! then you would know how differently people can handle these situations or how hard it can be to even acknowledge to yourself let along to others. i hope others were far more supporting in your scenario and that you are now doing well, but this was a stupid ass comment.
As an employee all I hear is that the kid had what equates to "No call, No show" 14 times. That gets you fired No matter your excuse

Everyone deserves a second chance once they’ve been awakened to reality.
um this "kid" is going to become a multi millionaire from this situation and a judge will tell Lane he was wrong.
...just NOT on my team.
@@jfloyo11how?
No one will take this kid. Too much liability
@@runyunhyde4373 Take him where??? he is going to become a multi millionaire after a court sides with him or they settle.
Change ur name to great take pate. Ppl are so soft. He thought lane would fly off the rails but he didn't
Perfect take on this situation ... more will come around the country similar to this, but you nailed it. NOICE!
Anyone who’s ever been in the military will tell you that’s the nicest ass chewing they’ve ever heard
"Sketch as ALL get out!" [PERFECTLY SAID] 💥
Michigan doing everything to get out of the spotlight 😂🤣
Leaking stories as misdirection to avoid punishment 😅
You right Josh! It’s a sad situation… mental health or not you can’t “ghost” responsibility. Actually, the program can assist if given a chance. He didn’t allow the organization the opportunity to help. 😢
Lane is a man! ...Lane was 100% in the right.
Never comment bfor BUT U NAILED IT!!!
Josh Fukin Pate. Respect!
To be fair…Ole Miss has a hard time knowing what it’s mascot is. Rebel? Land shark? Black bear?
Being kicked off a team is disappointing, but you know what never disappoints? The great items and prices at Academy Sports and Outdoors, the right stuff the right price
We'll over price everything 40% and give you 25% off.
Spot. On.
Thanks, JP.
Bless Lane's heart
When thousands of kids go through Lane Kiffins teams, year over year, and he doesn’t get sued, you know the problem is with the player.
Kudos to Lane on handling the situation well
I agree with what he said but I can’t say he handled it well. I feel like the way he handled it might hurt with his recruiting
@@LowlightTonightI doubt it
@@LowlightTonightno I agree. We don’t know what he was going through mentally. Still, should’ve communicated that better to the coach
@@jtsnow4331 I feel like he wouldn’t have taken this type of tone if that were his star QB or that judkins kid he has at runningback
Absolutely agree, Josh! Lane Kiffin just earned my respect.
The fact he chose not to transfer (an indication of dedication to the team), and then didn’t show up for weeks, ONLY TO RECORD Kiffin chewing his ass and kicking him off the team. Seems like a larger plot than what it’s likely to be
I wouldn't touch this player after doing that.
Yeah - that would be a lot better than cussing the kid out. Let me go, but do it with love and compassion, cuz if everyone piling on is wrong, it could be the end of someone’s life and all the hot takes in the world don’t justify the loss of a young man’s life.
Accountabillity is a bad word in 2023
Can't imagine trying to coach some of these punks!
How about trying to coach some of these punks with a pocket full of money! That’ll be next..
I’m a Mississippi State guy and I respect Kiff for this.
Listening to this, I wonder about the details behind how Kirby handled Arik Gilbert in his 1st year at UGA.
I never liked Lane Kiffin...till now.
You said all that needed said sir. Agree.
I can tell you that every coach in America talks this way .....
Most Ole Miss fans cant tell you what the mascot is. Because we basically dont have one. Offically, its a black bear. Unofficially, its a landshark.
As far as I’m concerned, it’s the same one as when Archie was there, period!
Wow...my respect for this man just increased 10x. In the past I've accused him of being anti-Kiffin, anti-Ole Miss, but Josh just revealed he's willing to call a spade a spade and call BS on BS. Man I needed that.
I hope they don’t pay him a cent. He can go be a problem at a juco somewhere.
See ya, toxic people need to be weeded out.
Thank the Lord you have taken the time to consider this in the proper nuanced fashion. These were my thoughts immediately when I heard the clip.
That my friend is right on...nice way of getting the true meaning across without
Judgment..or prejudice...dude used the system to his advantage..coach didn't bite the bait....great commentary josh..!!!
Lane earns a gold star. So does Pate. Well done.
I’m not an Ole Miss fan but I am a fan of Lane Kiffin. I’m proud of his maturity in handling the situation. Like him or hate him, he’s good for college football.
Never thought id be on the side of joey freshwater but here we are 2023 is wild
Tosh 2.0, funniest sh*t I’ve ever seen in my life!
Go Dawgs! I respect how Kiffin confronted this. Our whole country needs mental health treatment.
Lane is completely right! No one feels like they have to follow the rules anymore-heck, there ARE no rules ! This is the norm in every aspect of life now.
Let's see how his mental health is when he realizes his best future involves slinging fries at a local fast food restaurant.
Probably the closest thing to a 'fatherly conversation' that kid has heard in his life.
9:36 "couldn't tell you the mascot of the school..." well that's a fair challenge with Ole Miss
If the kid really had a mental health problem, he should have gone to a counselor which I'd bet my last dollar is available at the University.
I’m a LSU fan so before I heard the audio, I was ready to shit on Lane Kiffin. After hearing the audio I’m shocked Lane Kiffin didn’t say worst things
Good on Lane. To many people now a days claim mental health but use it to benefit themselves rather than seek help
Great take. Perfect response. Well said.
You nailed it Josh! This guy was just posturing for money. He sure wasn't getting any from football. I'd have been frustrated with this guy too!
What did Kiffen do wrong? Be a player or quit. You can’t be on the team part time at your leisure.
Good way to cure depression. Taking responsibility for yourself. Hearing the truth, taking it to heart, and changing. A kick in the ass
Even as a VFL, I can respect Lane for how he handled this situation. 100% behind Kiffin here.
Good for Lane!
