litany of reasons it's more entertaining, but a fair number of them are more subjective things which are personal. ultimately, IndyCar runs ovals...and oval racing can produce exciting racing if the cars can compete with one another.
It's a spec series rather than a formula series, that means for the most part everyone is driving the same car. That means driver talent has much more of an effect in IndyCar than Formula 1 (not that Formula 1 is talentless or anything--they are some of the best drivers in the world). But IndyCar is much more competitive. For some, the engineering battles between F1 teams is far more exciting, and for others the battles on the track are far more exciting. There's a lot of excitement in both, but I prefer the IndyCar model.
210-220 mph, wheel-to-wheel running. Once you get past the first couple turns, F1 spreads out too much. These guys stay right under each other's wings at incredible speeds, and incredible risks. F1 cars are awesome, and the most advanced cars in the world (outside of Formula E); but the best tech gets its real test in Indycar.
KINGDOM well.... There's the passing, the higher speeds, the quality of competition, generally speaking there's no team orders(which is shameful, and a show of weakness if you ask many) the street courses are more like real world conditions, Ovals, similar body kits places skill over manufacturer dollars, history is equally as rich as f1, the Indy 500, Penske, Ganassi, Andretti, American drivers... You may need to get a notebook and start taking some notes...
That's one of the most exciting non-Indy finishes I've seen in a long time. Wow. What a race!

Why is IndyCar better than F1?
