So as far as the sunfish goes you can only catch certain fish as your first fish because you can’t “lose” the fish. If when you get a hit you can’t catch the fish it randomly chose it will default to the sunfish because it has ID of 1 or something like that. I’m sure I messed up explaining exactly what happens but that’s why you got the sunfish. You caught something that you weren’t able to catch
Just very recently I thought about how I hated that every single perfection run always required buying massive amounts of wood in year 1 to feed the tea sapling machine. As a result I theorycrafted how little I would actually have to buy. So this is just perfect because I can watch someone else suffering instead of me.^^
If you end up getting the catalog from Pierre's, you can get fish tanks of various sizes from it Edit: As others have stated, Caroline is pretty good to friend early on. The tea saplings are durable and make great fences!
Your outfit is totally fine. Denim overalls are very durable and a long linen shirt would be light enough to not sweat, but keep the sunburn away. The real question is, are there washing mashines? And I love the "not throwing anything away" part of the challenge. I have not seen that before.
Given the state of my cabin, I highly doubt I have a washing machine. RIP to my arms honestly, handwashing your outfits after a long day of farm cleaning sounds horrid. I thought it only made sense tbh. If I'm trying to spend as little as possible, obviously I should keep, use, or recycling everything too.

Nice series. Love the idea and I have tried playing like this a few times. I think the first fish you catch is almost always a sunfish which is why the river fish came out of the sea. Also crows eat stuff when you have 16 or more crops planted and no scarecrow (farm crops, not counting seasonal forage seeds). So I just plant the 15 parsnips until I can make a scarecrow. After making the first scarecrow, I plant the mixed seeds and craft some of the forage into the seasonal seeds and plant them when I can. It gives more foraging XP and also is a decent use of my early game energy apart from fishing and clearing the farm.

Hi Clover! I think the first fish that you get is always a sunfish, regardless of season or location, as long as it is sunny. You made me want to play Stardew Valley again! Cause 500hrs+ was not enough 😭
No, but sunfish is the default fish if you would fish up for example trash. BlaDe did a great explanation of that one. You can basically fish up quite a lot of simple other fish as first fish, but sunfish has a very high probability due to replacing items that are invalid as first catch (like seaweed, green algae, any kind of trash...). However there is a way to actually catch the legend as very first fish - you just have to get your fishing skill up to 10 without fishing or using crab pots.
When you were fretting over the lack of space, it reminded me that you can eat sap! It makes your character look like they’ll throw up, but it’s a valid way of making inventory space!
Dragontooth Cutlass. Swords feel the best to me and the Cutlass has actually a higher average damage per hit than even the Infinity Blade (due to extra crit). Damage per hit is more important than damage per second because nasty enemies (serpents, mostly) limit the hits they can take per second. Yet when you got a bunch of enemies (say, a herd of mummies), it has a lot higher DPS than hammers get without the exploit.
I know you don't want to buy a fishing rod, but what about the higher class of fishing rod that you can make the bait and bobbers yourself? Just asking, since you might need it to catch some of the harder fish.
I'm thinking about it.
