So guys I just got an email from the people at RallySimFans! They're happy that so many of you are interested in getting their mod for RBR but their servers are unable to handle the current amount of traffic (hence a lot of people having issues with downloads) Be patient and perhaps wait a couple of days if you're interested. It's definitely worth the wait!
my father rolled his trabant when he was younger, his friend helped him to turn it back around than they smoked for 5min and continued with their journey
Fun fact about that particular trabant you drove here: It was raced by Barna Köváry in hungary back than, and the codriver had a button at his feet to spray water to the rear wheels making it easier to go sideways. Barna never really raced for time, he just putted up a great show :) And rolled that thing countless times :D
This is the type of inspiration we all need to participate in rally irl haha. I'd be down to be my local show off on the tracks if I wasn't such a potato half the time.
couple years ago, that Trabant raced in the national rally championship in Hungary. The driver was a legend for two things, driving it and crashing it at least once every race
I really hope Richard is looking down and smiling on what is continuing to be done on the game that carries his name. In my eyes it's the greatest tribute rally fans could have ever given him and I'm glad the Burns name lives on as such a giant in the sim world
As far as modern WRC is concerned. That period between 2005 and 2007 was a dark time. Had three deaths, one related to a crash. (Michael Park, Richard Burns and Colin McRae). Hope he is too.
I am BartosM97 from Hungarian plugin developer. We didn't expect that much interest. Be patient, I hope our servers can stand it this hard work... so, please slow down! 😀 And we very very thanks too much for share our link, honorable to us!
Dear Jimmy, as part of the RBR community from the very beginning, I want to say a big thank you for your credits and appreciation for the RBR modders and for this wonderful game. Actually the RBR vanilla version was never easy for modders. Figuring out how to integrate new tracks required a lot of reverse engineering work. The fact that there are so many tracks and cars today is a result of the passion of the people behind it. I'm probably not the only one who wants you to know that your words mean a lot to us. Best regards
Thanks for your contribution as modders, the base game was great for it's time but your collective work has made RBR immortal. You will never be in the history books but your work has put a smile on the face of thousands worldwide. Massive respect due 👍
Little Trivia: The Trabant was produced by the VEB Sachsenring in Zwickau. That's essentially the post war remains of Horch Automobile and Auto Union. So this Trabant is actually a weird half brother of an Audi RS6.
Really awesome to see you enjoying this Jimmer, I got into competing with this mod through a slightly different plugin a few months ago and while I crash something fierce it's incredible fun and a unique experience amongst rally games - I hope you'll do more of this because there is an absolutely thriving and extremely loyal community who would love to welcome new drivers to play alongside and compete with
I was finally able to download it this morning and I'm just blown away. Last time I was playing Rbr, modders were still long way from this. I cannot stop driving Skoda 130 LR trough Czech stages ❤️ Legendary mod
If you get into RBR and the rallysimfans (HU plugin) you will love it. You have to realize that it may take more time than a sim like DR2 to setup and get going however. If you want to be competitive you will need to invest in writing your own pacenotes (not that hard) and learning the car and how to set it up. But RBR rewards like no other! There is a learning curve, but its completely worth it if you like rallying!
I love this sim. When it was released, as a sim "veteran" (GP series, GPL, NR2002) I naturally skipped the Rally School and started a rally straight away. After the first few corners (and accidents...) I humbly went back to the menu and dutifully completed the Rally School.
There's something about this game that's just magical. I play all kind of Sim racing games, but when in turn on RBR I just can't believe how good this game is.... The stage design is out off this world... If you didn't play it yet you know what you should do tomorrow :}
Agreed, even vanilla stages are extremely good. This game just puts a smile on you whenever you play, such a legendary game. Even the graphics have aged well, it's very natural and pleasing for the eye, not sure how to describe it but it looks better than many new games in some ways.
Jimmer, dude, you're a legend. So proud of you and can't wait to see what is yet to come. You are well on track to one day be the new Clarkson, May or Hammond. At least from this Canucks point of view. Keep it up! NEVER GIVE UP!!

I could watch an entire channel of Jimmy exploring this modded community content for RBR. All the cars, all the stages, all the audio work for each car. I only have the original game on PS2 and it remains the most difficult console game I've ever played. My sincerest thanks to all the RBR community for the investment in this sim to bring it to where it is now. It's staggering.
Jimmy’s video will be very important for the future of RBR community, it will be talked about again, desired, adored, discussed and above all it might be interesting for the games industry to look at this as a reference to be followed, to realize that this kind of realism remains fundamental and put the Arcade of masses a little aside. We hope so!
Arcade masses had been shafted more than the semi sim and sim games tbh. NFS games gone down the shitter for the past several years. The last Wipeout is literally nostalgia wankfest. F-Zero is still forgotten. PGR is gone along with Bizzare's closure. Any Genki and SEGA arcade games are untouched for years. At least semi sim and sim masses got some pretty good current releases like GT, Assetto Corsa (+Competizione), rFactor 2, BeamNG, as well as countless mods for older games like RBR, GPL, and GP4, while arcade fans only got like what, the mediocre NFS Heat and frankly horrible The Crew 2. Only FH4 is somewhat decent, while Wreckfest is a good FlatOut successor. I'm stuck replaying SCUD Race for eternity since they decided that arcade means that they have to cater to babies ramming each other.
11:20 you know say what you want the scenery is so realistic. It's not too high rest andthere is not a lot of lighting and reflection effects but the plants and the way they are on t he side of the road and their density is so realistic. It just looks so natural
RBR and Skyrim (plus a Jim Sterling vid demythifying PC maintenance) are what convinced me to jump ship to PC. With no experience, I spent 1 and a half days getting the community version running on Win7 and because of the frustration migraine, dove in on the 3rd day. I played a few stages but being Aussie, Australia was calling and taking the advice of vets, I just did my best to keep the car on the road, rather than aim for fast times. But I got to the Mineshaft stage and reached a certain incline and thought, "I should be safe to go pedal to metal here".... I was as immersed as I could be in a game at this point, super concentrated until I reached the top and preceded to launch into the air like fucking Evel Knievel and my senses screamed "Oh, so this is how I die". Heartrate through the roof until I realised right before landing that it was JUST a game and with nervous relief, I laughed my ass off as I watched the car get completely totalled! After witnessing my not really "near death experience" I fell in love, barely played anything other than RBR for the first 6 months. RBR is STILL the king imo and I thank Vishnu, Richard Burns was born. R.I.P you beautiful bastard, your legacy lives on in this teenaged game
The sound of that super straight cut gears are amazing. It even includes a nice solid thunk for the dog reengagement.. plus you can hear the car rattle around.
And here I am, an hour ago I've installed RBR, was amazed by it after my first stage. Searched up youtube, and here you are, starting with the same car as I did. Good choice.
There is a very cool new stage that came out recently called "Vargassence". It's basically a close representation or the Vargasen stage. You'll love it.
Hey Jimmy: the thing about trabants is, that theyre not build anymore since almost 30years now. but still people reace the chassies in kinda mud/dirt arena races. In my hometown in germany it's called Stock Car Rennen - but nothing like american stock cars if ur interestet look up "trabant rennen" or "trabi rennen" as that car is called by everyone from former eastern germany
Actually, “Capo di Feno” is based on Corsica, french island, one of the notorious stages of the Rally of 10000 corners, not gonna lie, happy to see that RB modders included these 😉
So funny to see you driving the Trabant. My father was actually driving one of those things in the GDR Rallye Championchip and won some awesome prices like carpets and sausages :D
9:25 I actually got an idea for a simple sim race league from that and it goes like this: There's X amount of competitors Each one can choose a track and possibly car class(or otherwise limit the car choices) from a game of choice. For example one might want to race certain RBR stage while another would like to race Nürnburgring in assetto corsa.(the participants' access to different games naturally limits the choice if they are unable/unwilling to get new games) From each race the competitors get points based on their finishing position When all the races are done the "season" ends and all the leaderboard points are counted, the highest score wins There might be need for some rules, for example point reductions or time penalties for running other people off the road or skipping parts of the track on purpose in multiplayer races or even kicking someone out for constant misbehavior. The organization could be done through a discord server perhaps. For some games where there are no leaderboards or multiplayer, people could stream their run(through discord) to the others so there would be no need to record, send and review any runs. The leaderboard updates could also be sent on a text channel.(for this it would be best to have very close group to avoid griefers etc.) The races could be done every weekend for example so it would minimize the amount of people skipping races that don't fit their schedule Anyone could organize a league like this of course, but if there were some high class sim racers in the league it could be quite interesting(and very prestigious lol).
Thank you for making video about this legendary and best rallysim! I have played this from 2009 and have got much help for rallying in real life! So nice to see this sim is still alive👌🏻

I do love racing games, and even used to write the guides for them for certain magazines, but Richard Burns Rally is one that slipped through my net. Until you mentioned it ages ago, Jimmy. So I picked it up on Xbox and oh boy. It is absolutely mind numbingly good. If this came out on a modern console, it'd still be stunning on account of the detail and realism.
@@fafiteee rFactor is an interesting case for me. It's a good game, but it doesn't give me the same feeling that RBR, GPL, and NR2003 gives me. It's probably bias, but if I wanted to do some fast road course racing outside of iRacing, I would use the PTA or TPTCC mods for NR2003. That said, rFactor has aged well, but personally not to the level of RBR, GPL, and NR2003.
For people having trouble getting on, or not liking the hungarian plugin for some reason, there's a czech plugin and I think a french one too, running their own events, leaderboards etc.
Someone had a 60’s Saab with the 2-stroke 3 cyl engine in a forest rally near me and it sounded like 3 demonic chainsaws with loudspeakers connected to the exhaust. It was the loudest, most glorious noise in the world.
I have no idea of what you said the first 3 minutes, because the music timetravelled my mind back to the good times of buying and tuning cars at dealerships in GranTurismo2
Some tips: 2 right mouse clicks and it opens a camera editor (fov and etc) 2 left mouse clicks and it opens a pacenotes editor Works only when you are inside the car on a stage.
Bought this on PS2 back in the day. Took a lot of practice using a normal controller. Amazingly pleased that modders have taken the base game to another level.
Oh the Trabant! The roof was made from actually p l y w o o d, to save weight and costs. I sat in Trabants many times when I was little back in Hungary and I can confirm it tops out at 89 kph (52 mph) after you floor it for two minutes.
It depends on the state of the engine (and a bit of RNG luck, being it a zwei-stroke), but trabants that get a good care are capable of going 130 km/h. Of couse, it takes a while to get there, indeed :)
I feel the same about the gearbox whine of an old bus that i used to drive with when i was lil. Gosh. Too bad they don't drive anymore for quite a few years now. Good thing there's OMSI 2
This mod is fantastic, SRF are really making strides in their version of RBR, they’re currently redeveloping the service park and other features that are due really soon.
downloading it right now (i'm coming for you in that trabant league, jimbob) and i'm so hyped. i've only ever played the dirt rallies as far as rally sims go and i'm excited to play the granddaddy when it gets done downloading in three years. and the idea of having just, like, a huge library of cars and stages to fuck around with... delicious. i do need to figure out a way to hard mount my wheel though, because the thrustmaster clamp doesn't like it when i whip the wheel around no matter how tight i get it. i'm bad enough already, the wheel falling off doesn't help (though maybe that's a realistic feature of the trabant).
you should definitely try tarmac stage Semetin 2010, its absolutly magnificent... also there is a vid on yt where is Nikolay Gryazin driving real stage and virtual stage on the same screen xD Also i live like 5km away from that stage irl and its absolutly the same
So many memories of playing this with a keyboard when it was launched.. It all started with the very first Colin game, which I still have well preserved
for those whose installer appears to hang, just leave it and wait. I kicked it off at 5am UK today and it seemed (again) to do nothing, but when I looked at 9am it was finished. I must have done something wrong somewhere though as the co driver is speaking Hungarian and I can't work out how to change it !!!!!. Makes for a challenging drive thats for sure
I built a steering wheel out of wood + the guts of an old PC joystick to play that thing. I liked the Impreza so much I saved up and bought one brand new in 1998... and I still have that car.
Hey, you said if there is a Trabant Rallye Championship, someone should tell you? Here I am. We have a very funny and interesting championship with endurance races up to 8H. 8H with a 2Stroke... welcome in East Germany :D

Until you mentioned it ages ago, Jimmy. So I picked it up on Xbox and oh boy. It is absolutely mind numbingly good.
If this came out on a modern console, it'd still be stunning on account of the detail and realism.
This game and GP legends are the racing sims that refuse to die.
I think Assetto Corsa will be there in another 8-10 years. Helps that it’s dirt cheap on sale and there’s hella modding support and refreshed visuals.
RBR, GPL, and NR2003 are pretty much the sims that have aged the best and hold their weight well especially with mods.
@@hessZL1 What's your opinion on RFactor? Do you think it's aged as well as these sims?
@@fafiteee rFactor is an interesting case for me. It's a good game, but it doesn't give me the same feeling that RBR, GPL, and NR2003 gives me. It's probably bias, but if I wanted to do some fast road course racing outside of iRacing, I would use the PTA or TPTCC mods for NR2003. That said, rFactor has aged well, but personally not to the level of RBR, GPL, and NR2003.
Love the ol' RB Rally vids. Congrats on all your progress, you hard working sim boi you
Confirmed: Jimmy came out in 2005.
For people having trouble getting on, or not liking the hungarian plugin for some reason, there's a czech plugin and I think a french one too, running their own events, leaderboards etc.

I hope you see this Jimmer, it's great to see so much confidence in your content again! Good luck with Praga!
Would love to see a dedicated series for this
Check Trabant cup under "championships" at rallysimfans site. Next event: Czech Republic
I hope jimmy doesn't forget to map and bind it
Someone had a 60’s Saab with the 2-stroke 3 cyl engine in a forest rally near me and it sounded like 3 demonic chainsaws with loudspeakers connected to the exhaust. It was the loudest, most glorious noise in the world.
Jimmy, now you got to set up a custom codriver, and I think you'll have some real fun
I have no idea of what you said the first 3 minutes, because the music timetravelled my mind back to the good times of buying and tuning cars at dealerships in GranTurismo2
Jimmy: Who the hell invented Hills!?!?!?
Me: ... Earth?
Some tips:
2 right mouse clicks and it opens a camera editor (fov and etc)
2 left mouse clicks and it opens a pacenotes editor
Works only when you are inside the car on a stage.
The Top words in this video:
1. Amazing
2.VLADIMIR!
I've been wanting to play this game for ages... thank you Jimmy for bringing it back into my focus
This game is in my heart this got me to racing games
I just went back to your old RBR videos a couple of days ago, nice to see more of these!
"If someone knows how to set leagues up..." - waits for discord ping.
Richard Bruns rally was ahead of its time, and now with mods it's even better, how cool is this
u forgot "JIMMY, real life racer HERE"
Bought this on PS2 back in the day.
@@Blafirelli depends also on the number of passengers😁 5-6 kids easily fit in the back if its the Kombi version😁
I feel the same about the gearbox whine of an old bus that i used to drive with when i was lil. Gosh. Too bad they don't drive anymore for quite a few years now. Good thing there's OMSI 2
Man, I'd love to see you stream this
Ive never had a good time in any rally sim until I downloaded this mod yesterday. I smile after every stage. Im loving it!!
Keep in mind I was still 8 years old when this game came out.
Its still one of my go to rally sims
😐🚗
This mod is fantastic, SRF are really making strides in their version of RBR, they’re currently redeveloping the service park and other features that are due really soon.
I havent played RBR before, as a rally fan, definately gonna try (fi-nal-ly)
downloading it right now (i'm coming for you in that trabant league, jimbob) and i'm so hyped. i've only ever played the dirt rallies as far as rally sims go and i'm excited to play the granddaddy when it gets done downloading in three years. and the idea of having just, like, a huge library of cars and stages to fuck around with... delicious. i do need to figure out a way to hard mount my wheel though, because the thrustmaster clamp doesn't like it when i whip the wheel around no matter how tight i get it. i'm bad enough already, the wheel falling off doesn't help (though maybe that's a realistic feature of the trabant).
you should definitely try tarmac stage Semetin 2010, its absolutly magnificent... also there is a vid on yt where is Nikolay Gryazin driving real stage and virtual stage on the same screen xD
Also i live like 5km away from that stage irl and its absolutly the same
So many memories of playing this with a keyboard when it was launched.. It all started with the very first Colin game, which I still have well preserved
I don't know of any other way to remember such a great man with such a great game.
RIP Richard. Gone but thanks to modders, never ever forgotten!
Great video as always, Jimmer! Loving that GT2 ost at the start
4:14 i am so agreeing with your statement...
the original dirt rally is way better, and the original dirt (non dirt rally) games are the best (d1- d2)
@@unity__3829 Hard disagree my guy
@@unity__3829 the FFB is horrible
@@Jimmy_Broadbent lol
@@rusher5858 in which game? ive only played dr2 on a wheel, but dr1 only on controller, and same thing with the older dirt games
for those whose installer appears to hang, just leave it and wait. I kicked it off at 5am UK today and it seemed (again) to do nothing, but when I looked at 9am it was finished. I must have done something wrong somewhere though as the co driver is speaking Hungarian and I can't work out how to change it !!!!!. Makes for a challenging drive thats for sure
Network Q Rac was the grandgranddaddy of rally games.
I built a steering wheel out of wood + the guts of an old PC joystick to play that thing. I liked the Impreza so much I saved up and bought one brand new in 1998... and I still have that car.
As I started to watch this you have 666k subscribers. On the way for a million mate! Well done!
Hey, you said if there is a Trabant Rallye Championship, someone should tell you? Here I am. We have a very funny and interesting championship with endurance races up to 8H. 8H with a 2Stroke... welcome in East Germany :D
I think some of the first things I watched on this channel were the Richard Burns series from long, long ago. Amazing game, great video, cool mod.
I remember in 2010 when my cousin bought rbr and logitech wheel and pedals
We never finished any of the stages...
Same, try it with keyboard
I’m glad the lockdown curtains haven’t just hit me, happy to see you rocking them jimmer
"If you don't know what Richard Burns Rally is... Where have you been? I mention the game nearly every episode"
Omg, been waiting for so long to see you return to the goat of rally sim. Idea for a stream, participate in a rally with Czech mod, should be good fun! :D
And to think just about 12 hours ago, I watched him do the rally school.
I had a few trabants back in the day. In fact our family car was one when I was a kid. Such an awfully amazing thing
