Vanguard look good but the newer astute with the more curvy slimline tower and deck wins me over... i am also not a fan of large boats... the bigger they are... the more curves are replaced with straight lines.
I love that the Royal Navy named a class of subs with a pun on a Rudyard Kipling quote from childrens' literature. Intelligent understated humour... how very British. Somebody on the panel that chose the name was a 'stute fish.
Australia has not purchased new Astute's... They bought Virginia-class submarines... and one Pre-Owned Astute. Later, Australia will get new different submarines built by them and UK... They will not be Astute's... they will be unique builds.

I think Canada should buy this submarine, as Canada is currently sub shopping and the Canadian Prime Minister said that the Canadian Government is seriously considering acquiring nuclear powered submarines to patrol the Arctic waters under the ice.

The UK should build at least 10 successor class nuclear attack subs. The Astute class subs have gone through a long process of working out the "bugs" in these boats, so a successor class would have a great, tested platform to start with and modify using the best current submarine technology that has been developed since the Astute class Astute-class program began in February 1986. That being said, the US should loan the UK the money necessary to build a successor class to the Astute class subs or commit to buying a few successor class attack subs for the US Navy...
Is that the same submarine that was underneath an American carrier for a day before showing itself. As we have war game's which is good. Keeps everyone on their toes.

On the Royal Navy official website for HMS Astute it says on the main facts and figures page 100 personnel, 5 toilets and showers and 16000 tonne displacement... I think that is all we need to know. Could perhaps benefit from shedding a few pounds.
