"Did they send me daughters when I asked for sons?"
Well... Yep.
+Domynique Santos well at least one lol
+Domynique Santos unknowingly yes :P
Is "genderfluid" what you put in your gendercar to run your genderwindshield wipers, so you can drive your gendercar through the genderrain to your shitty gender cult meetings?
no they didn't, mulan went of her own volition....
No they did not send mulan she had to sneak over there because her father was hert from previous battles and mulan didn't thick he would make it
Plays this when you are writing a 8 page essay due in the morning at eleven pm.
really gets that blood pumping till you see that sweet sunrise
Currently me.
Doing that right now... xD
Fangadora Wolfen plays this when I coloring and making a thank-you card for my grandma and grandpa
LITERALLY ME RIGHT NOW
"hey girls, what do you like in a boy?"
"well, he must be as swift as the crossing river."
It's "the coursing river" just to let you know
Ana Bia I'm a guy, and it may not matter, but I think it's the "mysterious as the dark side of the moon". But that's just me X3
+Ana Bia "With all the force of the great typhoon"
+Ana Bia Donny Osmond's voice.
"With all the strength of a raging fire"
To this day, this is still the best Disney song ever made.
Ikr I've never even seen Mulan
It's on Netflix right now.
OMY GAWSH REALLY cause I looked two days ago and it only had the second one
Last I saw, it was lol. Along with Hercules and the other 90's ones.
I only saw a picture of it in a look and find book
This song gets me so hype. I sing it so aggressively that my mom doesn't let me play it in the car
HAHAHAHA
My mom and I turn up the volume up high and then we both sing it aggressively :D
W.T.F!? You made me burst out laughing! xD
heck yeah! totally my power song at work sometimes!
Swift, because you gotta work fast.
Forceful, because you gotta put all you got into the work, full strength/full force.
Strong, because you gotta hang in there for at least eight hours.
Mysterious, because you can only complain so many times in one shift, so you eventually you have to hide the negatives and just smile through it, with no one the wiser about how tired you really are.
"Did they send me daughters when I asked for sons?"
Me: [cries] Oh Mulan, they know!!!
An email sent my boyfriend when I asked for male first born!
***** I remember that. LOL
This song really motivates me when hitting the gym xD
+Riyanto Marjanom I always cut gym
+jakesterofawesum You're a fool for cutting gym
+Riyanto Marjanom, Let's get down to business...to defeat THE BUNS!
Don't really know why it's a problem to send daughters when they asked for sons, though. *knocks punching bag off with one quick jab*
It has to do with the historical setting of Mulan.
Honestly I love Mulan. As a kid, she taught me that girls can be powerful too. We don't just have to sit and dream about boys and our only purpose be making a family. If we work hard enough, we can have practically any career we want. This movie doesn't get as much attention or credit that it deserves.
Baileigh Bell Shut the fuck up.
Oh wow. You're so very clever for that. You're bothered by a 15 year old. How cute. 😂😂😂
Baileigh Bell Lol I type relatively fast, that message took me like 2 seconds therefore not a waste of my time. Now take your bullshit feminist propaganda back to tumblr.
#1: You know damn well the stupidity in your first comment took a solid 15 seconds.
#2: Asswipes like you aw the reason we as humans can't prosper. You may think the posts and comments are over exaggerating, but they're not. On a day-to-day basis, millions of women are disrespected and put down. Yeah, I get there are bigger issues; however, I'm not going to sit and be silenced as all of this continues on. I certainly won't be silenced by the likes of you.
And I assure you my post wasn't complete bullshit. Maybe you're just too simpleminded to understand it.
If you think I'm intimidated by you, you are sadly mistaken.
Baileigh Bell Nice speech m8
I r8 8/8 did not read ;)
Listening to this makes me feel like I could punch clean though a wall!!!
Whenever I hear this I feel I want to punch something, like I want to jump, to scream, to run, like if I can't stay still
2:23 I really love that line. The whole reason Mulan went to war was so her father didn't have to go, now that she knows that her sacrifice was in vain she could have just gone home. But instead she decided to stay and actually bring honor to her family in her own way, I find that to be quite beautiful and the reason why I love Mulan more than most of the other female Disney characters.
I like that part too! I take the lesson to be that even if no one else believes in you and even after everyone else, even if your mentor or hero, gives up on you, you still gotta believe in yourself, persevere, and succeed anyway. Prove the doubters wrong, and don't ever give up on yourself, even if you're the only one in the room who believes in you.
This has to be my FAVORITE old school Disney Song, granted I like some of the songs in the newer Disney movies, but this is still the highest on my nostalgic Disney Songs list.
and you MIGHT survive. emphasis on that.
Yeah, after all the goal of captain Shang was not to keep his men alive, but to use them in the way that best ensured China's safety.
I can't believe I didn't know Donny Osmond sang this until like a month ago... This is by far my favorite song from all Disney movies
This is my favorite song from Mulan.
I like how as he sings, he slowly loses hope in them
" I'll make a man out of you "
" somehow I'll make a man out of you "
567 Huns disliked this
anyone else listens to this when they workout? XD
ME! only on leg days :)
+7neochan lol hahahahah man I love the comment section
I just added it to my workout play list lol
+7neochan i listen to the mandarin chinese version by jackie chan while working out
me
This song fills you with determination.
Listening to this song reminds me of going through boot camp where I started off as one of the characters in Mulan. At the course people get caught up with the word "be a man", but that's what it was like in those days. During war the young men would go off to fight and sometimes die for their county. It still happens today, but now there are capable strong women who have a calling to be more than who they are. When I hear the chorus I'm reminded of going through the pressure, pain, and stress that bootcamp threw at me. The song is not about being men its about working together to be on unit and one purpose, each individual as strong as their teammate before and after them. It was about transforming a group of individuals to one effective fighting force. Every brother and sister of mine in the military has their own experience with bootcamp and without a doubt no matter where we came from we all had the same goal during our training. I don't expect people to see that in this song nor am I judging anyone that see's this song differently, this is how see it and it still brings tears to my eyes because it reminds me of the challenges and accomplishments my division went through to be where we are today.
Okay, I'm spanish and this is the first time I listen to this song in english.
HOLY FUCK IS SO GOOD.
+EazyPeezy He could be from spain in which case he would still be correct.
Xavion Morton She* xD
My fault, wasn't paying attention to your profile pic lol.
one of Diseny's best songs in my opionion. Pretty good movie too. ^.^
IKR!!!! Love this song!!!!
lol ironic "did they send me daughters when I asked for sons?" Oh oh Mulan they're on your tail!!
Dramatic irony: Disney shows you how it's done.
Did anyone listen to the lyrics ? The majority of this song is home insulting them. And yet, still a pretty good song.
It's often said the more it seems like a drill sergeant hates you, the more he cares for you.
Disney's definition of what a man is - no wonder people are struggling!
"We must be swift as a coursing river
With all the force of a great typhoon
With all the strength of a raging fire
Mysterious as the dark side of the moon"
But that aside, great song - love it! :D
Well, these particular men ARE going to war.
Christine Darnell Yes, but it also fits quite well with the high standards in the other classical Disney movies. Just thought it was a bit funny. :P
I actually think this is almost satirical in nature. Here they are listing the qualities of an excellent male soldier and there's Mulan learning to meet and then exceed those expectations. A lesson to all of us that hard work and perseverance overcome a multitude hurdles. Disney practically shouted "Hey! You can do it."
***** Don't worry! I'm with ya! :D
Its just hyperbolic language, Disney doesn't really think men should be like that.
This song was stuck in my head all week so i had to watch it on Netflix lol. Now I keep looking it up on RUclips to listen to it. Brings back so many memories. This song is a masterpiece.
Donny Osmond's best work
RIP replay button. I so miss my childhood!
I love this song... The movie gives a message... Woman are stong just like men.. Always try... Thank you! I love this song and the movie and disney... Great job
i sing this every time i... well, do anything :)
Mulan is my favorite Disney movie. Not just because she shows that women can kick butt. But also because she does all of this just to keep her father alive. :)
Realizing the significance of how how strong they all became, as a group of conscripted soldiers, is pretty damn amazing
I love the last part 2:57. Sounds so powerful!
Cinderella= has nothing to do with history, plus, she should be happy with what she has
Aurora= just had to sleep for a while to get a guy
Ariel= freaking changed her whole life for a guy's looks
Snow White= just HAD to be the fairest
Mulan= Is educational on the three kingdoms historically, she saves her father from (maybe) death, even if that costs her life, doesn't ask for a guy, WORKED her ass off, and did I forget to mention she SAVED ALL OF CHINA?!?!!??
Come on Disney.....
Cinderella WAS happy with what she had. She woke up singing and smiling despite having a stepmother that made her a literal slave. She didn't wish for her life to change or to get married to a prince- she wished she could go to the ball. Have ONE DAY where she could have fun.
Ariel had an entire treasure trove loooong before she had even SEEN Eric. She had always wanted to see the human world for herself, but she didn't even KNOW any humans. Meeting Eric didn't lead to her changing herself for a guy. It lead to her falling in love and wanting that dream of becoming a human 10x stronger.
Snow White didn't WANT to be the fairest. She was simply born that way. While her story is lame, her most important lesson comes from "With a Smile and a Song": "Remember you're the one who can fill the world with sunshine." She did wish to find true love, but what little girl doesn't, honestly? She was just a 14-year-old bucket of sunshine. Kinda unfair to boil her down to "she was pretty".
I'm not saying anything about Aurora cuz I hated her. She did nothing...had no purpose in life...
Point is that, yes, Mulan is an amazing princess. But is it necessary to put down other princesses to get that point across? Most girls look up to the princesses and identify with certain ones. Girls that don't fit in or girls who participate in a "boy" activity can totally look up to Mulan, but we DO need princesses like Snow White and Cinderella, bc some girls simply want to be happy.
I'm pretty sure china lost. They just changed it for the sake of the movie.
Monster High Girls I don't know if I would say "Three Kingdoms" The Han Dynasty sure but given how Shu centered everything about the Three Kingdoms is, and the fact that a war against the Huns (Properly known as the Xiongnu at that point if I remember correctly) was happening meant that it likely would've been Wei, who usually is portrayed as the "Evil" Kingdom, it seems rather odd that they would rewrite the story to Wei as the good guys, as this was long before Frozen (Which I am 100% sure you knew), which is the most obvious example of rewriting an antagonist as a hero, there were probably others but that's the only one I noticed.
Monster High Girls Let me start off by saying that Cinderella (1950), Snow White (1939), and Sleeping Beauty (1959), are all film adaptions of Brothers Grimm stories. So Disney may have changed some things but the stories themselves are old. So you cant possibly understand how meaningful these stories were to women. Furthermore all of these movies are pre 60's so women didnt have much going for them then either. Snow white didnt have to be the fairest, SHE WAS the fairest, the one who was hung up on that was the queen. In The Little Mermaid, yea she changed her life for a guy, but thats what she wanted as described in the song "Part of your World", the lesson isn't to change yourself to fit the man you may want, Its to pursue what you feel is necessary for you, even if that means you give up your previous self. And in any case, Mulan is the best princess simply because of her rap sheet, but you cant let that besmirch other princesses, they did what was necessary to come out on top of theyre respective ordeals. Its like saying that person 1, who has overcome a lot of strife, is better than person 2, someone of potentially equal qualities, simply because person 2 hasnt seen as much action.
+Mitch Wiggins plus Disney won't make a movie just by saying u have to change ur world (the little mermaid) when u meet a guy think about it guys. even tho mulan is based of a true thing don't mean that all the other diseny princess are rubbish even tho Pocahontas is sort of a real life thing
Reyna singing this to new recruits of New Rome or better yet, Hazel singing this whenever Frank works out
Omg yes that's perfect
Ahhhhh yesss
But instead if Be a Man its Be Roman
this song is so turnt
HOLY SHIT YES! I IMAGINE THIS SONG PLAYING WHILE FRANK AND HAZEL TRAIN.
I fangirl SO hard at the end when she proves herself and does so much better than the other guys I'm just like "Yeah you go Fa Mulan! Ten for you Fa Mulan!" And if you get that reference I love you XD
My coach used to play this at every basket ball practice and then again before we scrimmaged the boy's team. It was awesome.
Why's everyone always in the extremity on feminism and gender equality? Why can't we agree that all things sentient-- conscious and aware of one's existence-- are capable of the same qualities? All people, regardless of gender or race, share nearly identical traits in mental predisposition. Traits of the physical and cultural dispositions come second. What you become or how you act is entirely determined by cultural and environmental exposure, none of which we can truly control, meaning no one has the right to make such judgments!
I fully support what you say. Many people lack their own identity or aren't happy with it. See how teenagers go through their rioting stage searching for themselves. They will cling to different subcultures and define themselves through it before they are capable to really feel confident with just who they are by themselves. Some really recognize themselves in the subculture and never leave it, some never manage to mature to their own identity, some just leave them, some give their own twist and while remain nostalgic and to some degree similar still forge their own path.
I do view a lot of these group focused movements as different tribal identities which look very attractive for people who have identity crisis or/and feel threatened by what they perceive as being stronger identities of other people. So they cling into groups who focus on perserving that group / tribal identity.
And it's sad. People are still very tribal what touches care, empathy, bonding and so on. It's very easy to start hating people who are not within your circle or do not share same tribal identity. Us vs Them phenomena is real and lives on. And I don't want to attack just feminism here, but any artificially created group which ends up of caring only about themselves, and although they do sometimes get sense of fullfilment or even heroic for fighting for what they perceive really matters or is morally good that kind of altruism is just group egoism.
I hope more people would think like you, gobally and would extend their empathy towards any human. Not just ones they do identify themselves with like race, national nonsense, gender, orientation or whatever. Uh :(
You are right.
You guys are way overthinking this. Its a Disney movie.
Yea, I totally agree, but it would be pretty annoying to just let all those ignorant scumbags who can't accept gender equality to step all over the people who take their words personally, even if they obviously aren't supposed to.
Kettz You sir need a medal for that speech, I bet TheMysteriousMrEnter would be proud of your statement on gender equality, especially if it was om his Admirable Animations of "Operation Future" from Kids Next Door (mostly because it fits within the context).
Did they send me daughters when I asled for sons?
Mulan: O shit, he's seen right through me.
Imagine Jackie Chan singing to this. I heard he sings so awesome!
+Secely Noemi Torres you do know that he sang the mando version of this right? :D
I didn't know that. lol
+Secely Noemi Torres And a cantonese version. It's on youtube.
Thanks for telling me lol
Cough bruce lee
These are the most epic lyrics I've ever heard in a song.
16 years later and this song still me goosebumps.
i don't think anyone who's ever heard this song has not liked it...
Ok whenever I hear this I think the whole training scene but also remember TFS's vers to witch is hularius
This song can cheer me up any time.
When you're playing Civilization V and go to war with the Huns this song should start playing.
YES

GODDAMIT BRENDON URIE
+My Lawyer Made Me Change The Name Of This Account So I Wouldnt Get Sued Haha XD Yup. P.S. I LOVE your username XD
in math class my teacher said lets get down to business and I sang the entire song. the best way to get a detention.
Im going to try working out to this song
It's a great idea XDDD
This is me preparing for a test....
I sing this to my team every time I ladder solo queue...
Downloaded this song today on my iTunes and I get very blushing when I hear this. It's so much better than frozen
I like how he looses confidence throughout the song. "Mister I'll make a man out of you" turns to "Somehow I'll make a man out of you" finally resulting in "How can I make a man out of you?!" haha
Never gets old!
such a beautiful song
I love this song so much, it means to me that girls can do anything everyones equal, i love the tune and setting
Look, another song that should have FUCKING BEEN USED IN KINGDOM HEARTS AT SOME POINT
after saving china, I went home, alone. I was feeling conflict in my lover zone. I've been dressing like a guy for months now I'm losing all control. I think I am a guy in my soul.
I've never seen a guy so hot
Time to reinvent the new me
Everytime he speaks he makes me want to sing
be quite or we'll be caught
Maybe one day he'll screw me
now I really get why my nickname is Ping
I've got the brains and the bite of females plus the brute and brawn of dudes. I know I'm ready for transformation, time to replace all these useless tubes.
Thank you Paint for ruining this song for me forvever.
OMG PAINT
Good for you..... The prince was absolutely the only thing single wish my heart made.
Guess that wish came true. but we never really talked much. before he discovered my shoe.
The night after we got married I recounted all of my plights. Of how I fit inside a pumpkin, my canines turned to coachmen. Prince threw me in Bedlam that night.
The white jackets say I'm nutty. Cause my clothes are sewn by rats. But those pills turned my brain to putty, and Lucifer is not just my cat.
I AM... SATAN!!!!!!!
Their insulin put me under. Shock therapy's made me insane.
SO AFTER YEARS OF STEADY FRYING, THE DOCTORS GAVE UP TRYING. THEY STUCK TWO STEEL RODS IN MY BRAIN
same😂😂😂
+Amy Rose i like it better lol
lol, the after ever after songs are like all i listen to when i do anything, have it all memorized and love singing it all the time
It's pretty funny how he slowly progressed from "Mister i'll make a man out of you" to "How can I make a man out of you" XD
I'm leaving for Bootcamp in 5 days so needless to say my favourite disney song (this one) will be on repeat for those days
I think Mulan and Brother Bear are Disney's most underrated movies
I live the tweleve layers of irony in this song. Like the whole thing is aggressively 'be a man, be a man, be a man' all while the person watching/listening gets to know the one person succeeding is the only non-man there. Which changes it from 'eh training song whatever' to 'comdey gold'
LOVE this song ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Whoever watched Paints After Ever After 2 after this... We share a mind o.o
I did
So this is an absolutely perfect song for Red vs Blue. This is totally Washington singing to Tucker and the Reds!
All I can think of is Four from Divergent
Omg me too! Tbh this kinda reminds of divergent in general. Mulan is like Tris and the trainer guy is like Tobias.

I love this.
This song just inspires me
I bloody love Disney classics.
i love this song
This song really motivated me to get in second place in running in PE !
Mulan is my favorite princess. Why? Her memo is girls don't have to just sit around and dream about guys all the live-long day while cleaning up the house, they can actually go out and stand strong for what they think is right. Plus she kicks butt in the movie!
if they the top mulan songs this one should be number one
I love this song! :)
gave me chills
I have this horrible infatuation with this film and song
Can't Study - Watch Mulan
Invite a Person Over - Watch Mulan
Bonding - Watch Mulan
Planning a Scheme - Listen to this song
At the Gym - Watch Mulan
Think either or not I need help, deny that and .... watch Mulan
same but with beauty and the beast
this is the one thing society can accept. like, you've got disney haters and all that, but we can all agree that this song is great
Studying to this music and it helps!!!!!
My highschool track coach made us run laps while singing this song. Unsurprisingly, we ran for a lot longer than usual. :)
This is what I hear in my head during football practice, and it is surprisingly very motivational. Only instead of word "huns", insert the mascot name of our opponent.
I remember this from Mulan but I can't stop thinking about the DBZ abridged parody anymore.
jankzon13154 I really love the parody its so funny that piccolo is training gohan, popo trains the z fighters, and king Kai training goku. I was thinking how ironic they also made a Pokemon parody of this song and it was awesome
I really really loved this song
If this song was made today it would be called "I'll Make an Unspecified Gender of Your Choice Out of You" instead.
wake me up inside
+Stoopid Pursun This killed me. XD
+farrinracer why didnt you wake me up bro
LOLZ
Sadly true.
I remember having the VHS when I was little and I literally cried when the VHS broke from watching the movie to much...
I love Mulan
i love this music too.
That part where he said "Did they send me daughters when i asked for sons" they sent you one and you eventully kicks your own butt so think about that
You.. Really don't get the irony in that Line? It was meant to be a Nod to the Meta Information the Viewer had to the story. As well as the obvious Jibe towards the Trainee's in the army, since at the time Women were not fighters, and did not train.. Its not a Diss to women, It was aimed at the men..
Otrovai Scenes in the movie, such as that song, made us realize that what Mulan did was seen as big in China. Women were seen as weak and delicate. You just seem to be analyzing what she said. Chill, it was just an empowerment comment. I think she understood well...
Heather Perez If Mulan were a real woman, it's unknown if she was real like Robin Hood or King Arthur, but there is a poem called "the Ballad of Mulan" to my knowledge, in the original Hua(Fa) Mulan was never found to be a woman.
Heather Perez Okay, care to link me to this information? I would like to read up on it.
Heather Perez It doesn't say she ever actually lived, it says people are unsure as to the time period of when she would've been alive, but it clearly states that it is a Legend, Legends can go both ways, some Legends were real, others are just stories, I'm not saying that a woman couldn't have joined the military back around the time period she would've lived, but I think when the person came up with the Ballad, they took the real life woman and replaced her name with Hua Mulan, what I believe is that the story was real, the character was not.
love this song i am in a school with dance and this song is a great workout for my team to practice to for competitions
I still love this song
I love this song
The smol Child YAS
yeaaah!
