Just so people know, Nathan Evans didn't actually write this. It was actually a band called The Longest Johns that brought the song into the 21st century, inspired by a shanty from new Zealand from many centuries ago.
P.s. not entirely relevant information but I actually saw the Longest Johns perform live at a concert down the road from where I live (which was a big surprise because the town I'm in isn't exactly in close proximity to any major cities)
Edit: sorry I was slightly wrong (but not entirely) apparently according to Google neither the longest Johns nor Nathan Evans wrote the song and they were both just covering it.

I listened to this when my dad died in the military. My papa died in 2019 on Halloween. My uncle and grant died a few weeks ago. Every Christmas I think of my family that I lost. I almost lost my mother, I almost fell off a waterfall, then my mom had to rescue me and then she slide. I was crying so hard then some people came to help her.
