I’ve been carrying my Police 4 since I got it, save a couple days I carried the 52100 Para 2. I sharpened the Police 4 to 9 degrees per side with a 500 grit Glasstone, with a few passes from the 16000 grit Glasstone at a slight elevated angle and it was splitting hairs in spots. I am very impressed with its ability to take that edge at that angle since S110V and Maxamet didn’t take it nearly as well. Between the edge and how easy it is to carry in the pocket for being so large I have been very happy with it.
If Michael christy tells you you buy something you really do go out and buy it...that guy has made me want to buy every military, paramilitary and endura spyderco makes as if I really know how to get what he gets out of those steels; Well, off to buy that $90 bench stone...
I was thinking about getting this knife back in the day but was holding up because, being new to the game, I assumed that stainlessness reigned supreme. It was this video, this very freaking video, that convinced me to take the plunge on K390 and I have not looked back since. Many thanks for your insight brother.
I’ve had the spyderco trio of ceramics for a while now and they are super good! My latest sharpening buy is a few different microns of Jende Poly Diamond emulsions in recommendation from Michael as well. He said it pulled off the burr on maxamet very effectively so I thought I’d try it since I just ran out of my 6 micron paste. I’ve been thinking about buying the police 4 but I’m torn between a few knives. 940-1 being one of them. That new manix is kinda calling my name. Too many good knives to buy is a good problem I suppose. Great video!
I tell you a sleeper knife is the stretch 2. It’s got the blade stock of the endela but with similar blade shape to the para 2 but with a little belly.
Hey BBB, Bento box gas a new pm2 exclusive for sale starting 10/4/19 at 9am!!! In not missing that one for sure! I believe for 189.00 plus 15.00 Vento Box shipping. Still cool though.
I really like K390. I've got it in a Lionsteel TRE and it always surprises me how tough it is for it's hardness (64.7 in the TRE). The geometry was reasonably thin but I had ground it a little thinner and convexed it which I found to perform really well. This Police 4 looks like a great choice for it. Also since I got the Spyderco UF stone I've been wondering - as far as I know it's meant to be 2000 grit (US) / 4000 grit (JP) and it's gotten me thinking about the Venev Diamond Stone grit chart - is the RUS grit the same/similar to US grit? I think you mentioned that it was a little different so after looking at the sharp I was using Shapton as a reference and I believe I have the wrong idea about how the venev stones are graded. Thanks for the vid there Shawn.
acoupleofsharpthings Gritomatic has a comprehensive chart chart you can geek out on. I don't pay too much attention to the different grit ratings. I have to either use the stone or have stone talk with a buddy to see what works since there are alot more varibles to performance then the grit shuch as abrasive type, shape, quality, binder type, binder hardeness, pores. It's hard to isolate each feature so I just go off of use
Big Brown Bear Yeah that's the chart I was talking about. Just making sure I've got some idea before I get them - been using DMT as the reference in the chart but I won't know for sure til I get em, thanks for the reply bud.
acoupleofsharpthings I only have experience with the 400/800 combo. The 800 makes a brighter finish but it's not going to make a true mirror. Its bright with some big scratches. The 400 isn't going to cut super fast. But leaves a good finish for a 400. More like a 600.
Yeah it looked good for 400 at the end of the detailed sharpening vid. Also going off of the chart you are spot on that it is more like a 600 (in CAMI and JIS terms it is 600-700). I've ordered the 400/800 and the 1200/2000 and I'm pretty pumped to try them out! Thanks for all the info though, appreciate the patience man.
Hey there, do you actually still use the two worksharps GSS you have on the high carbide steels since you got into the Diamant Water stones? I'm wondering if the WS GSS or the coarse/fine DMT stones are the better investment to sharpen K390 and S110v. I already have the sharpmaker Does the WS fine plate leave a shaving edge?
There’s no such thing as best, but best for your use. Depends entirely on what you plan on doing with your knife. For edc use it’s hard to beat a Delica. It’s one of those once you get it and use it, then you’ll understand why. For me it’s the combination of lightweight, slim carry and the ergonomic shape of the handle/blade it’s just perfect.
Im looking at this knife for 3 weeks now, it doesn't let me go so im gonna buy it at some point. Can i still sharpen a steel like that with the Naniwa professional stones and bark river compond or do i need the daimond stuff for that ? I really don't know, help me senpai :D !
Finest Should work, I know diamond is recommended since it's such a high Vanadium steel but if you can keep a steady consistent angle and adjust pressure appropriately to deburr without crushing your edge it should come up fine. I feel like I get crisper edges with the diamond stuff though for what it's worth.
Hey Big Brown Bear! How about me ZT knives!?! Those are my absolute favorites, in my pockets daily. Excellent durable knives, definitely pricey but I look at it like this. Would I rather have a Bentley or a Toyota Corolla? I know, most of my homies rather a Spiderco too but it's lonely at the top! :)
Nate Brabant the design are sick, the action on zt is top dawg. But man, the blades are too thick for me. That's why no ZT. Even though I love the 0456.
Glad you got yours. Its such a great knife
Cedric & Ada Gear and Outdoors I just want to fit in with the cool kids. You and Michael have one. I had to get one too hahahha

Spyderco needs to make a pm2 with K390 . Man I love that steel
Well you are in luck! The PM2 k390 goes on sale tomorrow morning 9am pacific time at Bento Box shop
So cool to see how spot on he was on this particular knife. Fantastic things are immediately apparent. They just are.

crf450r bullet david it's endless bro. Haha there are always cool blades to check out.
Damn cool bro.
👍😎👍
Awesome I’m broke and now want a new knife
Fricking badass! I knew you would get one haha.
Loris Buschor it's a dope blade man. There are definitely Fancier knives but this knife will cut circles around em.
I've been trying the tell myself that I don't need this knife. I have the K2... Thanks for the video...
Christopher Swope I like the blade shape better then the K2, tip down carry is also rad. But yeah the K2 is fricken sweet.
Since you can't buy this G10 version anymore, what are your thoughts on the lightweight version? It is still going to cut light a lightsaber.
Whaddaya mean I can't treat my spyderco like a battle axe and still shave my face with it?! Michael is definitely a hell of a sharpener!
Quinton D. Christy is da man
Damn, Shawn I need this !
I tell you a sleeper knife is the stretch 2. It’s got the blade stock of the endela but with similar blade shape to the para 2 but with a little belly.
Mine should be here Monday 💪🏼
I paid over double that for one in 2023
K390 is my go to for durability
What i call this knife and also my Endura: a "tactical" kitchen knife.

I just want this knife so much...
Sweet glad the bear got his K390
Do you have a favourite locking system.
Howard green hrmmm haven't really though about it.
Hey there,
do you actually still use the two worksharps GSS you have on the high carbide steels since you got into the Diamant Water stones? I'm wondering if the WS GSS or the coarse/fine DMT stones are the better investment to sharpen K390 and S110v. I already have the sharpmaker Does the WS fine plate leave a shaving edge?
Nice
If only they made this in 15v!!
What’s the best lock back for the money?

Hi. Do your model has some vrrtical blade play?
Im looking at this knife for 3 weeks now, it doesn't let me go so im gonna buy it at some point. Can i still sharpen a steel like that with the Naniwa professional stones and bark river compond or do i need the daimond stuff for that ? I really don't know, help me senpai :D !

Now K390 would have to have reduced toughness over m4 correct?

Big Brown Bear I need big knives to cut my bacon and watermelon! Hehehehe!
Nate Brabant hahahaha YES
Pm2 maxamet or police k390.... pick one!
Sour k390police baby
handle is thin and you will have pain if you cut with this knife... you cant give pressure to not have pain... this makes this knife useless
Man up
