Thank you for all the kind comments so far. I teared up reading them. I was so afraid you would be mad I chose that ending, or that I didn't get enough war assets to theoretically allow Shep to live. I can't tell you how much it means to me to read all these loving words. Y'all are truly the best. I will record a reaction to the indoctrination theory! Next up: Dragon Age and Andromeda! 🥰
I can understand why you pick the ending because it totally what the mission to destroy the reaper. However i don't think you understand the Control ending epilogue sentence. He said that "I will protect and sustain i will act as guardian for the many". THat to me is good. I will admit all ending has pro and cons. Also Control is my kind of ending since i couldn't bear thought of destroy EDI and Geth (which I already have them as allies). What the point destroy them when i made peace with the geth?? Anyway you get a sub from me. Keep upi a good work
@@biowarelover9435 I agree. My Shepard would choose Control. I wan to help. My first playthrough I didn't have have the green as a choice. I couldn't bear to kill EDI and the Geth. I fought so hard for them to let them die.
It was awesome to see you play this. One of the best gaming experiences out there, even if everyone isn't happy with the ending. I myself don't care too much for the ending but I can't let the final hour of a game ruin around 100 hours of a great series. And if you don't like the end you can pretend the Citadel DLC party is the ending. Excited to see Dragon Age now. Dragon Age: Origins is one of my favorite games as well and people seem to not play that game much anymore. Hope you enjoy it.
The final interaction with Garrus is my favorite in the entire series. Whether you romance him or he's your bff, Garrus is a real one "There's no Shepard without Vakarian"
Not sure if you know this, but you will get the same ending as a Paragon. You still stab Kai Leng, and you still get "That was for Thane/Miranda/Kirrahe you son of a bitch", the only difference is that in the Paragon version, Shepard dodges the sword and Kai Leng stabs the computer rather than Shepard breaking the sword. I take the Renegade interrupt too, but they made it so that you still get the satisfaction and the Paragon points.
BTW if your war assets are really low, the game REALLY recommends you don’t continue. And if you do go through with low war assets, the kid will be like wtf are you doing here, and you will only get one choice (two if you count rejection) based on whether you kept or destroyed the Collector Base in Mass Effect 2.
@@MegMage also if you didn’t have enough war assets, your squadmates that you brought with you for the last battle would have died. It’s hurts the most because it’s usually your beloved characters. It is also the ONLY time Liara and James can die in the ENTIRE series.
If you were planning on killing everyone, you would have to choose Liara and James as squadmates with low War assets and then also choose Destroy to finish off EDI. There’s a video from Big Dan Gaming where everybody in the entire Mass Effect trilogy dies if you want to react to that as well. ruclips.net/video/D4cZBfdWOio/видео.html
@@Trattato68 When you go talk to Hacket he’ll basically really encourage you to do more things and if you continue, he’ll basically sound like a really disappointed dad but he’ll go through with it.
The "I'm Proud of You" moment from this game makes me cry EVERY dang time. I don't even need to see the scene, the song is enough to get the water works flowing.
4:11:22 So I don't know if you really saw what happens with Kasumi's synthesis ending. All sentient life, with synthesis were in a sense, given the bridge between emotions and the way of life like the other species. As a result, if you prompted for Kasumi to keep Keiji's greybox, the VI of himself inside will come to life and in a sense, she gets to reunite with him in a way.
Tbh, I remember when the game came out, I chose destroy, because that's what I came here to do (played renegade Shep, and she was really all about the mission). I knew I was about to lose EDI, and that's what made the choice really hard. I feel it does make the choice harder but a lot more interesting if you realize that prior.
I wonder if we stopped Legion's upload, they could be saved from the beam since it only destroy Reaper-based tech and Geth are primarily developed by Quarrians until they make Reaper Upgrade on themselves, maybe they get slightly damaged but only the Reaper part and not the whole race killed. Also BioWare should've choose 1 canon ending and have the outcome (what strategy are used, who are sacrificed for what, who survived) determined by the war score and past decision. It's like suicide mission but you get to decide which fleet goes against which enemies and their survivability varies. For example the Quarians are saved by the Geth if you let Legion Upload or have them hacked & betray the Quarians if you keep the Heretics back in ME2 or have the Quarians absolutely wrecked if you decide to kill the Geth. It would make the game much more re-playable since there is so many variations of the ending, but everything leads to one conclusion so there's no debate on "which ending are canon" for the next game.
personally, in terms of writing, just the best game series ever. Scripts, background lore, amazing characters that feel soo real. Mature enough to get invested in and take seriously. while remaining fun. Equal parts inspiring, heart warming, hilarious, and endlessly fascinating but also, bleak, tragic, and at times crushing. The script for Mordin's loyalty mission in ME2 remains the best written dialogue I have ever had the pleasure of following in a game.
@@MegMage Honestly, ME2 was were the plot problems started for ME3: Bioware forgot that the needed to address the Reapers directly and just threw a plot around well written side missions only to remember that they needed to address the Reapers and came up with Arrival DLC. ME3 also forgets about many characters such as: Emily Wong, Corporal Toombs, the pair from the Keepers Quest (I wonder how that quest could have affected this game), the whole planet Noveria and more. Another aspect they messed up was leaving the Virmire Survivor to a cameo appearance (chose neutral speech options when talking to one or the other on Horizon) which, while initially made me angry that was the precise intent, to see how TIM turned the people you cared for against you. Leaving that plot line hanging left to the bull rushed confrontation in ME3 with them (you don't know how I wanted to tell them how close they were with their accusations of potentially feeling like we owed something to Cerberus or that Miranda almost placed a mind control chip in Shepard only to be stopped by TIM) on two main mission, good idea horribly executed. I love this series, but Bioware work was lackluster in some aspects of the games, I played the original games back when they came out and the endings you have access to here are 10x time better than what we originally got which was only: the Crucible firing, the effects on Earth and the Normandy crashing on a random planet and the effects on the crew and that was it. If we got the Shepard breathing scene that was the thing that made the fandom question where was Shepard located at because the scene was surrounded by bricks and other debris and not broken metal which lead to the birth of the Indoctrination Theory and the interesting is that Bioware WAS planning Shepard being indoctrinated at some point during the story (they might have left some remnants of the story). You now have: all DLC and the Extended Cut which honestly made the game endings somewhat tolerable as well the game progress, in it's base form it felt like a big Arc was missing from the game and the DLC basically fills that role.
@@luisemoralesfalcon4716 There needed to be at least 4 Mass Effect games in the Shepard story. I don't mind one of the games being just a really really really long side quest as long as it's just gushing with world building and great characters that will become relevant in the coming 2 games. The ME3 we got should have been cut into two separate games to really flesh the galaxy out before having it plunge into a warzone. The conflicts centuries in the making resolved within months lacks the oomph they deserved. Have ME3 be a prewar game with Shepard actually uniting the galaxy and helping solve the problems over a span of maybe two years, ending with the first sign of a full on Reaper invasion of a galaxy with barely bandages holding it together. ME4 could then be the actual war game with Shepard flying around the galaxy with his squad putting down fires, pulling straddlers in line, making sure the alliances s/he built with the choices s/he made in ME1-3 hold up. This is where all the choices Shep made in the last 3 games end up mattering, maybe some of the Paragon choices end up backfiring and some Renegade ones bear fruit. The ME3 we got feels like it's always in a hurry to hastily tie up any loose ends introduced in 1 and ignored in 2 when they really needed the time to breathe and develop into even better arcs. But for some reason everything with numbers has to be a trilogy and follow a three act structure, otherwise fans/CEOs/shareholders/parents/the media gets confused.
@@treemu I love your points but those threads ignored in ME2 ARE the problem: A/K were relegated to a cameo role when they should have had another scene where we either broke off or made them look like idiots for falling for TIM plan, Bioware forgot about the Reapers until Arrival and even that was hastly created, there needed to be a mission that it is Shepard going to the Council after dealing with the Collectors (could be tied to the A/K meeting) and we told them what transpired (Get, Collectors, how they were all duped by TIM, etc). ME3 should have opened with the trial Hackett told Shepard to attend to not 6 months after the Reaper invasion, Bioware could make a time jump at the start for 6 months if they wanted to and then start again with the Defense Committee caing us like it happened in the game, add planets like Noveria and the characters like Giana Parasini as well characters left hanging because Bioware and EA took ME3 development and bull rushed everything about it. ME4 would take place AFTER ME3 and it would lead to MEA.
Really enjoyed your whole Mass Effect series. It's been great to watch a whole new galaxy of people kick the reapers right in their weird cockroachy butts.
I hate when people talk about playing this “the right way” the whole point of this series is that the game changes depending on how you play. It’s literally your choice. If you don’t like certain choices, don’t make them when you play. I don’t like any of the choices other than destroy, but if you prefer synthesis or control or shooting the child, great. As I said, the whole point of playing this game is that YOU decide.
...but it still has to be allowed to state other suggestions, or other insights, views and opinions. I myself can clearly see, that the destroy option can be seen as a (or one of the) bad choice(s), for it is one of the 2 out of the four options, where you'll have massive casualties (for example think of the genocide on the geth you commit with this choice)
@@darksign2898 yes but there is a difference between suggesting another option and giving reasons, and getting angry or annoyed at a person because they made different choices to you.
ME community seems really toxic in that way, I've seen people get harassed into switching to other classes and having worse experiences for it. Apparently the only way your allowed to play ME is Vanguard, Garrus/Tali romance, Paragon, and someone dies in the Suicide Mission you have to start it over.
I like Synthesis in theory, but they just made it look so weird by adding that weird green layer and the green glowing eyes of the damned to everybody.
I just find synthesis existentially terrifying. Life reaching an ultimate form of perfection feels... wrong to me. I dunno, I don’t feel like anyone is really wired into being able to accept an objective form of perfection so I guess it’s only natural it would feel weird. But really I guess it’s because I just don’t trust the Catalyst’s way of thinking all that much, mostly because it’s flawed logic resulted in the reapers which were just a really crap solution both in theory and in practice. It just couldn’t accept that life is naturally imperfect and that conflict is always going to rise in some form, there’s just no escaping that. So not only does synthesis change biology, but it changes the definition of life itself (metaphorically speaking). Is it right to make that drastic of a change? Can we even judge when we’re incapable of fully understanding the concept? Would our choice leave some kind of mental toll on everyone or will they be able to cope with the new changes? Should we even trust the broken logic of our greatest enemy? Why are all these endings so fucking awful and horrifying?! Why couldn’t they just let us kill god and feel happy about it?!
Awesome playthrough, I love seeing people visit this life-changing series for the first time. And don't fret over the ending you chose. The other two required a great deal of trust that the Reaper Space Baby is being honest with you, and it's perfectly understandable not to want to take those chances. And I'm personally always a little creeped out by the Synthesis ending, even if a lot of people argue in favor of it. Forcibly turning every living thing in the universe into a cyborg without their consent feels a tad icky to me.
Destroy ending is pretty mcuh canon one, it's been heavily rumored and speculated even by the members of Bioware themselves! Sure...it does render other choices useless kind of if destroy one is being used as canon, but hey we'll get over it! I'm sure considering all the implications in destroy ending, that Shepard is likely to survive this one is another reason to root for destroy ending, because in other endings he is gone for good! If i'll see Shepard alive again i don't fucking care about whether it makes other endings useless or not! To me the well being of Shepard is more important, everything else is open for interpretation!
I mean the choice is difficult in terms of morality, but not really in terms of "trust". By the time Shepard meets the Starchild, they are of no threat to it. It has no reason to lie to Shepard since it could just kill them if it wanted to dispose of them. More than that, we get narrations from trustworthy people about how each ending turned out. And if you want to consider if the Reapers were controlling the narrators, that again makes no sense, since there is no need. If the reapers ended up in control of Shepard (in the Control Ending) or of EDI (in the Synthesis Ending) they would have no reason to lie, since they would remain with entire control of the galaxy.
@@jjnull8108 He/she is talking about bs "indoctrination theory". But even without it still with control ending the problem is "ultimate power corrupt ultimately" and Synthesis ending is "best solution" from AI that didnt find better solution than mass destruction throug bilions of years. There starchild says that it take best of two worlds but the best of organic is random mutation and evolution, and best of synthetic is being perfect copy of itself which looks to me like two conflicted thing. synthetic dont make mistakes and changes only when they find it beneficial, organic makes lots of mistakes and keep them only if it is beneficial. You stop evolution in some point if you try to combine those two
@@jasonskeans3327 is because even if everything is correct than still reapers can be defeated in combat so you would have to go to console and activate it. But you don't so game ends half hour to early which is bs :p
Jennifer Hale actually choked up in that final interaction with Garrus. The devs decided to keep it in because they loved it so much. Edit: I’m also excited for you to play through Andromeda! It looks like the new Mass Effect will be combining both the original trilogy and Andromeda (hence the presence of the two galaxies). Also, it’s theorized that the next Mass Effect will take place about 600 years in the future (when Andromeda takes place) so that’s why you see Liara. We even might be able to see Grunt as well, since Krogan live for so long and Wrex is really old
@@greg3885 Yeah i just learned they raised them again. I got it on my first playthrough on the original for PC before they added the extended ending and lowered the required war assets.
I've always gone with the destroy ending before, but if I was to play again, I'd go with control. I don't like synthesis, because it takes away the bodily autonomy of every organic life, you're choosing for them. I've always gone with destroy, because that's basically always been the end goal, destroying the Reapers no matter what. But that also destroys the Geth and EDI. I'd go with control now, because it seems to do the least amount of harm, while putting a very good person (if you're Paragon), in control of the Reapers, turning them into a force for good instead of the harvest program that was previously.
I picked Destroy my first time because I was impetuous and inflexible, but now I pick Control. What future threat could ever beat a Shepard- controlled Reaper armada? Big God-Emperor of Dune vibes
The control ending isn't as good as you might think. While this new A.I might have Shepards memories Its still a new entity that doesn't exactly think the same as Shepard would. Also as The Illusive Man showed its possible to gain control of the Reapers and this means it could happen again even with the Shepard A.I in control. Also People might not like the idea of a Shepard A.I in control of the most powerful force in the galaxy. And this in turn would spark conflict all over again. For me synthesis was the best option. While you might be choosing the fate of the rest of the galaxy you're doing so for a good reason and it results in the most peaceful outcome. The issue which birthed the creation of the Reapers in the first place has been resolved and won't return.
@@CarlosHuiskens also in the conversation with the child, he already stated that synthesis was inevitable, so it can be assumed that would be the eventual outcome no matter what you choose.
@@paradox_4094 Star Child makes a lot of flawed presumptions. It also states that AI will always kill its creator, but saying something is inevitable doesn't make it so. And how exactly is a green wave of synthesis space magic inevitable? And considering that the robot reapers kill us to prevent robots from killing us, I wouldn't take their insane clown logic as gospel. Also, the quarians and geth can live in peace which ultimately proves Star Child wrong and renders synthesis obsolete. You don't need to violate every person in the galaxy with green space magic simply to make them get along.
@@CarlosHuiskens The control entity AI will think like Shepard since it literally absorbs Shepard's mind to create said entity. That's the whole point of it. The argument for synthesis on the other hand has the flawed assumption that any and all conflict between organics and machines is not only inevitable under any and all circumstances but also is simply due to misunderstanding. In however way that a green wave of space magic supposedly imparts wisdom and understanding into every being, the quarian-geth peace option already proves that non-consensual synthesis isn't necessary for peace and understanding.
I got the refusal ending by accident in one of my early playthroughs because I didn't realize that the bottom option would lock me into outright refusal. I figured it would just be a renegade dialogue option to end the convo and then have Star Child tell me to choose one of the three options anyway.
Personally I always go for the Synthesis ending, mainly because I cannot bring myself to sacrifice Edi and the Geth after everything they did, and I don't find it right for Shepard to "survive" the ending. But I do understand why others pick it but really don't understand why others would start an argument about it if they didn't like it lol. It's not your playthrough! Anyway, really loved this series, been looking forward to this video and thank you for playing for us, Meg!
I just wish the cutscene for Synthesis wasn't so strange. It feels like they didn't know how to get the idea across without giving everyone glowing eyes. When it comes down to it, I think I prefer Control personally, at least with a Paragon Shepard.
Agreed, without the weird glowy stuff Synthetis is, in my personal opinion, by far the best one. I'm both really hyped but also really sad about the new Mass Effect. Hyped because, well, it's my favourite franchise. But sad, because there are so many things that could go wrong with this, making the destroy ending canon would make replaying and choosing anything but destroy feel void, and making Shepard survive it all... Idk... what kind of story is it gonna be? Which characters will reappear? Shepard's story is done, why bring them back? It just feels as if they bring back the Mass Effect logo, plast it with Shepard on the front so people will pre-order and then show up with an Andromeda 2.0. It's all very worrying to say the least...
I picked it my first play through when it came out. Playing everything again in the LE made me realize that all three are presented already. Joining and working with the reapers (synthesis) is what Sarin wanted to do.
I started learning (or rather re-learning) the piano about a month ago after a 14 year hiatus as a result of seeing your final stream of ME3 and being reminded of how beautiful its music is. I'm making steady progress and so far it is sounding beautiful :)
This will be a no brainer to some and a "oh wow" for others, but it is interesting exactly how many hints towards the Reapers trying to perfect synthesis there are in the series. In ME2, when it was said that the Collectors over time had overgone many different cybernetic enhancements, its only revealed now that that was one of their attempts at synthesis. Interesting. Then, its assumed throughout ME3 that they Reapers convert the other races to use as shock troops, but after the Catalyst's reveal, one could argue that the actual intent of it was them trying to perfect synthesis using this cycles races and even trying to combine them to succeed... but once failed they just use them as troops to not be wasteful. The synthesis route is arguably the "best of both worlds ending", but moreso than that the most interesting one.
Fun fact: If you choose the "Destroy" ending with over 5000 Effective Military Strength, you get a VERY SPECIAL scene right before the credits (huge possible implications)...
I already watched all of the vods on twitch to see the end of your journey but I just had to come back and support the end of this journey on RUclips as well. Your stream has been one of my favorite play throughs of this series of all time and I can’t wait to see what you do next with Andromeda and Origins and even this trilogy again maybe some day down the road. Possibly before the next mass effect comes out :)
Glenn, thank you! I appreciate all the support and it's been a blast having you on the journey with me! I definitely plan on playing through it again before ME4 :)
Really enjoyed your playthrough! I think the only "wrong" choice in the end is to select something that doesn't fit with what your character would do (or to accidentally shoot the kid, which you almost did!). For my money, you were true to Strawberry Shepard. Thanks for all the entertainment and wish you all the best!
Even though every ending is bittersweet and pisses off a lot of people, I think its perfect for the series and was alluded to many times throughout. At the end of the day, this series showcases life itself in all its glory. There are good times and bad times, we all at one point or another lose people we care about and love, and we all end our lives with death. But the true beauty of life comes from living it. The ending never changes for anyone, so it doesn't mattter. What matters is the journey. The relationships and memories we make along the way. Thats what makes Mass Effect so loved and adored by many, no matter how they feel about the ending on its own. So glad you had the opportunity to join in with the rest of us who have made this trilogy apart of those moments that matter in our lives.
What a great journey we had with you Meg.This game was full of joy and sadness but Shepard died doing what she loved fighting and protecting the people that she cherished the most.😭😭🖤
@@MegMage I have faith that what ever choice you make it will be worthy of your journey. I'm just starting your vid now with only a peek at the progress bar to see a hint of green... LOL Yeah I know the pros & cons of each choice as well...
Did you feel empty? Sad? Not wanting it to end? If so congrats on feeling what I felt the first playthrough, and probably what others felt as well. Its not just a game, its something that will stick with you for the rest of your life. The story is just so good, the music and everything else just perfected it.
& thus an end to the story of strawberry shepard. the commander who fought to the end to accomplish 1 goal. destroy the reapers so that the galaxy can finally know peace. & on the journey made wonderful friends & allies. a fantastic journey it has been. always a pleasure to rewatch these playthroughs & it's always enjoyable ^_^
Bad thing is Shepard AI can turn to a dominating tyrant. You know how the Catalyst was. What's not to Shepard Ai doing the same. But at the same time, Shepard will protect everyone in the galaxy. In any event of these endings, they all have nasty consequences
@@MrSmart199 no, because the reapers/catalyst weren’t controlling Shepard and the catalyst gets replaced by Shepard. Each Reaper just becomes an appendage of Shepard’s mind
@@MrSmart199 but the epilogue makes it clear Shepard is completely in control with different results depending on paragon and renegade. You can pretend the ending is different in your head canon, but the game makes it very clear The reapers are now Shepard and doing Shepard’s will by rebuilding the galaxy and helping people rather than Shepard being indoctrinated
Honestly I was hoping that you would have picked Synthesis. Seems like your train of thought was right but then Twitch chat got in the way haha. But my main reasoning why I couldn't pick Destroy was the fact that The Geth finally achieved true sentience and peace with the Quarians only to have it ripped away by destroying them. Also, It felt really wrong to kill EDI.
This series was amazing. I know people hate the endings but I love how this game ended. I'm really excited for andromeda. (Now if you don't mind I'm gonna be hiding in my room since what I said probably triggered everyone)
I have...Opinions... about the ending but I honestly like Andromeda. It's what I always want from big franchises, a story from the perspective of someone besides the main hero
To answer your question: the child did exist, and died. The Catalyst simply used the image in Shepard's brain to use a form he'd "understand." And the theory that Shepard was indoctrinated is 100% false, confirmed by the devs, and the game itself. The Prothean VI flat out said so, and so did the Catalyst. It was simply a fan-made theory that has a huge following but honestly, the dialogue in-game disproves it. It's almost as if some fans simply cannot accept how the series ended.
Surprised so many people here are defending Synthesis, as it's easily the least popular ending aside from Refuse. Personally I definitely think Destroy is the best option, it's the only way to get rid of the Reapers permanently, and it allows the galaxy to choose it's own future, unlike the other endings.
To this day the Mass Effect trilogy is easily one of my favourite trilogies in any form of media ever. Finished the entire trilogy more times than I like to admit and still I bought the Legendary edition to replay it yet again... And again And again.
Thank you for this amazing playthrough! I throughly enjoyed experiencing the rollercoaster of emotions you went through and it brought back those feelings of my first playthrough. Can’t wait to see your reactions to Andromeda.
Adding: excited to see your Dragon Age too but I’ll have to wait until I play the games, have only just started Origins and still very early. Moments already had me feeling emotions so can’t wait to see how you reacted!
It was really great to watch your playthrough and discover your channel through this! Mass Effect’s been my favourite game since I first played it but hadn’t played it in years so it’s been awesome to go through it all again by living vicariously through your first time reacts to it all. Looking forward to continuing watching and discovering more games with the MegMage clan 🥰
Congratulations you didn’t let the reaper child trick you into keeping the reapers alive in any form. The goal was always getting rid of the reapers. Saren wanted to merge and become one. Illusive man wanted to control. You fought the last ditch effort of them trying to indoctrinate you.
I have been slowly watching my way through your ME experience, and I just wanted to say thanks. It's been a long time since I played these games, I forgot how much of an impact these characters had on me. I can't erase the memories, start fresh, and live the story as if it was new to me, watching your experience with fresh eyes has scratched that itch. From a more personal perspective, I appreciate your willingness to be emotionally expressive on camera, and how much you clearly invested yourself in the characters, I know I shed more than a few tears along the way.
I watched your whole series on this and as a long time ME fan I absolutely loved it. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who cried as much, haha. Thank you for your work! Take care and be safe.
I really enjoyed watching your playthrough and was amazed that you got enough war assets to even unlock synthesis on your first run even if you didn't pick it. For someone who has played this game numerous times and tried all of the endings it was very entertaining to watch a first timer play through it. I personally prefer the Synthesis ending on my paragon shepards, but its mainly because I usually spend so much effort to broker peace between the Geth and Quarians that I want them both to live on.
for me the control the reapers ending makes more sense, Shepard becomes the galaxy protector after sacrificing, the relays will get fix right after so the stranded species won't suffer, unlike the destroy fixing the relays will take some time and in the back on my head is like some of them are suffering isolation, and the synthesis is way to invasive and forcing the whole galaxy to become something against there will is not right, if Mass Effect 5 comes out most likely it will continue from the control, and there's no way in well hell it will continuo from synthesis
Organics will naturally create more and more powerful synthetics after the Reaper conflict. Will Shepard then turn the Reapers against organics to stop them or will Shepard and the Reapers die in the inevitable conflict with future synthetics?
@@Williamlongsword-l2c and thats the reason why there is no good ending. My paragon Shepard chose Control for the first time but after seeing every ending, each ending has both good and bad sides.
Terrific playthrough! Would love to see a totally different male Shep run, as Mark Meer’s voice is nearly as good as Jennifer Hale’s. Also, there are a number of male-exclusive romances that are exceptional as well.
2nd post lol, this one is *after* watching. Not much to say that hasn't already been said, I love Mass Effect, I loved your playthrough and I'm *very* excited to see you play another one of my favourites: Dragon Age Origins! Keep it up and as the big man from another franchise said: "We'll be watching your career with great interest." ;)
i chose synthesis for MELE only to realize i never took the ending in the extended cut. for me it's the best choice because shep's "technically" alive. also, destroy kills not only synthetics but also those with implants.
@@_EllieLOL_ star child says it. "You can wipe out all synthetic life if you want. Including the geth. And most of the technology you rely on. Even you are partly synthetic..." not kill per se but synthetic implants would stop working. and if it's like an artificial heart, then yes, it would kill the person too.
I like Destroy just because my Shepard got to live. I don't have the heart to do the other endings because I promised my LI that I would return to them. I can't leave them alone.
I did everything. And I mean everything. All the choices in Mass Effect 1 & 2 that lead to me getting the most War Assets in ME3, all the side quest in ME3 and I got over 8.1K war assets
3:25:25 Those f*cking flashbacks always break me for some reason. "An End Once and For All" is probably the best part of the soundtrack, at the very least #2.
Fun fact, Major Coats, the guy who talks to Shepard around 1:41:57 is actually a character from the commercials for ME3. He was a sniper who was up in Big Ben I think. He even shares his voice actor with male Hawke from Dragon Age 2!
Congratulations on finishing the trilogy. Saying goodbye to the squad never fails to tear me up. Omg you almost got me worried there when you were joking about shooting the Starchild lol. A lot of arguments can be made for all 3 endings but for what it's worth, the destroy ending is what majority of the players choose and my personal favorite as well. It's been really great watching your LP of this game. You are very entertaining and you were really roleplaying Strawberry when making your decisions. Thank you!
@@fehrlystandardentertainment its what they wanted the geth make their own future not reaper and the conversation with edi state that the reapers need to be destroyed and she would sacrifice herself to do so
It's sad that you have to preface your video with that. You did great, better that most on their first playthru IMO. The whole point of mass effect and RPGs like these is that we're all supposed to have different experiences. The conversation that we make from our varying differences is what made the community.
I played through the series for the first time almost 6-7 years ago and I haven’t found a game that has impacted me anywhere near as much as Mass Effect has. I recently introduced it to my sister and played through it with her, and I’ll say watching someone experience it for the first time is as close as I’ve come to that “first playthrough” feeling. Remember there are always replays, either as Strawberry or your Male Shepard :) Wanted to thank you for your playthroughs on Mass Effect, from one new Mass Effect fan to another, and looking forward to more of your content! Really liking your Spiderman series as well! :) As a request, if you haven't seen it already, will you be doing a reaction to the Next Mass Effect Teaser Trailer? Now that you're done the Trilogy you don't have to worry about seeing potential spoilers. Keelah Se'Lai!
Lot of emotions and many tears shed after finishing the trilogy As for the endings, it mainly depends on how you roleplay your character. And a fun fact about the starchild, if you play a femshep his voice will have both the child and broshep voice intertwined (and vice versa if you play broshep) And on a side note, if you want to check the different outcomes and many hidden dialogues/choices/characters interaction, I strongly recommend you to go check Big Dan Gaming channel
It was really fun watching your journey throughout the entire series! Don't be discouraged by people criticizing your choice at the end, it's basically guaranteed that 2/3 prefer another ending than yours. I personally TRIED to do the destroy ending but everytime I reached the ending I remembered that EDI and the Geth would die if I did. I also didn't want to rob everyone of their individuality so I always end up with the control ending xD Anyways thanks a lot for this :)
That was a great journey, i loved seeing your reaction. BTW, if you wanted Shepard to service, you need at least 7800 in war assets. you basically have to complete every assignment, every DLC, every mission before starting the last two missions (Cerberus base and final mission), and scan every planet and every star system, and choose the destroy ending
I thought for sure you were going to go with Synthesis, I was very surprised you went with and committed to Destroy. I think it’s definitely the right decision, though certainly a tough one to make. Loved your play through, some wonderful reactions all throughout.
@@bvishal2kn is it though? I mean, control is obviously the most outright evil, as you’re forcing people to still live in fear of the Reapers as the dominant force in the galaxy. Synthesis is far too close to what the Reapers want, and even the AI says “it’s not something that can be forced” even though that’s exactly what you’re doing if you choose it. Destroy sucks because of losing EDI and the Geth, but sacrifices must be made. It’s no different than letting the Alliance sacrifice a large swath of their fleet to save the Council.
@@TheAKDMF447 Committing Genocide on an entire form of life & Consciousness in the universe is obviously the Outright most evil thing. Destroy is the best choice for anti-synthetic renegade players. If you played paragon you probably spent 3 games forging peace between Synthetics & Organics, Geth are also revealed to be innocent who were just protecting themself in ME3. You also spend all of ME3 teaching humanity to EDI. All of those choices for the past 3 games become pointless If you choose to destroy. The main point of Mass Effect seems to be about how Organics & Synthetics need to get along. Also the problem isn't solved, the Same thing will continue to happen. Synthetics will be created again & the problem arises again as the catalyst mentions.
I enjoyed so much your journey with this franchise, I discovered you through it and I'm happy you fell in love with it like I did back in the day. Can't wait for your Dragon Age series!!
The Luna VI was a side quest in ME1 where all these drones were attacking you. If you did that then Shepard would’ve spoken with first hand knowledge instead of “I heard about.”
As always, you have to play the game how you want to. Take no notice of those who criticise, they are just voices in the void. Myself, I will not kill the reapers as I refuse to leave Jeff without EDI nor destroy Legions legecy to the Geth and the Quarians. Well done on getting so emotionly involved. Can't think of another game that hits this hard. Keela S'lai.
I found Control to the only sensible choice in my play through, because Shep had fought hard for AIs right to exist, both Geth & EDI, which rules out destruction. And Synthesis is morally objectionable as what right do you have to fundamentally alter all living things without giving them a choice (plus everyone glows green in the final cutscene, which looks dumb).
Same, I always prefer to "sacrifice" Shepard so he/she can control the old machines and use them for good instead of bad. The only downside to this in my opinion is that Shepard is immortalized in an ascended form, and if anyone deserves a break it's Shepard...I like to think Shepard took a page from Mordin's book in this ending, "had to be me" That's why Shepard is the ultimate hero. Except that one time I accidentally shot the pistol Shepard was holding and it automatically gave me the "continue the cycle" ending which is the absolute worst ending in all video game history ever.
I didn't see anyone else mention it, so I will. The old man speaking to the child at the very end, the Stargazer, is voiced by Buzz Aldrin. If you don't know who Buzz Aldrin is, the short version is he accompanied Neil Armstrong on the first walk on the moon, making Aldrin the 2nd to do so. Yes, Buzz Lightyear is named after him. The name Shepard was chosen by Bioware in reference to Alan Shepard, one of the first 7 astronauts selected by NASA and the first American launched into space. He was supposed to be the first human launched into space but the Soviets launched Yuri Gagarin preemptively. Bioware included little nods to many astronauts, cosmonauts, astronomers, and physicists throughout the trilogy.
Two things you should look out for with the extended Destroy ending: Liara didn't put up Shepard's name (Shepard's still alive) And Normandy can still fly at the end (EDI survives, because she's integral to the ship from the start)
I think most of the fanbase fights over destroy vs synthesize and rightly so, control IMO is not a reliable solution easily the worst of the 3 but it’s still a tough choice.
Good play through. I prefer the Synthesis ending myself. Got to keep EDI alive and the geth. I did the defiance ending once which was different. The destroy one not for me the control one is god as well.
For those who chose Synthesis. Broke: choosing Synthesis because (almost) everyone lives. Woke: choosing Synthesis in order to merge both synthetic and organic lives. Bespoke: choosing Synthesis so that Joker can smash EDI without breaking a bone.
YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYES, so few people I've watched chose destroy... People have to choose their future for themselves, Control, allowing the reapers to continue after wiping out so many civilizations is unjust, Synthesize forces your will on all civilization, its a violation of will, and also allows the reapers to live. Destroy was the only option for me.
I wish you would’ve chosen an ending - and by extension - made all the big choices in this game without looking at the chat. The whole point of an RPG is to play the game how you want to play it. Make choices either based on your own morals or based on a character you’ve created for yourself and see how they affect the story being told. That’s the best way to do a first playthrough because you can feel the most genuine connection with the world around you. If your choices are influenced by other people, it taints that feeling… makes it seem like they chose for you.
Agreed. I was really disappointed when they started feeding her with the usual Destroy buzzwords and Indoctrination Theory BS. I certainly don't mind either but trying to sway her to their decision and not letting her think about it herself is an asshole move.
Joker taking the effort to get out of his chair to salute the commander even with his condition. Just hits right in the feels man. The Mass Effect Triolgy is the best rivaled by only The Witcher and Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2
Thank you for all the kind comments so far. 🥰
I'm playing dragon age origins right now since it been so long and I want to remember what is going on on your playthrough
There's an ending where Shep lives
The final interaction with Garrus is my favorite in the entire series. Whether you romance him or he's your bff, Garrus is a real one
"There's no Shepard without Vakarian"
I play as a Paragon Shepard but damn that renegade choice for Kai Leng is a must. I always choose that.
much like life, you are not always 100% of either, but parts of them.
@@Kratosx23 We need that extra satisfaction of shattering that stupid sword.
Even Paragon Sheps hit that interrupt with the fist of an angry god.
Yeah and this way he doesn’t destroy a perfectly good monitor
BTW if your war assets are really low, the game REALLY recommends you don’t continue. And if you do go through with low war assets, the kid will be like wtf are you doing here, and you will only get one choice (two if you count rejection) based on whether you kept or destroyed the Collector Base in Mass Effect 2.
omg 🤣

The empty feeling after the first time you finished this game...
Congrats on finishing one of the most epic Space Opera ever created.

@@Paehrin well, that is a roleplay 👍
I wholeheartedly agree ❤
I would agree if ME3 wasn't such a mess, shame it was rushed.
@@treemu I love your points but those threads ignored in ME2 ARE the problem:
A/K were relegated to a cameo role when they should have had another scene where we either broke off or made them look like idiots for falling for TIM plan, Bioware forgot about the Reapers until Arrival and even that was hastly created, there needed to be a mission that it is Shepard going to the Council after dealing with the Collectors (could be tied to the A/K meeting) and we told them what transpired (Get, Collectors, how they were all duped by TIM, etc).
It's been great to watch a whole new galaxy of people kick the reapers right in their weird cockroachy butts.
thank you so much 🥰
Space cuttlefish

Fun fact; The Stargazer at the end is voiced by Buzz Aldrin

Yeah i just learned they raised them again.
I gasped so hard when you pointed the gun at the kid.... lol
You can also get the refusal ending via dialogue with the catalyst. Shepard’s speech in that one is pretty epic even if it means death for everyone.
Shooting the kid in the head also triggers that ending, even more epic
The first ending I ever got was that one because I wanted to see what happened if I shot the kid 😭😂
@@Danteztic there’s more than just glowing eyes. If you look closing you’ll notice subtle green circuitry flowing through everyone’s bodies as well 😜

Such a great trilogy. Definitely one that is worth playing a million times
With how she masterfully evaded that Breath part, I would say she was trolling us.
All the fleets fighting together will forever be my favourite scene in the entire franchise. Nothing will top that.
I started learning (or rather re-learning) the piano about a month ago after a 14 year hiatus as a result of seeing your final stream of ME3 and being reminded of how beautiful its music is. I'm making steady progress and so far it is sounding beautiful :)
this makes me SO happy!
One consolation I've always had about Shep's death is that, if Miranda survived, we've already seen her come back from worse
Fun fact: If you choose the "Destroy" ending with over 5000 Effective Military Strength, you get a VERY SPECIAL scene right before the credits (huge possible implications)...
If you thought that sex scene was explicit… wait till you see Andromeda’s.
Came mostly for your reaction to Tali and Garrus… seeing as how you didn’t romance either of them.
Worth it.
I always destroy but all endings have a trade off and people will complain no matter what you choose lol.
It is the only option i can choose. I really hate Synthesis and control had no guarantee of me not becoming the next evil caralyst in the future.
"That was for Thane, you son of a bitch!" What a delivery by Jennifer Hale, the best voice actor in the whole trilogy.
RIP EDI and the Geth
Really enjoyed your playthrough! I think the only "wrong" choice in the end is to select something that doesn't fit with what your character would do (or to accidentally shoot the kid, which you almost did!). For my money, you were true to Strawberry Shepard. Thanks for all the entertainment and wish you all the best!
If you spent 3 games forging peace between geth & organic also teaching humanity to edi!
Only to wipe them all out!
Kinda pointless
I have a feeling Strawberry and Rick (my Shepard) would be best friends! Watching her journey was amazing!
I agree! :D thank you so much!
What a great journey we had with you Meg.This game was full of joy and sadness but Shepard died doing what she loved fighting and protecting the people that she cherished the most.😭😭🖤
Thank you Joshua 😭
@@MegMage I have faith that what ever choice you make it will be worthy of your journey.
I'm just starting your vid now with only a peek at the progress bar to see a hint of green... LOL Yeah I know the pros & cons of each choice as well...
I think she/he's not dead yet we'll see in next Mass Effect
@@khalidmohhamad9546 I hope so if Shepard is not in the next Mass Effect game I’m not playing it.
Did you feel empty? Sad? Not wanting it to end? If so congrats on feeling what I felt the first playthrough, and probably what others felt as well. Its not just a game, its something that will stick with you for the rest of your life. The story is just so good, the music and everything else just perfected it.
I didn't realize scanning was so important to maxing out war assets. Something to keep in mind for my future playthroughs.
Thank you for encouraging me to play Mass Effect, dear Shin
Control is the best ending in my opinion. Shepard becomes a god, EDI survives and the relays are easily rebuilt, what's not to like?
Bad thing is Shepard AI can turn to a dominating tyrant. You know how the Catalyst was. What's not to Shepard Ai doing the same. But at the same time, Shepard will protect everyone in the galaxy. In any event of these endings, they all have nasty consequences
Control ending is the reapers getting what they want
@@MrSmart199 no, because the reapers/catalyst weren’t controlling Shepard and the catalyst gets replaced by Shepard. Each Reaper just becomes an appendage of Shepard’s mind
@@ChrisRowe control is what the reapers offered the illusive man and saren and they clearly lied to them both
@@MrSmart199 but the epilogue makes it clear Shepard is completely in control with different results depending on paragon and renegade. You can pretend the ending is different in your head canon, but the game makes it very clear The reapers are now Shepard and doing Shepard’s will by rebuilding the galaxy and helping people rather than Shepard being indoctrinated
Man that last scene with Anderson is so heart wrenching
It's what I always want from big franchises, a story from the perspective of someone besides the main hero
well u kinda did dude, but thats ur call)))
To answer your question: the child did exist, and died. The Catalyst simply used the image in Shepard's brain to use a form he'd "understand." And the theory that Shepard was indoctrinated is 100% false, confirmed by the devs, and the game itself. The Prothean VI flat out said so, and so did the Catalyst. It was simply a fan-made theory that has a huge following but honestly, the dialogue in-game disproves it. It's almost as if some fans simply cannot accept how the series ended.
Like Leviathan "Your mind gives voice to our words" that's why if you listen close you here male and female Shepard's voice within The Catalyst.
Surprised so many people here are defending Synthesis, as it's easily the least popular ending aside from Refuse. Personally I definitely think Destroy is the best option, it's the only way to get rid of the Reapers permanently, and it allows the galaxy to choose it's own future, unlike the other endings.
Given the leviathan DLC, most likely that will end up being the new threat after the reapers got destroyed. So all that work for nothing
To this day the Mass Effect trilogy is easily one of my favourite trilogies in any form of media ever.
Finished the entire trilogy more times than I like to admit and still I bought the Legendary edition to replay it yet again...
And again
And again.
sad face edi is gone in this timeline of masseffect
You do know that he's the one who gives you choice , if not they would have end our cycle right there
She did Anderson proud.
RIP Marauder Shields. You've tried so hard to protect us from endings.
I felt the same way when I finished the entire series. Such a bitter sweet moment I really connected with this game on so many levels.
There’s always ME 4 coming
@@blitzphantom9488 yeah I'm excited for that
@@quavehiphop9152 it’s a long ways away but I’m excited too.
I watched your whole series on this and as a long time ME fan I absolutely loved it. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who cried as much, haha. Thank you for your work! Take care and be safe.
🥰❤️
Watching you play Mass Effect has been a real treat. Brings back memories of me playing these games for the first time. Awesome stuff!
Glad you chose destroy, the perfect ending for strawberry saga
BB. Expect for the fact that shepherd is dead because she didn't get enough war points
@@blackfrieza1912 as it should be, Shepard surviving after all that is ridiculous
Shepard survives because she is Shepard. Simple 😁
@@acegren2489 Shepard would have survived, if she didn’t stood that close to the fucking explosion
@@blackfrieza1912
I wonder if it was a glitch? War assets were lowered big time.
for me the control the reapers ending makes more sense, Shepard becomes the galaxy protector after sacrificing, the relays will get fix right after so the stranded species won't suffer, unlike the destroy fixing the relays will take some time and in the back on my head is like some of them are suffering isolation, and the synthesis is way to invasive and forcing the whole galaxy to become something against there will is not right, if Mass Effect 5 comes out most likely it will continue from the control, and there's no way in well hell it will continuo from synthesis
AWWWWW 😭
It brought me great joy to return to this beloved series by experiencing it through the eyes of another on their first playthrough. Thank you!
i chose synthesis for MELE only to realize i never took the ending in the extended cut. for me it's the best choice because shep's "technically" alive. also, destroy kills not only synthetics but also those with implants.
Wait what when does it say it kills everyone with implants
I thought it killed any synthetic with sapience
@@_EllieLOL_ star child says it.
"You can wipe out all synthetic life if you want. Including the geth. And most of the technology you rely on.
Even you are partly synthetic..."
not kill per se but synthetic implants would stop working. and if it's like an artificial heart, then yes, it would kill the person too.
@@jaives People seem to glaze over this fact. Just imagine the quarians without working exosuits. You'd probably kill them off.
Thank you!
The destroy ending sucks because it kills edi and the geth...and you pull at effort in to save them
@@fehrlystandardentertainment its what they wanted the geth make their own future not reaper and the conversation with edi state that the reapers need to be destroyed and she would sacrifice herself to do so
I wonder what Sheperd's doing to Harbinger if the Control ending is picked
A S S U M I N G D I R E C T C O N T R O L
Galactic Janitor for sure
It's sad that you have to preface your video with that. You did great, better that most on their first playthru IMO. The whole point of mass effect and RPGs like these is that we're all supposed to have different experiences. The conversation that we make from our varying differences is what made the community.
I played through the series for the first time almost 6-7 years ago and I haven’t found a game that has impacted me anywhere near as much as Mass Effect has. I recently introduced it to my sister and played through it with her, and I’ll say watching someone experience it for the first time is as close as I’ve come to that “first playthrough” feeling. Really enjoyed your series, Keelah Se’lai!
Garrus is the best bromance.
It does feel like having your heart ripped out when finishing this, but you did a great job! Remember there are always replays, either as Strawberry or your Male Shepard :)
Wanted to thank you for your playthroughs on Mass Effect, from one new Mass Effect fan to another, and looking forward to more of your content! Really liking your Spiderman series as well! :)
As a request, if you haven't seen it already, will you be doing a reaction to the Next Mass Effect Teaser Trailer? Now that you're done the Trilogy you don't have to worry about seeing potential spoilers. Keelah Se'Lai!
Lot of emotions and many tears shed after finishing the trilogy
As for the endings, it mainly depends on how you roleplay your character.
And a fun fact about the starchild, if you play a femshep his voice will have both the child and broshep voice intertwined (and vice versa if you play broshep)
And on a side note, if you want to check the different outcomes and many hidden dialogues/choices/characters interaction, I strongly recommend you to go check Big Dan Gaming channel
I also didn't want to rob everyone of their individuality so I always end up with the control ending xD
Anyways thanks a lot for this :)
Before the movie Endgame, this is the original endgame before the endgame
Thought instead i'd shoot the Catalyst talking to me...and that ended the game haha
I thought for sure you were going to go with Synthesis, I was very surprised you went with and committed to Destroy. I think it’s definitely the right decision, though certainly a tough one to make. Loved your play through, some wonderful reactions all throughout.
Destroy is a terrible choice!
For paragon player
@@bvishal2kn is it though? I mean, control is obviously the most outright evil, as you’re forcing people to still live in fear of the Reapers as the dominant force in the galaxy. Synthesis is far too close to what the Reapers want, and even the AI says “it’s not something that can be forced” even though that’s exactly what you’re doing if you choose it. Destroy sucks because of losing EDI and the Geth, but sacrifices must be made. It’s no different than letting the Alliance sacrifice a large swath of their fleet to save the Council.
@@TheAKDMF447
Committing Genocide on an entire form of life & Consciousness in the universe is obviously the Outright most evil thing.
Marauder Shields tried to save us from the ending. RIP.
He will always be remembered
I enjoyed so much your journey with this franchise, I discovered you through it and I'm happy you fell in love with it like I did back in the day. Can't wait for your Dragon Age series!!
Holy mother of life a 4 hour video!! I don’t mind just like whoa Lol
The Luna VI was a side quest in ME1 where all these drones were attacking you. If you did that then Shepard would’ve spoken with first hand knowledge instead of “I heard about.”
one of the best lines in the series...
"You did good child, I'm Proud of you....."
Shepard: "I'll be back, and I'll bring every fleet I can!"
Anderson at 1:24:14 : (O.O)
As always, you have to play the game how you want to. Take no notice of those who criticise, they are just voices in the void. Myself, I will not kill the reapers as I refuse to leave Jeff without EDI nor destroy Legions legecy to the Geth and the Quarians. Well done on getting so emotionly involved. Can't think of another game that hits this hard. Keela S'lai.
Awesome playthrough. Your reaction to the "Shiara" love scene was priceless XD
Two things you should look out for with the extended Destroy ending:
Liara didn't put up Shepard's name (Shepard's still alive)
And Normandy can still fly at the end (EDI survives, because she's integral to the ship from the start)
The destroy one not for me the control one is god as well.
the same here Paul. The same here, even controll is better than this ending :(
"I can control them!" - Illusive Man 2186
"I... Tried, Shepard..." - Jack Harper 2186
Damn I didn’t know ppl had a problem with the synthesis option, I thought it was the best one.
Must hate Taynor. Talks to everyone before going to Earth but Samantha Traynor.
Joker taking the effort to get out of his chair to salute the commander even with his condition. Just hits right in the feels man. The Mass Effect Triolgy is the best rivaled by only The Witcher and Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2
