- Recent reports suggest Brie Larson is disillusioned with her role as Captain Marvel and intends to step down from the role after The Marvels releases, but how true is it, and what led to this?
MCU Phases 4 and 5 are just a bunch of random convoluted side quests after completing the main campaign.
At least skyrim radiant quests arent as tedious as MCU
And it's like a worse Fallout 3, where the writers didn't plan to have you survive the ending, so there's a lot of handwaving and little meaningful interaction with the storyline.

The next Marvel movie is about looking for a lost cow while armed with end game gear.
Considering they had to have Thor actually say “I like this one” to try and convince us, it was never going to happen.
it's interesting because if they'd actually built that up and went somewhere with that, there's a way it could've worked. Like he never worked out with Jane Foster because they were too different, but in Carol he finds an equal. For her, Thor could be the first man outside Fury who acknowledges her strength of might and spirit and doesn't discount her for her gender
Don't know or care if it'd be comic accurate but they could have become the Stark/Pepper power couple of the second generation of Avengers. But that'd require the Marvel writers room to have an ounce of respect for Thor as a character and a willingness to make Carol vulnerable and relatable. Fat chance in this age

@@TS6815 exactly. Instead its just completely superficial writing. Thor says it for no reason, motivated by nothing, with no justification. It comes out of nowhere.
Tony also says something similar earlier in that same scene. But its sort of under his breath as hes ranting at cap. So it's easy to miss.
At least for him it make some sense because she saved his life. But even that is coincidental. She just shows up. She isnt shown putting in any work to try to find him. She just has ultimate powers and because she has those powers shes able to just find them. So it doesnt feel earnt as of we saw he show up on earth, do some investigating, go to the titan homeworld, spend time trying to find hem, interspliced with the scenes of tony and nebula on the ship.
And its especially awkward because none of these character really compliment each other in this way at all in amy other movies. Most of the time theyre conflicted against each other and dissagreeing all the time. Then suddenly two do it in one scene about the same character.
It was so blatant.
To treat people like garbage and then expect them to support you is pure narcissism. Unfortunately, narcissism is rampant in this world nowadays.

I recently watched the Infinity Saga with my wife. It was her first time.
She has loved almost all of the movies and characters. We skipped Captain Marvel, Black Panther, and Ant-man since those movies and characters didn't play a major role in the last Avengers movies, but we are watching Ant-man and Black Panther now.
When we watched End Game and Captain Marvel came on screen to save Tony and then flew him back to earth she was a little shocked and curious. Then Captain Marvel opened her mouth and disrespected the other Avengers and claimed she had protected thousands of worlds single-handedly. And that curiosity turned to anger with my wife saying, "who the f*** does this bitch think she is?"
Then Thor dropped his, "I like this one" line and she balked, "Why?!"
My wife has loved all of the female characters in the infinity saga, but Captain Marvel was so unlikable that the only reason she continued End Game was because I told her that she only appeared in 10% of the movie. And yes, she hated the fact that Captain Marvel almost single handedly stopped Thanos. It was unearned.
Ant man and black panther did kind of play a huge role in those endgame movies but.
Not that I care.
The technology created in those movies played a big role in the outcome.
What’s crazy to me is that they rushed Captain Marvel movie when they had been planning to use the spot her movie was in for a Nova movie. Apparently we were going to see the destruction of the nova planet that was in GotG1 and see one Nova remaining. Making End Game his revenge story and he would’ve been the one to destroy the ship instead.

The Thor line does make sense. Thor values strength and confidence, and arrogance.
Thor is a better character than Captain Marvel, but he would see a reflection of himself in her, as he is confident, arrogant and frankly quite the narcissist.
Just a quick lesson I learned as filmmaker early on:
With casting actors I learned that they’ll say whatever to get the part and to keep the part once they have it. When I was still in college and casting for my senior film, when I first began having casting reads, I provided a an irrelevant shit script. I wrote something nebulous and stupid. After each reading I asked the actors how they felt about it and damn near everyone of them made up some bullshit about what it meant and said that it was brilliant. Only one actor didn’t and even though she didn’t get the part, I brought her on as a script supervisor. Ultimately you shouldn’t trust what an actor says, whether theyre at the bottom or top of their game. It’s almost always just shit.
its a zero sum game right? or are they volunteering? its not like they are going to give it away for free or they would be president of the studio themselves. actors should be writers and writers should be actors. and the reader? the audience? should be no one.
The only reason the first Captain Marvel was such a massive box office hit, was because it came out right before Avengers Endgame and it was heavily implied by Marvel that you had to watch the Captain Marvel film before Endgame for continuity.
If they had not tricked audiences, the movie would have not made as much money.
And the tickets bought that nobody turned up to use?
It wasn't a billion dollar movie even with Endgame's help!

I was there opening day for Alita Battle Angel. Same time and theater. An almost full theater with about 10% empty seats. Literally the opposite.

The thing is, Brie was actually perfect casting because Carol Danvers is a toxic person in the comics as well. The movie actually toned down how unlikeable her character is.

Beyond the messy plot, Civil War II was unbearable in large part to her character.
I'd have gone for a bloke. The terrible art in the comics has strongly suggested Captain Marvel is transgender, hence 'Carl Manvers'.
My favourites were the pig nose phase and when they drew her as Silent Bob.
Explains why the comics failed, Civil War was just unbearable with her front and center.

Brie Larson in Scott Pilgrim was amazing. Her cover of Black Sheep was honestly near perfect. She used to be well liked by the general audience. And she definitely CAN sing very well.

Yeah, Brie isn't the only actress who played very well in SPvTW, and look what happened to them. ME Winstead now plays Hera Syndulla and Alison Pill had to play Annoying Lady in Star Trek: Picard. A generation of talented actresses is being burnt up by writers who believe an agenda must be pushed, but the outcome is the exact opposite of they intended. Turns out bad writers are even worse social engineers.
It's hard to engage the audience when the actor is openly antagonistic, and the character has nothing to latch onto other than "she's the strongest"...

I always say this with my friends when she comes up in conversation. I blame the writers for not liking Captain Marvel, and I blame Brie Larson for not liking Brie Larson.
I don’t need to like the actor to enjoy the on-screen character, but if you come off wrong in interviews, that’s on you.
I think on of the primary differences between RDJ and BREEE is their sense of 'grace'. RDJ screwed things up and knows it, but he got a chance he maybe didn't deserve so now he's just happy to have fans at all. BREEE sees things from almost the opposite point of view: she's (falsely) convinced she deserved vastly more than she's gotten, and is very upset with all of us and the universe as a whole for not bringing it all to her.
I have no sympathy for Brie. I *would* have sympathy if she was a nice person and just got cast as a badly written and unlikable protagonist (like Hayden Christensen was unfairly blamed for how bad Anakin was), but she showed utter contempt for the genre's target audience with toxic comments that were both baseless and uncalled for.
You take that back, Anakin was a great character with some slightly cringe dialog.

I do feel a bit bad for her, since her toxic behavior mostly comes from her being a very insecure person. She probably thought that being in the MCU would be great for her character, as its been for most of the actresses who have appeared in it. I know she was very happy about being cast as Captain Marvel, I remember her saying that she was really exited about having been given the chance to inspire young girls. Then to receive this amount of flak (and from some people; hate and harassment) would be thought for anyone, now imagine how it must be for someone who's extremely insecure.
The stupid things that she said is obviously her own fault, but the embarrassing pro-feminism "we need to stand up against bad men" way that the movie tried to do female empowerment and the way the media hijacked the film to push politics, and the anti-woke community taking the bait, is not her fault. Brie is (to a large extent) a victim of the culture war, as both sides used her to push their agenda, she wouldn't be nearly as hated if they hadn't. This is another reason for why I feel bad for her. As someone who struggles a lot with insecurities myself (but handles it in a much better way than Brie Larson), I want her to overcome her insecurities and become a better person, and all this online hatred is only gonna make that harder for her to do.
Whenever other actresses (like Jennifer Lawrence) has said stupid shit, it been forgotten about after a while, because it wasn't hijacked by the culture war in the same way. Brie not playing the Captain Marvel character anymore would probably be for the better, but I'm not sure that she would be able to accept that playing Captain Marvel was a failure for her.
I actually like Brie Larson as a actress but I just think they’ve given her good material on the projects she’s been in, I mean they could’ve given any actress that role and it still would’ve fell flat.
The Captain marvel movie should have been released in phase four.

But the Black Widow movie Disney did make was utter garbage.
On one hand you have someone like Brie and on the other you have someone like Cavil.
One feels like the audience owes her while the other is just so passionate in playing the character that it is oozing out of him.
I think you've somewhat hit the nail on the head there.
Hollywood's big issue at the moment is that they are dead set on pushing the actors to show this image that IT want's people to accept when in actual fact, what makes a movie star likable is their ability to make us believe in and appreciate the characters that they portray on film and then when they do a good job, not let it go to their heads when it goes wrong.
Using Cavil as an example, not all of his movies have been brilliant, there are a couple of stinkers out there however, despite that he hasn't lashed out at movie goers as them being the issue and so doesn't go after them. He takes it on the chin and carries on because he just does his best to provide as good a performance as he can fitting to that character (and many would say that even if the movie he's in turns out bad, he's still the best part of that movie as a result of that and will continue to watch his movies) and that's what people like about him, his commitment to tell a good story through his character.
Larson and many people like her, on the other hand, rather than showing humility in their work, place the blame at the feet of the movie goers when their movie doesn't pan out. Essentially attacking the people who pay her salary or at least enable her to command her salary with movie studios, something they somehow lose site of repeatedly, then wonder why no one likes them and stop going to see anything they're involved in.
You can say the same about Scarlett J, and quite a few others as well. By and large, the Marvel ensemble has been made up of extremely likable, game performers, which makes her failure in that regard that much more distracting.

Brie Larson's Captain Marvel sequel is a huge flop losing 237 million, the worst flop ever for Disney.
Disney is stunned after less than 40% of women bought tickets to The Marvels a clear sign something is terribly wrong with MCU.

Thanos wasn't even the best multi arc Avenger storyline in comics. There was the Skull/Kree war, The Michael Saga, Kang Dynasty, Secret Wars and Civil War. They only touched on Civil War which could have been good for a few years.
@@blacksnk I mean, yeah. But as of right now, they've already fumbled the Skrull plotlines and Kang. I would've loved to have seen Planet Hulk and Worldbreaker Hulk, but they've even screwed *that* up already with Thor Ragnarok and smart Hulk.
I promise after Endgame when Feige said, "we have stories for the next 10 years." I was genuinely overjoyed. I thought about X-MEN, I thought about finally getting a good Fantastic Four movie, who will play Doctor Doom, etc. To get this and get told you're a bad person for not liking it sucks.
My main issue has been escalation.
Every movie has to have some world-ending cataclysm. Each is equivalent to Luke starting _A New Hope_ on Tatooine, and by the end of the movie he's killed the Emperor. Where do you take the story now?
How does Shang-Chi grow as a character now that he's defeated an inter-dimensional soul eater?
How does nobody talk about the giant alien body jutting out of the planet that absolutely has altered the interior structure?
Why is Kang so dangerous when arguably the two most powerful versions have both been defeated relatively easily?

I was a big Marvel Comics fan when I was growing up in the 70s and 80s. My favorite was Iron Man and I was so enthralled with the "Demon in a Bottle" story arc. It humanized a guy that was supposed to have everything; brains, money, women, etc. Can you imagine Disney doing something like that with one of it's female characters? I see this as their issue, none of the female characters have flaws to work through. They don't grow as a character. They could, Fox did it with the female characters in their X-Men movies.
Exactly. Female characters aren't the problem. The problem is that they aren't writing *good* female characters. Which is especially sad when you realize that characters like She Hulk were actually quite charming in the comics (imo), but are just plain insufferable in the MCU.

Now on Disney, she is just BETTER. And for no reason, no training, no development, no experience, and no reason for being better.
My first issue of Iron Man was #97. 'Demon in a Bottle' was awesome. That whole period with Layton etc was peak Iron Man, IMO.

Having followed the MCU since the beginning and some of the news about the actors/actresses I do remember that Brie was supposed to be the next Iron Man. In the original MCU I would argue it was largely focused around Iron Man and Captian America. She certainly signed up to be the leader after end game, and probably didn't realize that she could destroy the role so easily with one comment. I think if you go back in time and stop her from saying the comment about men, people don't look into the body language of people around her, they maybe brush off the tom cruise comment etc etc.
It started with the first comment and snowballed because she didn't come out and just apologized to the fans. That comment also made it obvious that there was a shift in the stories, not because it made sense, to push the agenda. It really is the start of everything tanking.
Her movie could have been developed longer.
Compare it to Capitan America (1st one). Small framed man, eveyone pities him, looks down on him and doubts him. Instead of shamung them or ranting, the character is given immense power and proves he's a good person, a hero, by what he does with that gift.

Did you see "Room"? She was brilliant in it. She can act, but the Captain Marvel film and her public comments derailed everything.
The Captain Marvel thing was fumbled by everyone involved:
-First Brie Larson who had kind of a girl next door persona came out like a bitter college feminist who has the dumbest opinions you ever met. Just seething angry if you had a different opinion of her and generally unlikable.
-Then they introduce this new character as the most powerful avenger 1 month before the finale that took 10 years to build up.
-Then Marvel just starts attacking their fans who don't like her calling them all misogynists.
-Then the Captain Marvel movie itself sucks and was so clearly an orchestrated cash grab by implying you wouldn't understand the final chapter of the most interesting and fun storyline in movies in maybe 30 years if you didn't see it.
Everything here turns fans against the franchise and they managed to do it all in a matter of months.

For me there was absolutely no reason introducing Cpt Marvel when we should have gotten a Black Widow spy thriller, considering what happened to BW in End Game!

As someone who was completely put off by her interview persona but also thought the movie was kind of mid... why would you walk away from this role? Even if the movies are terrible, sign in, collect your paycheck and go home. Ignore the internet and it all goes away... and if anyone complains just say hey... i didn't write the story. boom. You're done.
Can you imagine Emily Blunt or Katee sackoff in that role? Even as terribly written as the character was, either one of them would have at least been able to pull off the “tough but vulnerable” thing they were trying to go for. Either one of them would have been far more likeable. But no, they went with Brie

I think they would have been more likable, but the role was still terrible. Just horribly directed and they had no idea what they were doing with the character.
Natalie Dormer would have been perfect for the role, she looks the part, she's an actually decent actor, and she's absolutely gorgeous
Nah, wouldn't make any difference. The Marvel writers clearly don't know what to do with the Captain Marvel character. That tough but vulnerable it's the writer's thing, any actress played the role but with same shitty script wouldn't make any difference. It's still a terrible role 🤷
I remember it was reported that Timothy Chalamet said that a fellow well known actor told him to avoid superhero films like the plague. In fact, actors are now going out their way to not do superhero films because their momentum killers for actors on the rise. The character you're playing will always be more famous than yourself.

I remember Chris Evans had a pretty good performance in "Street Kings" with Keanu Reeves. Was basically a movie about dirty cops who are isolated to a squad that handles the nastiest crimes.
IMO, it's an underrated movie, but either way, Evans was pretty solid. Probably gonna be difficult to shed the Captain America image right away. Then again, Matthew McConaughey made his money doing rom-coms and then went on to do some pretty cool movies. 2 for the Money, The Lincoln Lawyer, True Detective, Mud.... and lest we forget his role in Tropic Thunder.
I don't think that's true. When people see Robert Downey JR, he is Iron Man and Chris Evans is Captain America. No other actor will ever be more famous than them in those roles; at the very least it would take a monumentally phenomenal performance to do so.
That may have been true back in the 70s and such with the dinner Superman movies but it's not really true today. Most of the big names in the MCU have successful projects outside of their superhero roles. Ranging from high budget TV series to Netflix movies to other Hollywood theatrical releases.
Getting type cast to a specific character doesn't happen much anymore.
The only superhero Chalamet could play is Stick Boy
Carol Danvers, Nick Fury, Captain Mar-Vell, the Kree Empire and the Skrulls and their Secret Invasion are all better handled by Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes animated show.
Kang got better handled in that cartoon as well.

I think Baggage Claim (sorry, don't know her name) is correct. Brie let the role go to her head and has now learned the hard way, that attacking the hand that feeds (all of us) is the worst decision any actor/actress could make. I don't believe it's going to get any better for her if she leaves either.
Same with Rachel Zeglrr. She's going to fall fast before she even gets any real time in movies.
There was a movie that I wanted to see, but none of my friends ever saw it. I usually don't like seeing a movie alone. I decided to make an exception. It had been out a while, but I still saw posters for the film, when I had visited the theater not long ago. HOWEVER, when I decided to look online, to see times and showings, I noticed that every theater was showing Captain Marvel. I tried checking other cinemas, and it was the same case - even for farther away cinemas. Every theater in every cinema was showing Captain Marvel. I had heard stories, but I didn't believe it, until I saw it myself. The movie I wanted to see (on another page) wasn't due to be removed, until the following week, but there was no way to see it. Maybe, the Captain Marvel did well, but there were some unusual circumstances working in its favor.
The change in Brie's (perceived) character that Baggage Claim talked about reminded me of something Gwyneth Paltrow once told: when her "star started to rise", her dad (Bruce Paltrow) took her to the side and told her "You know, you're turning into a bit of an asshole". And she (or someone else, but I think it was Gwyneth in the same interview) also said that the weird thing with fame and success if that at some point, at some level of success, you start having people who remove problems and obstacles in your life.
Well yeah...when you hit it big you're a cash cow for a lot of different people (agent, studio, family etc).
I'd argue it's more difficult to stay yourself in that situation then to become an unlikable dick
It's why having normal friends and family is important. We need people who'll kindly call us on our bullshit.

Note how Robert Downey Jr. went against the grain in regards to Mel Gibson. He knows he's had too many public failings to be anything but grateful for all chances he's gotten. He understands forgiveness.

@@evertonporter7887 I did. One thing I noted was that JK would trash the lying women as often as the lying men. Here in the US we have Maury Povich and others who _coddle_ the lying women instead.
It's probably to her advantage for her to say she's disillusioned with the character and hint that she wants to move on away from it. If the new movie tanks, she can say that she's just as happy to concentrate on other roles. If it's a big-enough success, she can say that the big success convinced her to do a third movie. But getting past that cynical possibility, I do think she's painted herself into a corner that she regrets. I feel kinda bad for her. Not exactly "sorry for her", but I hope that she has some future roles which are more successful than the ones she's had in the Marvel universe.
I'd say that Robert Downey Jr may have an air of arrogance, but it's an attitude of "I'm Great!" and not "You people suck". I think we'd all like to feel as confident in ourselves as RD seems to be, but we also don't want to turn into someone who despises large groups of people.

I honestly was surprised she even went back to the Captain Marvel role in the first place. She knew everyone hated her in the first film, and seemed to be happy enough to be out of Hollywood instead doing her own channel and podcast.
Because she like Megan Markle discovered that she's not actually likeable, interesting, or motivated enough to be a successful podcaster or youtuber.
Then she remembered she's a spoiled valley girl and used industry contacts to start doing movies and commercials again instead.

Marvel only offered Brie the role because she just won the Best Actress Oscar for "Room" and thought they could capitalize on that heat. They overlooked the fact that the face of a potential multi-billion dollar franchise has to actually be likeable to earn repeat business.

What I found most interesting was the part of the discussion about who Brie actually is. And the one thing that kept popping into my head is that - I don't think she even knows. She molds herself (or at least attempts to) into whatever persona she feels is going to make her the most popular, or likeable, or successful, or whatever. In other words, there is no *real* Brie. It's always been an affectation, a role, designed to achieve an end. But if you were to sit down and try to see what's really underneath, the reality is that there probably isn't much of anything. Just an empty shell of a human waiting to be filled with the next performance.
I remember when they did the interview with Brie and the other Marvel stars, and she came off extremely poorly in comparison to the rest of the cast. With the comparison of her being the next Tom Cruise, and responding with the, "I'm going to be the next me, thank you VERY much." Like, where does she get off even comparing herself or thinking she's better than Tom Cruise? He's the highest paid actor in Hollywood for more than a decade for a reason, he does all his own stunts and that brings a layer of extra tension when you know that's really him doing it, along with his ability to act.

I remember watching the first Ironman movie with my dad when it came out. After only 20 mins my dad turned to me and said: “Robert Downey Jr isn’t acting . This is legit his personality.” Even back then RDJ felt like he was being himself and not fake like Brie Larson.

Fully intended to wait on what all you guys had to say about Captain Marvel when it premiered prior to Endgame. Once you all said that the movie added virtually nothing significant to the Infinity saga, the over powered character, the “all men are bad” attitude, and her subsequent horrendous public statements, I made the decision to not waste money and time on it. Thanks for what you do… you guys ROCK!

I keep hearing about the toxic people bringing down the movie. I think that is just B.S. If the first movie brought in billions, it's because everyone went to see the movie. But if you push certain agenda then the fan will get disillusioned. They bought a ticket to a superhero movie not an agenda.
The thing is the first movie brought in billions because the fans cared about the captain marvel being a superhero and not her being a woman. They keep pushing that the fans are toxic, sexist and prejudiced. If that would have been the case then the first movie would also have flopped but it didn't. People did not see iron man because he is a man. They are fan of his abilities.

The loss of Chadwick, as sad as might be for many people, isn't at the same level in the franchise as RDJ, Chris Evans and Scarlett leaving the MCU. Not by a huge margin. Only added for racial points, wich is disgusting.
I kinda thought the same thing. Black Panther wasn't really a huge part of these movies. He was best in Civil War and his own movie wasn't even very good. He's certainly not the person I think of when I think of Marvel movies. The movie got nominated for Best Picture for very obvious reasons. It wasn't the even close to the best picture that year and it's nowhere near even the best Marvel movies. Winter Soldier craps all over that jungle movie.
It's really because the writing and stories have gotten weak. Since Endgame and the big guys leaving(RDJ and Chris) it just isn't the same.
The only reason Captain Marvel was a success is because it was marketed as a crucial plot for End Game, not because people like Queen Brie
Brie is actually a good actress who made an ill-advised grab for superstardom as Captain Marvel. Brie shone in films such as Room and The Glass Castle, and I'm sure she now wishes she'd stuck with that type of film (naturalistic) and stayed away from the comic book films. She's young yet and there's time for her to get back on track.

Baggage Claim is truly a fantastic addition to this team. Chris Gore is always great and so is The Drinker of course. They're all good. Quite a team they got on this channel, imo.
The only reason why the first Captain Marvel movie was a huge success was because it preceded End Game, although it's debatable that CM1 was a success because if I can remember correctly there were cinemas with "Ghost Seating", where there were a lot of booked seats that didn't have anyone seated in them. It's possible that many of these were pre-booked seats that ended up not showing up after the "toxic 40 year olds" video materialised but couldn't get a refund, but it could be possible that Disney faked the movie's box office numbers.
If 'Catpain Marvel' was REALLY as successful as Disney claimed it was, why didn't they used the Endgame cut where she was featured hugely instead of the Endgame cut where she barely appeared at all? If it was REALLY as successful as Disney claimed, why didn't they rush out her sequel as the 'face of the next phase' like they said they were going to do? NONE of that makes sense unless they KNEW she was wildly unpopular and they LIED about it...
@@HerculesBallsInc Well, it doesn't surprise me, Disney lied about the Snow White remake's photos with the non-dwarfs being fake, only for it to actually be true, and they lied about The Little Mermaid remake's budget, which was actually far more than what they originally reported, which means that movie was a huge box office flop. Honestly, it boggles my mind that TLM remake actually has loads of cringe fan, and yet it still flopped like the rotten fish it is.

No, it actually made a billion. It only did so because it was sandwiched between the biggest 2Marvel movies ever. Came out just before Endgame. People thought it had stuff to do with the main story....nope. So many people paid to see it, so it got shit on even more for being so bad.
That opening couple of weeks, they were definitely moving money from the left pocket to the right and calling it profit.

I remember when Captain Marvel came out, I dropped by a few theaters that first weekend, no lines, no crowds, it didn’t happen later either. If that made $1 billion, it was because the studio bought up a whole bunch of tickets.
Captain Marvel made a lot of undeserved money being sold as indispensable knowledge for understanding Endgame... which apparently it was until the reviews were so bad it allowed the Russo brothers to shed most of its dead weight.
I remember all the stories and pictures about large volumes of tickets in cinemas being brought and then no one turning up to see the film.

Brie was a mistake for both parties involved from the beginning. Brie was promised she would usher in a female oriented Avengers era, she was talked into it with that pitch. The fans didn’t want that era. So both sides were involved in something the studio was pushing “Mary Sue Female Bosses” era… she should have kept doing those indie female empowerment roles and the MCU should have kept doing what they did back in 2008-2018…
If it had only been her playing a character that was written in a very unflattering way, I could've understood.
You're paid to act the role, if the director and writers cast your character into a bad light, there's nothing to be done.
The problem here is that she enthusiastically participated in bashing the fans and throwing shade at anyone who didn't like how the character and some scenes in the first movie were written and cut.
You can't pee on someone's leg and then complain when they don't view you in a favourable light afterwards.
You never get a second chance at a first impression and for a lot of MCU fans their first impression of Brie Larson was her comment about "white men".
I’ve played midnight suns( surprisingly I really enjoyed it… though I understand it’s not everyone’s game) you have chances to interact with multitude of hero’s Carol being one of them. When I first saw her I was like crap she’s in this. To my dismay I actually like that version. She’s lively, charming, sure of herself which is fine if you have other charming qualities. Confidence is fine until arrogance. Combat wise she’s of course powerful so having her in combat is nice. Blade having a crush on her is actually funny and charming…. They needed most of that in her cinema appearances.
I don't know, I always feel that personality of Brie's was always there but her and her agent/management were smart to keep it in line as she hadn't cemented herself as a star yet. Once she got her Oscar for Room at 26, and then got the Marvel role. She knew she made it. So she didn't need to play the nice humble person anymore. The opposite to Rachel Zegler who hasn't cemented herself but has burned many bridges for herself with her recent behaviour. At least Brie was somewhat smart and kept that horrible man hating side of herself to she cemented the fame thing.
She's a good actress if given the right material. For me, she's not a top tier A List actress type. She's more a leading Indie actress, who might knock out a award worthy performance here and there. But she's not someone you want leading a franchise or a big blockbuster, just cause she's not a likeable performer and that goes a long way in Hollywood. Hugh Jackman is great cause he can do tons of interviews and chat shows and charm you into the cinema. Brie can't do that.
There are quite a few actresses who play the 'golly I'm so lucky' role as new people and then a year or two later the mask drops and they're complete egomaniacs. BREEE was neither the first nor the last, sadly.
The "Wrinkle in Time" comment bugs me because it's a pet peeve of mine that people do that sort of thing to divert criticism. You see it all the time in sports where athletes use the, "You never played, so you can't criticize me." defense.
The idea that someone from the outside can't observe and learn a subject and make an informed critique is absurd. You don't need to be a writer to recognize good or bad dialog. You don't need to be an actor to recognize a good performance from a bad one. Sure, there's nuance and things you may not aware of, but the product is the product.
It's really just a form of quelling dissent. Would you ever tell someone they can't criticize their leaders because they've never been President/Senator/Congressman? Those are hard jobs. I'd never want to do them. I'd be terrible at it. It doesn't mean I can't say when I think someone did a bad job.

One of the differences between Brie Larson and RDJ is that she made the concious decision to step into some controversial topics. RDJ made the concious decision to STAY OUT of controversial topics. And to be fair, wanting greater diversity in the FIlm Review industry should not be that controversial. It is unfortunate that the messenger became more important than the message.

Brie Larson is that woman who has made her career on pretty privilege and doesn't get why people don't like her when she berates them.
RDJ is a person who got his start from his father, and in his early years had some impulse control issues and got into real trouble over it. He's learned from those consequences. He gets to have that confidence because he knows he's got the charm and looks, but always remembers life, the law and addiction, smacking him accross the face. And he's got a family, so he has more than himself to think about.
Brie needs to learn those genuine lessons. She needs something outside of herself to be good for. Until she gains some kind of real purpose and humility she's going to be problematic.
Disney has the option in her contract with them for seven movies.

Thats true. It could be though that she has had seven movies. Captain Marvel and then 2 showings in Infinity War and End Game. Thats three. Add in this upcoming crap fest to get four. Throw in the three cameos elsewhere and thats her lot covered. Anyway I hope she does go and we never have to suffer her again. She can go back to making crap indie films that we can all ignore, and she can continue to spout bile about men and yak about herself as she drops back into obscurity.

I always felt that if they were going to cast someone from Community with "Brie" in her name as Captain Marvel, they should have gone with Alison Brie. Almost every other main Community actor is in the MCU lol.
The backlash wasn't because of the role it was because Larson went full man hater mode in her statements. She is the toxic ones, not the fans she lambasted because of their gender.
It's been eight years since I've set foot in a cinema. Every movie release has been worth waiting for DVD or streaming. nothing has excited me enough to buy a ticket. I'm a simple man, a common man it shouldn't take that much to get me excited, and yet the studios haven't been able to move me, and I don't think they ever will.

I really thought that Brie might have seen how well liked Katee is and tried to copy her RUclips show thinking it would work as well for her, or some agent or studio exec convinced her to do so? I only watched part of a couple of Brie's episodes but they seemed really forced and unnatural to me, where Katee comes across as someone that is naturally fun and sincere that you'd like to hang out with as friends. (at least I would! 🥰😊)

In my theater for Endgame, packed crowd, very involved crowd, laughing and cheering. When CM showed up to save Tony, not a sound came from the audience. Then when she showed up at the end to destroy the flagship, one guy sheepishly went “woo.”

I really think Brie is just BORED of the online hate in connection to the character, as in asking herself "Why am I still doing this?". Her little comment was almost 5 years ago. What was said then was said and done and there was nothing else to be discuss about it, and yet the same thing all the haters said back then repeat it over and over again, 5 years later. It's not that her feelings are hurt, not at all. She meant what she said. She said it in one plain sentence and never ever spoke of it again. To her, the online hate is like the radio playing Guns n Roses Sweet Child O Mine 10 times per day, 70 times per week, 280 times per month, 3,360 times per year and 33,600 per decade... she's sick of Sweet Child O Mine.
Brie was a failed experiment, she was the first one to go heavy on the whole me too man hate you can see that was put on both on her movie and her interviews. The backlash was unpredictable (by the execs, anyone with a sane brain could see that marvel was mostly a male fanbase) so it lead to her project of next face of the MCU being cut off, starting the whole derrail of the MCU
