This episode made me sad. Poor Bumi. His anger and sadness about being left behind by his best friend in the world breaks my heart, and honestly, it’s perfectly understandable. Bumi was just a child when everything went to hell, and because the war lasted for so long, he was broken psychologically and driven to the brink of insanity because of it. This show is much more upfront with confronting the psychological toll that 100 years of war and trauma has on people than the cartoon was (not that the cartoon didn’t confront this). Like Katara’s PTSD from her mom dying, Aang’s survivor’s guilt, Bumi’s bitterness, and Iroh’s sadness.
I loved that you were compassionate about the mechanic. It's easy to judge a mother's or a father's attitude, but we have to see the bigger picture: the most important thing for him was his son
As some earthbenders know how to tell if someone is lying, different emotions can trigger different physical responses. That's why the badgermole reacted differently to different emotions, but to be honest, I agreed with the crystal thing.
That’s mako’s portrait in the back too❤ I also want to add in the original series the beach episode there’s a brief flash back moment showing Lu ten playing and Iroh holding zuko ❤
I know that they didn't have Uncle iroh singing the Little soldier boy song but you can hear it softly playing in the background as he talks to his uncle. 🥹
My only real complaint about this episode was the final scene and only because is demonstrated that no one involved (writers, directors, actors, etc) really knew anything about paddling a canoe. If they did they would have put Zuko in the back, for steering and providing the bulk of the motive power to the canoe.
It would have been a bit awkward to have it align with the animation series where it was Aang and Katara that made it through the tunnel with that element. You would have to establish that element much earlier to set it up correctly for the tunnel scene, and that would have completely changed the show. Not to mention being really awkward with Aang and Katara. This change to it being Sokka and Katara was, in many ways, a necessity more so than a convenience. They would be better served saving this element and fleshing the relationship of Aang and Katara out for Season 2 and 3.
let us leave!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they kept it!!! This bumi on some levels makes more sense than the original. Shows the bitternes and jaded haeart of someone who has suffered. Not just him but also his people having to make the hard choices. Not only that but also your best friend has responsibilities and didnt come through he may have been able to stop it.
The Mechanist was at an air temple not in Omashu. A lot of people in one spot who werent here before but its cool they have to condense. The realization that the king is Bumi came early. Sucks we dont get the Jet vs Aang fightI really wanted to see that. SECRET TUNNEL!!!!!!!!!!!! Oma was the woman and Shu was the man in the animated series they switched it. MY CABBBAGES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Zuko's story about Lu Ten pulls at my heart every time. Dallas and Paul are really killing it with their chemistry.
I love what they did with the Zuko & Iroh story in this show
The Zuko/Iroh stuff is my favorite!

I'm 33 years old and I was wimping like little girl. And remembering Mako makes this even more emotional
I'm so glad they didn't cut the singing & dancing hippies from this series, they're just as important as the cabbage merchant.
Wasn't supposed to happen until book 2 though
@@markcruz359 yep, but they made it work
@@markcruz359swear?😐
Fun fact: 'Bumi' means 'earth' in Indonesian. No wonder the creator made him the earth king in earth kingdom
Zuko is definitely lucky for having a iroh but this episode showed that iroh is lucky for having zuko also. Brought him back and helped him feel again
Christian & Madison....I really adore You Both!! And hearing Madison start to sing , "Secret Tunnels" warmed my heart! 🤗💜💜
So glad they included that!

I hadn't thought of that, but I agree that it must have been the reasoning for the change with the badgermoles. At least, it makes sense.
I also think that it coincides with the store about Omashu!

They brought the voice actor for the cabbage merchant to play as himself basically. I love that little fun fact

Facts, would’ve felt weird and misplaced
