Should do an expansion type rebuild. Draft 40 players each year in the rule 5 draft for the first two years of a franchise then with the first two armature drafts it gives you right around 90 players.
I believe you can only draft players missing from your 40 man. So you can draft a full 40 man. But after that you’re just filling it up.
Those players have to stay on your MLB roster or they go back to their old team

I like watching your rebuilds as I like the way you analyze things. I like the trade for the Cubs pitchers in this one. I took am a Cubs fan and in my franchise, Killian is killing it as my 5th starter. Has a nasty curve in the game.
Interesting playoff format. This was a moneyball video. When the A’s made it to the playoffs, they had to play the Twins in the Division Series, same as 2002. Now if the A’s had won that series back in 2002, they would of played the Angels in the ALCS. Just like in this video. The Angels also beat the Yankees in the playoffs in 2002 just like in this video but in the WC. Damn.

Great video... I have a comment to say regarding the whole Moneyball thing, realistically the whole "Moneyball" thing with the Oakland A's is overrated. They had young prospects that had very nice or good careers like Tim Hudson, Miguel Tejada, Barry Zito, Mark Ellis, Roberto Hernandez, and Eric Chavez. I think the moneyball term should be for the Tampa Bay Rays. They have continuously surprised us all after trading away their star players for pieces that we all initially think is lopsided favoring the opposite team
Moneyball will always be used for Oakland because they were the ones to reinvent the way you look at baseball, now teams like the rays have used the same type of system and been very successful. But who says the teams like the rays would be the way they are now if it weren’t for the A’s being the pioneer of it all
Realistically every team is using moneyball now by implementing sabermetrics, they just have the capital to invest in superstar players that Oakland didn’t.

I am not a huge baseball fan but I do like playing this game. I find scouting for players especially when you only know 1% of the players is very hard to scout and build this type of team. Good video as I am trying to learn how to scout
This was very unrealistic you were supposed to start with a Cy Young caliber pitcher, choke in the playoffs, and overrate yourself as a GM for 2 decades. What is this world series stuff?

I took my Oakland rebuild from sub-500 to world series winners in 3 season, and back to sub-500 in 4. Simming franchise is funny sometimes. I tried a Miami rebuild and went like 20 years and barely broke 500 the whole time, same moneyball strategy heavy on drafting.

Moneyball wasn’t about just numbers. It was finding what wasn’t valued and building the team around that. Especially with the new rules… there’s an untapped speedster contact group that isn’t necessarily as high of value bc their “OPS” isn’t as high but singles turned into doubles from stolen bags and a higher average could lead to a different form of offense that isn’t tapped into financially just a thought

If you do it the right way and trade or sign guys that fit your philosophy and not what Oakland’s doing just throwing darts at a board and trading everyone and their brother
While I love the concept, something to keep in mind for this upcoming year is that there is one more person on the active roster from 2002. So you may have more flexibility on the money than you think.
What roster are you using?
I'm playing Texas Rangers using fantasy draft. The only big stars I have is Corey seager and Buxton and Muncy. I've added players like ward LA Stella and a few others with good platoon numbers or amazing speed guys like Mato. Working really good having more fun with it than the star team I built.

The Oakland A’s are like the Indians from Major League. The owner wants to move the team and has shed payroll to the point the team would be bad so that they can move to a prime location
It sucked seeing all my guys go but I understood why it was done.
What’s more important for simming only. Plate discipline or vision? I wanna say discipline cos vision is more for playing games for a bigger pci? And does clutch anything?
Idk if it does but I do feel players with higher clutch get more hits and have a higher average. Not positive though

I think why the Athletic’s form of moneyball doesn’t work anymore because every other team uses a similar approach now but with the ability to spend money while still using analytics
Exactly. When they were the only team with the information, it evened the playing field. But anything with an ounce of sabermetrics knowledge knows that a guy like Ohtani or Trout is worth the money.
Doing a moneyball rebuild and adding guys with low discipline is a choice

You're thinking 2001 when the Twins had a 24 million payroll, the Moneyball season was 2002 and the Twins had a 42 million payroll compared to the A's 40 million.

So i've always played Road to the Show and never really gotten into the Franchise part. Does the game automatically platoon players depending on who is starting pitcher of the other team? Was trying to figure out the benefit of having right and left handed specialist if the game doesn't automatically account for that. I'm going to try a franchise this weekend when i have some time. Would love to know how that stuff works on simming.
Franchise mode is so fun! Sadly I still think the best version was all the way back in MLB 07 but it’s still great.

@@LewisSmithJr and I think the soundtrack was amazing as well. Also idk if ur a madden player but madden 08 was probably the best in that franchise as well. It’s weird that both games went backwards after those ones

To be fair to the As owner the team barely makes any money and he doesn’t have a lot of capital in the first place , just watch one of their games on mlbtv more than half of the stadium is empty
