Pilots mandatorily retire at 65. Air traffic controllers retire at 56. Do they make excuses about their mental acuity and sharpness to stay working? No, they retire. I’m sick of seeing people make excuses for a man who is in charge of the highest office in our country when there are obvious signs of degradation…

    • @Sewblon
      @Sewblon 5 месяцев назад +78

The statistical correlation between age and job performance is smaller than the correlation between job performance and psychometric intelligence tests. So if you think that mandatory retirement is a good idea, then you should also think that minimum I.Q. score requirements to work are a good idea.

@@Sewblon This is a logical fallacy known as "affirming the consequent"
      The original statement:
“The statistical correlation between age and job performance is smaller than the correlation between job performance and psychometric intelligence tests.”
This part is a factual observation, but it doesn’t necessarily lead to the conclusion that follows.
      The conclusion:
“So if you think that mandatory retirement is a good idea, then you should also think that minimum I.Q. score requirements to work are a good idea.”
This conclusion is problematic because it assumes that if two things correlate differently with a third factor, they must be treated similarly in terms of policy decisions.
However, this overlooks other relevant factors, such as individual differences, fairness, and legal considerations.

In Soviet Union there was a political system where usually policital leader rulled until the moment of their own death. One of them was Leonid Brezhnev and Biden met him in late 1970s. The entire nation laught over Brezhnev's inability to speak clearly, but he had no other choice but to stay in power. That period of time in Russian was called "застой", in English it means "standstill, deadlock". After his death in 1982 and several short-term heirs in 1985 Gorbachev came into power. The Soviet economy was in stagnation and all his initiatives to develop it faster resulted in total collapse in December 1991.
History teachs us not to repeat others mistakes. Soviet political system was unable to creat a new generation leader in time, but when he appeared it was to late. With all respect to Mr. Biden he is not a proper leader for USA.

Being a president or a prime minister is a stressful job and actually speeds up the aging process(don’t believe me, compare the photos of world leaders at the start and at the end of their term) and Biden was already an old guy in the start of his term and you can see how fast he has aged even more in the past 4 years. My advice to Biden is now it’s time for him to step down of the politics game and live his old days peacefully and comfortably free from the worries of the world.

Considering how some Presidents like Obama and FDR looked gray haired and frail after their presidency’s being much younger. Biden was already old and being president made it worse. I’m still voting for him but he should step down. I can’t imagine what eight years would do, if he can make it that far.

What a stupid law that would be. Plenty of able-bodied 75 year olds, why are you ageist and who are you to decide that arbitrary number? Ideology matters far more.

I do agree 80 is fair as well. just want to point out how others don't agree with that age and want it as low as 65. IMO too much is being focused on this, these are the oldest candidates in history and most will be younger in the future. I just think this is a unique problem we are having

Not signs… muttering, falling, incoherence, the look, the walk - as anyone with a declining elderly parent can attest; he’s not all there. He is not capable of leadership. Never was, but especially now in his deteriorated condition.

its not about chronological years, its about mental acuity, cognition and the keenness of the mind and connection to one's soul. There are octogenarians who can think on their feet and move smoothly. It's again, not about chronology.

There’s also the theory that serving as president is such a stressful job that it does age you exponentially in just a few years.
Now there’s arguments to be made about how active he actually is while in office but the idea is, it’s a high level job that deals with balancing a lot of different information and communicating with… well literally everyone.
It’s not an ideal position to repeatedly vote people past their prime into.

I genuinely feel bad for Biden. He can simply retire and spend the rest of his life in peace. Ultimately, that's all everyone wants in their life. It just hurts that he is putting himself (or being put through) all this at such an age. I don't hate him. I just wish him the best. I feel so sad to see him today.
