Many singers today are trained to use techniques that constrict the vocal tract as a way to hit high notes with power, but the tone sounds shrill or too bright, or too piercing to the ears. In today's pop music, that type of bright, shrill sound is acceptable. Well, the discerning ears say otherwise. With Mori, the voice is velvety with rich overtones. It's all a product of good "open throat" technique. Her lower range has nice depth and bass overtones, her middle range has lots of power, with a forward ping, and her upper range maintains fullness and clarity. That's why her voice is mesmerising.

If I can put her skills in a nutshell, I would say that she has the rare combo of Whitney's mid-range mastery, and 'prime' Mariah's expansive vocal range & vocal fold closure skills, with easy access to a variety of tones & textures, including whistle tone. If she's not the best vocal talent of her class, then who?
