I recently took a trip to Vancouver and found myself using one of the largest Ferry operators in the world. So I figured why not give it a review!
BCFerries claim to move 60,000 people and 23,000 cars per day and I believe them. Check out "The Spirit of Vancouver Island" in this fun and different boat review.

I live on Vancouver Island and taking the ferry to the mainland is common for my family. BC ferries is partially run by the government and is a unionized service. It's always been consistent and safe. I believe there has only ever been one ferry to sink in all the company history (the ferry ran into an island during a night passage on a northern route). Cool video, it's rare to get an outside perspective on something that's common for us!

Sometime back in 2015 my ferry trip was delayed by 30 mins due to the bridge spotting a kayaker stranded in the open straight. They steered the ferry off course and were readying the zodiac for a rescue mission. Then it turned out the kayaker was nothing more than some driftwood with debris stuck on it. Still, pretty interesting seeing them readying the zodiac.

    Pet friendly.
The pet area used to be a small room or two on one of the car decks, it was not very pleasant. This year if you follow the paw prints, you get to a deck outside. That's a reasonable area for bringing your dog.
I recall they prohibited people staying on most of the car decks after a major accident on BC ferries many years ago. If the deck is closed in, you can't stay there.
Probably assists stopping sketchy people going down there and doing sketchy things too.
*Transport Canada enclosed vehicle deck safety regulation*
Passengers on enclosed lower vehicle decks will be required to leave their vehicles during the sailing.

Last time i rode the ferries up there was in 78 and 79. Enjoyed your video very much, thank you.
I took a ferry once, but my mom made me take it back. 😂 A little humor there.

What you could have done ahead of time so you doing a documentary about the boat and see if the captain would allow you to come up at a certain point in time and show the interior of the business part of the ship where you drive and even the engine room that's what I would have done

I got on the bridge once. I have these giant binoculars that I normally use on a tripod , but on one trip, I took them up to the bow to watch for the eagles. A crew member came up to me and asked if I wouldn't mind showing them to the captain! He took me up there and there was the captain playing with my binocs while they navigated through the tricky Active Pass! "So how much do these weigh? they are a little lighter than........a little to port , drop it half a knot , give that yacht a blast on the whistle!"
