I'm convinced most producers have no clue what they're doing with reverb. And it's not entirely their fault either, DAWs and reverb plugins do a TERRIBLE good job at visually representing the 3D space we've created from all the reverb busses summed together.

Great vid. Love the concept of front-back depth, probably the most fascinating aspect of mixing audio, and once you start mixing with that aspect prioritized it levels you up because all your compression and EQ moves become more intentional with front-back depth in mind

Also with the reverb on the cello its almost helping to control the dynamics in a way, allowing it space at the back to breathe rather than popping out the front all the time... I would still want to control one or two peaks with something really transparent like a Weiss limiter or even a CL1B so that it doesn't completely destroy the remaining dynamics

Interesting about the lobby vs stairwell... coz really if you placed mics up and down the stairwell you would capture that reverb tail.
So what this tells me is that sometimes lower reflection times are better if you only have one mic.
