I’ve learned a lot about vintage spinning reels by having 370 of them in my collection - a hobby that you helped my start over six years ago. I do have 1 Shakespeare Tiger reel than used to belong to my youngest daughter. Now she likes to use better reels from my collection (this could be bad!). In general I’m not fond of modern Shakespeare reels but we need reels in their price range for young anglers who want to try fishing but don’t do it everyday and don’t have a ton of Monet to spend on high-priced tackle. I enjoy repairing and restoring vintage spinning reels as almost all my reels are at least 40 years old. These vintage reels are often made with timeless designs and quality materials that, if properly cared for, will last forever. My oldest spinning reel is a Luxor made in France in the late 1940s and it operates perfectly being over 80 years old. I doubt there are very many reels manufactured today that will still be around 80 years from now. Dennis, it is great that you give your time and expertise to help young fishermen get a great start with a very enjoyable sport as well as teaching them how to care for their tackle! I’ve gotten that same joy on a small scale by teaching my grandchildren to fish and to work on spinning reels. They absolutely love fishing particularly in the surf. - Chris

Love your videos Dennis great job.I do have a question "How many people 11:02 have asked for old B series baitrunner parts." I do realise people love them and it's hard to get parts or a get a reasonable price on a second hand one.

A lot of folks are trying to find parts to give those Shimano bait feeders a 2nd Chance and they are very rare now. Supply and demand says the parts cost is high. Thanks for asking - Dennis

Every thing mechanical will eventually fail. Some better designed, will last twice as long. Some Expensive ones will fail before a cheaper one. But if you catch an impending failure because of miss adjustment, a bit of work will make it last longer. As a kid/teen ager went through several Mitchell 300, rebuilding several(was Lucky there was a store with all parts). But because I used them so much. They were state of the art back in the 1960's. Also used Penn 65/66/67 on my spearguns. And Maintained lasted 30 yrs of salt under water use. The first ball bearing reel I bought was a BG13 in the 80's. Still works and got a newer one.

better the kids learn on inexpensive reels, if they continue the hobby, they will treat the equipment they buy out of their pocket. It's a good thing doing this for them, some may have never been introduced to it otherwise

That's the whole idea - Introduce them to the sport and don't fret if they make mistakes

any mechanical product, make and model will end up having a prevalent problem show up. the same with electrical. It can be in the engineering, the parts or material, or a combination of all of the above. If you work on the product any length of time the problem will be the first thing you check, almost to the point of looking at it with blinders on , which can bee bad in some cases making the job more work

I have a nephew working as a mechanic at a Ford Dealership. He says the same. There are certain problems that seem to go along with certain models or variations on engines, etc. I'm sure you saw that with sewing machines too!
