What a life saver! I got given a vintage Daiwa A9000 and the handle was only going forward 3/4 turn and back the same amount.
Took it apart for a service and because of your in depth explanation I identified the crosswind block was not seated properly on the oscillation gear, I removed everything, gave it a clean up and seated the block and gear correctly and now it works well again!
    Thanks heaps from Australia 🇦🇺

Just finished doing the same to my brother in-laws reel. Outside was pitted from salt water. It is spinning very quiet, works great. You provide a great tutorial.

I remember the silver series era like it was yesterday. At that time I kinda looked down at the whole idea of a Asian made economy models. Funny you mentioned todays throw away reels because that’s exactly how I thought about them. Boy was I wrong about that. I really have an appreciation for what they were then and how they stand the test of time today. Thanks Dennis.

The same thing happened to me in the 60's when I was told that the Penn reels were the way to go and that Shanlespeare was a lesser product. Of course, if you have a Shakespeare 2062 or any of the SeaWonder series, you know that just isn't true - Thanks - Dennis

You know I’ll probably like this reel. I have a Daiwa PS 2000 but it is totally different from this reel. I worked on what I suspect is a Chinese reel today. I bought it out of curiosity as it didn’t cost very much. I was really surprised by the reel - a large Nighthawk 6500 OX-350 long cast surf reel. It had three ball bearings and was very smooth. It was an older reel with a inside-the-rotor anti-reverse but the main gear was nice and the bearings were in great shape. I actually had a good time working on it. Prior to that I was fuming because I found that one of my Mitchell 402 reels was full of sand. Someone, probably in my family, had dunked that reel fishing with it at the beach but never told me. It was a mess. I get steamed when one of my vintage reels has been abused. Anyway it’s okay now. I’m just glad I was going over the reels that were used this past summer. This is a nice Daiwa you worked on Dennis. Great video!

@@2ndChanceTackle I must admit I love Daiwa reels! I’m trying to get a Daiwa Punch 4000 right now. There is also an extremely nice Daiwa 8600 worm gear reel with 3 bearings for sale on EBay right now. I already have two or I’d go after this reel no matter the cost. I’m trying to get my Hawaiian friend to get it. I think the 8600 is one of the finest reels Daiwa has ever made! There was an 8700 reel made but it wasn’t sold in the USA.
