I used to fish the Daiwa 27 all the time for salmon. These reels are less prone to corrosion than similar Penn reels. Gave my last two to a guy who doesn't maintain reels at all. These will last him long enough to get bored not catching fish.
The aluminum frame on the Daiwa is a better alternative than the plated post reels. The Penn GTI graphite reels were good and it is a toss up as to Daiwa vs the GTI series. Both are very good reels
Hi Dennis, Came across a beautiful, unused Daiwa Sealine 600H last week. Will be interesting to compare the internals when its time for servicing ! Cooler Best Regards, Cons
Dennis, voice audio is weak, I have this reel, I couldn’t hear why all the drag washers weren’t used and does that increase the drag rating ? What’s the part # for those drag washers, is it the same for the 47sh ? Thanks.
They are different washers for the SH version. All of the washers were used, I mixed up two packs, so I thought I had more. The upgrade comes with 4 washers. One smaller one goes below the main gear and 3 go inside it - If you are looking for the upgrade kit for your reel, contact smoothdrag.com - Dennis
Hi Dennis, I notice a part often referred to as the anti-reverse clutch located in the gear-side, side plate is not in this reel...unless I missed it. I noticed Penn Warfares have such a clutch but Penn Rivals do not. What does this clutch do and what are the plusses and minuses of having such a clutch? Thank you
This reel and the rival use traditional A/R dogs. The clutch uses roller bearings to grab and hold the pinion gear shaft, where the older dogs use an interlocking click rather and arm to hold the reel from turning back. The older dogs are not "instant" anti reverse and subject to wear over time. The A/R clutches can get dirty and slip Both are effective ways to provide the anti-reverse function - Dennis. The best comparison is the Rival versus the Warfare. the Rival uses two of the traditional dogs and the Warfare uses the clutch
I'm not sure of the size. If you like, you can send the reels and I can order them at that time. If you want to order them, you can check with HPR Bearings on Ebay or Bocabearings.com to get the information or to order them ahead of time. Thanks for asking - Dennis
This is a really nice Daiwa Reel, if the owner liked it he will love it now !
I know he does! Thanks Bobby
Own 4 of this reels big brother.(47h) Built like a tank.
They are one of the most dependable level wind reels ever made - Thanks for the note - Dennis

Hi@@2ndChanceTackle, Thank you!
Thanks Dennis
What is the physical size difference between a 27H and 47H…?
The 47H has a wider frame, a bigger diameter spool and holds a lot more line than the 27H. A Penn comparison would be the Penn 9 versus the 209 reels
What size ball bearings does the 27H use? I have 4 of them and was looking to send you them to change out the drag washers and ball bearings.
