- Join us in a lesson on elephant walking!
Elephants' unique walking style captivates us for many reasons - the way their large feet carry them for kilometres daily, across harsh landscapes, from winter to summer, how they manage to move relatively quietly for such massive animals, how they in fact walk on their tip toes and not flat footed as it appears...
Watch our video in our elephant behaviour series, Have You Ever Wondered....? And see if you can learn a few insights into the march of the elephants.

So relaxing watching the adult elephants, and so heartwarming watching Kanyisa
This herd is so majestically beautiful. I'm just in awe of them, it would be thrilling to spend a few hours with them.
Hi love watching this sweet smart herd. Khanyisa and Aldine is so adorable and smart too.
Watching the herd walk in the dirt path, hypnotic. Each step looks like a giant plunger pressing into the ground. Large squishy feet. The rhythmic sound of each foot, as it scuffs the surface of the path. Just love the sound. Today, I learned to pay very close attention to how they walk. Fascinating. -Seattle Family 🇺🇸
Their walk is interesting. Thanks for pointing it out.
Such big and heavy body on their toes is always boggling my mind. I remember ballet lessons and that was painful... Too bad my toes were not as well padded as elephants. All participants were perfect but Buby was particularly kind to show us in slow-motion how she walks. Thank you HERD
I send my love to my African elephant friends God bless them and protect them everyday ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🌏
Amazing how they walk
Never noticed that before.🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘
😊
They walk their whole lives on tiptoe as if wearing high heeled shoes on all four feet! Just imagine Khanyisa wearing red sparkly high heels💕💕
Their walk is so smooth and graceful despite their enormous size! And so quiet...like a gentle rustling in the grass. Love to see the youngsters taking the lead! Thank you for another excellent educational clip!🙏♥️♥️♥️♥️
I wonder if elephants marvel in our walking abilities as much as we do in theirs .
It’s fascinating to watch them walk. Each step is so deliberate, so powerful, it’s as if they know they’re the ones to be feared, respected.
And then there's Khanyisa, who walks like the princess she is!
@@JingoTastic - I love when she crosses her legs. She’s such a doll. 🐘💕
I love watching young, Khanyisa with all the adult Elephants, just do their thing !!🐘💚🐘❤️🐘🤷🏻♀️🐘💜
My favorite animal. Love them. Never get tired of looking at them.
I love these videos where we can learn different things about these wonderful animals. Thank you
I love these elephant lessons. They are such fascinating creatures. The world is blessed to have them as you are for rescuing them. Have a wonderful day.
Thank you for watching, we so glad you you enjoyed it 😉🐘
Q
I love watching them walk through the bush. I've always found it odd that elephants walk so quietly for their size and now I know how they do. Thank you for the lesson and I look forward to more. 🙂❤️🐘
Yes they are so cool with their bell bottom feet! And oh yes they are also ballerinas on their toes! Thank you for the elephant lesson; so large yet so gentle on their feet.
Thankyou, Adine and all the fabulous carers... that was a beautiful clip of the Jabulani herd. with love from Sydney, AU.
Fantastic lesson! I've learned more about elephants in under seven minutes from this video than I have in hours of other videos. So good to see the beautiful Fishan walking strong!
I've always thought they walked like a well rehearsed ballet, because I could see the graceful moves. So careful, and when it came to the baby, just protective and would not move to step on her
Wow, the way the elephant's walk is quite fascinating. I always wondered if they develop pressure sores on the bottom of their feet due to the weight & distance they travel every day. These videos are a wonderful way to learn about the elephant's ❤🐘 Thank you 🙌🏼
I know how elephants walk... Gracefully! 😊
I have never picked this up on my own. And I could watch elephants ALL day & be my happiest. Fascinating! Thank you for real education for better knowledge in this casual format with a herd you’re devoted to and so are we. All benefit as we learn….elephants & people 🐘♥️🙏
Finally an explanation as to why elephants, who are so massively heavy, are so quiet when they walk. What an informative and interesting video! Thank you so much for this.
Another great video 👍 I had never considered how they actually walk, mostly just how they handle unusual terrain.
They are such incredible creatures that God made. I enjoyed the lesson. It's always interesting to see how they move and no one smaller gets hurt. Have a blessed day.
Thank you all for the information. It is amazing! Bless you all!
I love watching the elephants walk. They are so large yet so graceful.
More interesting 🤔 elephant info. Love watching the JABULANI herd everyday. ❤️❤️🐘
I did learn and never knew! Amazing. Khanyisa is too cute and is often hidden by the others. Thank you!💜💞💜💞
Thank you for showing and explaining to us how they walk. It was very informative and interesting!! I absolutely love your channel because you take the time to tell us who's who, what's going on in a certain situation and all about how these majestic magnificent animals live!! I am so hooked and so in love with Elephants!! I want to learn all about them!! Again, thank you for thinking about us and teaching us about how the Elephants live day to day. I don't know how or if it will ever happen but I want to see one in person so bad but won't go pay to go see them in a circus. We love you all!! 🐘❣️❤️🐘
They are beautiful and majestic! Thank you for the lesson.
Thank you so much for this great lesson! So calming to watch them...
Yes, I really found that very interesting I enjoy learning about all the elephants Each time I learn something I look for it in new videos
Love the sounds they make when walking. Khanyisa and Timi are so adorable leading the herd, walking like big girls. It looked like Jabu maybe got bummed out when Fish didn't respond to his challenge. He stopped walking and just stood there watching the back of Fish. Fish wasn't giving up that spot. Thanks for another great video.
I love learning about elephants
It is easier for me to observe little Khanyisa "running" or that is, trotting with her front legs and walking with her back legs. Fishan has my heart, too, for his perseverance in overcoming his injury and getting himself back as a senior member of the herd.
Fishan is the man. He is so gallant.
WOW! What another awesome lesson in how the elephants walk and I actually did learn more from this video too. Thank you Adine and Carers for you knowledge in elephants. I am also so very impressed with Fishon and what all he can do and is also determined to do too.🐘❤️😊👍🏻 I think it is also so cool how most of the time when they all are walking together how they usually always walk in a line behind each other. It reminds me of children in a kindergarten class where they all had to walk in a line.🥰😁🐘❤️ I am so pleased at how so wonderfully Fishon is doing and very determined he is to do the things that the others do and more too. He is truly my inspiration for sure and I wish him continued success and hope he never loses that determination.❤️🥰🐘 Sweet Khanysa is in a wonderful herd family because she has a lot of wonderful mentors to continue to learn from. Thanks again and hope that you, the Carers, and the elephant family has had a wonderful day. God bless you all and I send you hugs and love always! Sue M. (Florida, USA)❤️🥰😊🌴🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🌸🐘🌸👼🙏🏻❌⭕️❌⭕️
Sebakwe is just so magnificent. What a stunning bull.
Thank you for sharing how elephants walk! It is simply AMAZING that these beautiful, huge creatures can walk soooo quietly!!! I love these lessons! Thank you Adine and all of your wonderful staff for all you do!!!
God bless Khanyisa, Tokwe, Bubi and all the rest of The Beautiful Herd and all of the Human Carers as well!
🙏💜🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘💜🙏🌟
I honestly never noticed this. Fascinating 🐘🐘🤩
I love elephants being so majestic animals - they are, indeed, the kings of Africa and Asia... (and not the lions)...😊
I slowed the video speed down to .25 and you can really see how there legs move. Amazing !!! I love these tutorials. Thank you for sharing.... And... I must say.... I have always loved elephants' feet !!! Amazing....
I love elephants, like the way they act together and the way they make little to no sound when walking.
I also love how they look, I mean the huge ears, the trunk and then the head shape and tusks.
It just amazes me how quite these magnificent elephants are when they walk. They are beautiful and graceful. Thank you for another wonderful video. ❤️🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘❤️
They are truly Gentle giants🐘

Thank You Adine,
Enough is ‘never’ too much when it
comes to learning as much as possible,
about our precious giants - & ALL
our broken world’s essential,
amazing,creatures!..from under
the ground & beneath the seas up.
🫶🏻🙌🏻🤜🏻🤛🏾👏🏼🙏
oh i absolutely love these videos about elephants i could watch all day, thank you ♥♥beautiful elephants♥♥
How well can elephants see? My understanding is that creatures like elephants are critical to regrowth of plant life through stimulating growth as the plants are 'pruned' or 'trimmed' if you will. I loved the part of a video showing the dung beetles and the recycling so that no nutrients go to waste.
Wow Wow wow...I've watched 100s of Elephant videos and never really noticed this.
Thank you so much , I love your channel. ❤
Thank you so much! We so glad you enjoyed it😊🐘🐘🐘
I love the videos with the herd just walking. It's so peaceful and hypnotic. I will never be able to experience walking with them in real life, so really enjoy and treasure these online walks with them. ❤
Learn something new everyday. Love the bell bottoms 🥰🐘
Beautiful video and so much knowledge Adine gave us on how elephants walk. Thank you. 💕 🐘
Thank you all for the beautiful videos and for looking after the elephants, watching from UK, it's better than all the negative news 💗🌟👍
PURA HERMOSURA ...NATURALEZA HERMOSA 🐘 🐘 🐘 🐘 🐘 🐘 !!!!
That was fascinating!! Always a joy to spend time with my favorite HERD!! 💙💙🐘💋🐘💋🐘💙💙
Fascinating indeed. I love walkies, they always seem so calm & despite their size & weight, they're really quiet. Khanyisa & Timisa leading was so cute! I note Khanyisa hasn't quite mastered the walk, she isn't left left right right just yet. And seeing Sebakwe side on like that, he's HUGE!
Was that a yawn from Lundi at 1:53?? ❤🙏🐘
How amazing! I never paid close attention to this unique walking pattern!
This was so entertaining. Starving for more information about elephants.
I get to see this beautiful, thriving herd almost every day, which is an example of very good care, but it seems as if the herd has dwindled by a certain number of elephants? Regards.
They just don't show them all, in all the clips.
I love the commentary on the behavior of these elephants in particular and on elephants in general. It makes me love them even more! Thank you for taking care of them and showcasing just how amazing elephants are!
They are so majestic and sweet. Thank you for your work. GOD bless your team and all Elephant Herds 🥰
💞✨Every step is mesmerising and inspring, with thoughts of peace, relaxation and their rhythmic pace, almost gliding along the plains. So beautiful to observe. Thank you 🌾🐘🌿🐘
Hi khanyisa ❤️ hi all of you 🍀 🍀 🍀 thanks for the care and help you give to all these beautiful animals ❤️ I always admire the way they walk.
Thank you Candida. Thank you for watching😊🐘

Thank you for always teaching! You teach things that even zoos do not teach!
Thank you for another educational video on a very fascinating subject
This never gets old. Gentle beautiful giants.
I ❤️ them so much 🥹 Thank you kindly for taking great care of them and for educating us 🌹🌹🌹
It’s like they have front wheel drive and back wheel drive. Awesome animals
I loved this video. Meisiekind is growing fast, but she still looks tiny compared to the adult members of the herd.
🥰🐘🥰🐘🥰🐘🥰🐘 and love to u all too xx
Its like two people walking in single file when Elephants walk.
The hind legs are timed just a fraction of a second ahead of the front legs.
But the movement as a whole is very casual.
When they walk fast...
You just double time the casual stride.
I never actually took the time to study the movement.
Its kind of peculiar.
But if you weigh 10,000 lbs...
It works.
I bet sauropods walked just like this only a bit slower because of their larger size.
Thank you Adine.
Its about time we got a little more indepth about Elephants.
That fluid glide of Sebakwe’s!
Love these elephants. Plus a couple of these shots highlighted 2 of their ears with tears in them I hadn’t noticed before, Somopane and Bubi. Every little bit helps me in identifying them. Thank you so much!
I was watching one of your videos the other day and found myself in a mesmerize stare as they were walking to the damn.
Thank you for teaching me about so many things about the elephants. Love it.
They are so elegant and beautiful! Sending my love to these amazing and gentle beauties! Stay well and safe!
so much grace
humans could learn
something about
grace and humility
Love the information! Makes me appreciate the elephants 🐘 even more! 💘
I love the unity and formation ellies have. That sky is amazing. Also I find the pads of the feet pretty interesting. It's like a giant platform shoe humans wear. Has to carry all that weight. 💞
Tank you you wonderfull carriers.
That you show us all the woanders of these fabulous animals
Very interesting about elephant feet & how they walk……elephants are so massive and they walk with such Grace and have to walk very carefully ……a song that came out in the 1960s “Baby Elephant Walk” by Henry Mancini thank you for this educational video…..
I love these videos. What beautiful animals. God bless Adine and the carers. Thank you for all your efforts!
I learned so much from your videos thank you ♥️🐘
So glad to hear that Rose and your most welcome.🐘
How could anyone harm one of those beautiful creatures?
Truly fascinating!! Following Lundi with Bubi behind is our little Khanyisa Peanut in an Ellie sandwich 😁. Watching Magnificent Sebakwe walk along really showed the leg and feet placement.
Great ! I am learning a lot about elephants. Thank you so much.😍
Really interesting! I love learning about the heard and elephants in general!❤️🥰
Very fashionable in their bellbottoms
Thank you for this lesson. It was very interesting!
I'm amazed how such a huge animal can be so quiet when walking
Fascinating! Love these videos, clear explanations and visuals 🙏❤ I can never get over how quietly they move given their size. But what I found especially interesting is that they walk on tip toes! The thought of a cantering elephant did make me laugh ❤🐘❤
