Mitsubishi Lancer WRC from the mid 2000s. A lot of people weren't a fan of it but I think it was pretty interesting to see Rally cars begin to step up to touring car levels of aero & bodywork.
1999 F2 Kit Cars basically spelled the *end* of that category, giving way to the S2000 and S1600 cars, exactly because the faster class was complaining that this level of performance seemed "out of place" And I'm just here being: "Again with this argument? *Just make a better car* you idiots!"
@@michaellarkin6158 Not even I'm smart enough to answer that... but it's basically a debate I've been having with myself and that I debate with other people with... mixed results. Like, another example of me using this "Build a better car" argument was towards Porsche when they protested BMW's M3 GTR, which is a *Legendary* vehicle for a lot of people.
Those F2 Kit Cars were beasts on the asphalt rallies given some of them were pretty much hyper specialized to be fast on those rallies, which led to them being able to compete with the WRC cars.
Kit cars started as an idea of the head of Renault Sport at the time for the brands who didn't had a 4WD car in their range (in those days you needed to have an homologation special road car in order to homologate a rally car) to be competitive in national championships and it was a huge success. In some countries Gr. A and WRC were inegible to score points.
What's your favourite rally car of all time?
The Renault Maxi 5 Turbo was always a laugh. Would love to see some sims with it. haha

given the tight regulations in WRC at the time how do you propose that happened

More videos of these head-to-head races. 2:07 The second onboard with the Corolla was spectacular!
I was flabbergasted in DR2.0 when doing career mode in the 306 kit car because it was faster than 4WD Group B cars 😅

Now we have a champ, pit it against another competitor like an Aussie V8 Holden
Kit cars were no joke, that's for sure
Ah, yes...
Citroen Xsara. The only rally car in my garage (GT3) that I rarely used.
I wanna see a race between every kit car from when it started to when it ended
