At age 69 made my first motorvlog helmet. I used Sugru. It's Great. I wish I had started motorcycle riding in my early years, at least 30. Still I am healthy at 69. Last year I went from CA to Alabama. Took 4 days to get there and almost two weeks to get back. I don't do off road because I have a Harley 2018 FXFBS and I actually don't have the skills for dirt riding. I pack very light. 3 shirts, two pants, 1 extra pair shoes, 4 socks, underwear, rain outfit, my riding jacket is good for any season I can add and remove to it, two pair gloves one is for clod weather, lots of water and MRE's.
To add another comment: I stopped watching TV along time ago. I still enjoy a good DVD movie from time to time and like some of the TV series on DVD. Justified being one of my favorites. My point is, the videos you post are my primary source of both entertainment and resource. They are authentic and are not layered with fake BS. Thx again for your positive contributions, commitment and dedication.
Thank you so much Jericho Lewis! That means a lot to me that my videos are appreciated. Thanks for watching my videos, and for commenting. Safe travels!!
I BEEN RIDING SINCE I WAS 11 YRS OLD.NOW 55 ..WHEN NOT RIDING I AM ENJOYING VIDEOS LIKE YOURS...THE PEOPLE YOU MEET..THE WEATHER..THE SIGHTS..THE MEMORIES....LOVE FEELING THE TEMP CHANGES..THE SMELLS....SURROUNDED BY SIGHTS....DRIVING TOWARDS THE BLACKEST SKY YOU'VE EVER SEEN...LOL...HALF MILLION MILES AND LOTS OF STORIES!!...NICE TO SEE YOU FOLLOWING YOUR DREAM!!
Great info. That Body mount- Is like a magic arm camera mount- TIP: Lock off the arm with the weight of the camera -The natural weight of the camera as it moves "locks" it more.
As JerichoLewis7209 pointed out, I can partizipate a lot from your vids and experience! Your vids are solid, calm talking and your words are well chosen! That reaches my soul and so I appreciate very much your doing. There are sooo/too many maniacs on wheels and year over year the flood of (bad) vids are hard to look at, so your ones give a deep impact to my soul of riding. Thx, Tim, stay healthy and ride safe! Henry, 69, Oberursel (Germany)
I played around years ago making ATV videos, which is a good part of the reason why I so appreciate what you do. It's a lot of planning, and a lot of work editing, and it's definitely something a person has to have a real desire to do and a bit of a knack for. I know how time consuming mine were, and they were nowhere NEAR the level of the videos that you make. Cameras back then were nothing compared to today's either. I used an old IS-DV digital camcorder, not waterproof, not very good resolution, did have image stabilization thankfully, would've been completely worthless otherwise. I paid about the same price a year or so ago for my GoPro Hero Session as I did for my old DV camera about 15 years ago and the difference is unbelievable. Professional level cameras that cost 5 figures back then probably didn't do the quality that my lower end GoPro does now. Haven't played with mounting the new camera directly to the bike yet, just worn it on my head. My old Shovelhead vibrates a bit, could probably rent it to GoPro for testing their image stabilization, LOL. ;)
Thank you, I really appreciate that. Always nice to know the work I put in gets noticed. It is pretty awesome how far camera equipment has come. LMAO that is too funny! Would be a great way to test image stabilization, haha. Thanks!
Well this was just perfect man. Great intro, made me want to watch everything after. You showing the footage of each mount and a detailed explanation of how to set it up. And your tips: forget the cameras and enjoy the ride really does give the best experience AND the best video. Thanks!! Really want to try out that flag pole mount! PS: Another mount idea is to put your handlebar mount on one of the rear foot pegs and make sure your motorcycle is still a reference in the footage. Great for corners! Saw an epic wheelie video with that mount as well haha
this tutorial ''make better motorcyle travel videos'' is a big help to me in motovlog. now im using a local sport camera. GoPro, great quality of video in motovlog. i wish i have to! thanks for sharing this tutorial... new friend here
Some addition tipps: Buy cameras with wifi. So you can check and adjust the camera view with your smartphone. Practice, practice, practice. Do many test shots, to become experienced. Document the audio test recording, with a comment of the details. You need it, to remember the details.
I’m 72 and have ridden from Portland to Tuktoyaktuk to Ushuaia and much more. I made RUclips videos of all my travels, the first ones are pretty bad but I improved with each one. I was thinking about more camera views to make things more interesting so your vid was very helpful.
That perfect timming :) Again my lunch break time. Brilliant ideas to make different footages, thanks! The only downside having multiple simultaneous camera clips is the editing process... will you make a vlog with your editing process someday? I never saw your "office", and we know vlogging isn't just filming. Will you talk about it? Thanks for another great video Tim!
I don’t ride motorcycles anymore ( at least not now) but I ‘ve been a bicyclist since the late 60s. A lot of your videos I can use, like this one, I can use on the bicycle. Thinking about getting a small scooter to carry on the back of my van. Thanks.
Excellent tips and techniques insight. Really like adapting an item for something other than its designed purpose and making it work for your needs. Also, the quick release lever clamps on the selfie stick with the splines is great, better than the twist lock type for this use. Thanks for sharing. Take care.
I like the way you stressed safety. I also like the fact that you reminded people, that the adventure and the experience should be the goal not the video. We all need to remind ourselves to live in the moment.
I appreciate videos so don't take this wrong. For me I find all the messing with camera's takes away from my adventure experience. The other thing is that my videos and pictures for me never live up to the actual experience. I use to take a lot of pictures, and video of the adventures I did. I began to realize I really didn't spend that much time watching them. I would rather be planning my next trip or out in the wind, riding. Now I just ride, and totally immerse myself into the experience of the adventure. I have a lot of great memories. You do make great videos, and I enjoy watching them. I understand that it is a business, and a passion.
Hey Dennis! I totally get that, like I said in the video, make sure you are enjoying the trip. If the cameras started to take away from my experience I would stop too, and sometimes I do put the cameras away and just enjoy the ride. I enjoy finding creative ways with my videos to share with other people, and I do enjoy watching videos from old trips. Sometimes just a journal and my memories will suffice for reliving old adventures. Glad you are enjoying my videos! Thanks for your comment. Safe travels!
I am speechless . It's awesome video and I love it Tim . Thank you for sharing this tips and techniques Tim. Take care and stay safe . My regards from down under Australia Michel .
12:58 Being in the moment. That's a great point that was a surprise to me when they did a study on it. Ones who were so focused on the photography aspect forgot much of the trip compared to those who just soaked in the experience... this makes sense to me now. :)
I didn't know they did studies on that, that is really interesting. I have experience that, coming home to see footage on my camera that I didn't remember seeing, it is really a shame. Good to know, thanks for the comment!
Very informative video. I just started and unfortunately my budget is pretty tight right now. Just a bike, camera, free editing app and a $300 tablet. Working on getting a laptop and good editing software so i can get more cameras. Thanks.
Great video! Lots of solid advice, wisdom and advice. I make videos on my ATV and I will definitely use many of these techniques. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.
Great tips, thank you. These seem invaluable, especially the 15 sec clips. I picked up a cheap action camera to see if we like filming our trips before going to a greater expense. I think you may have reviewed it or one like it. Mid 50's and creating my first motovlog set up.
I got a cd called movie maker, it really helps when you edit your shots and movies. Its old so I was thinking about getting a newer one. I think getting the upgraded one also, it will allow you to do more editing. Tim, have you ever thought about doing some movies with a drone? I know that is just extra stuff you need to carry, it sure makes for a great view.
I had a drone for a while, but I never got the hang of it and it just seemed so fragile in my cases. With the new restrictions coming on air space I will likely not be using it much. It is a shame, they do get great shots, maybe I will reconsider, we shall see. Thanks for the comment!
Thank you for your detailed instructions. I’m getting ready to go on a seven day motorcycle ride. I also ride a GS. I appreciate the tips on taking multiple short videos rather than one long video. Can you provide a link to the flag pole mount and selfie stick at locks? Thanks so much!
They are unfortunately not available any more. I’m sure there’s something similar if you look for it tho. I’ll have to see if I can find something and share it here.
Hi. Thanks for the tips. Wondering how you start/stop your cameras? For example the helmet camera - do you trust that you can start/stop the GoPro (in a mount which makes the button a little more inaccessible) while riding or do you always stop and activate/deactivate your various units?
I dont bother with a remote, I just stop and turn them on, ride for a bit and then stop and shut then off. It is a quick process, I usually run the camera for about 10 minutes at a time.
Morning Tim... Very creative with the selfie stick. I will be interested in knowing how that holds up over the long haul. Something you may wish to consider. Reinforce the end of the stick where it slides into the flagpole bracket. Perhaps you can find a large threaded bolt with a head size small enough it will still slide into the flagpole bracket. Maybe a large allen screw? Even a piece of wood whittled down such that it will slip into the selfi stick. This may provide enough support, the set screw on the flag pole bracket will not crush the self stick? Anyhoot... Just any idea. Side note... Bought the Kelty 2 person tent yesterday. With my Amazon rewards, $64... Gearing up for spring!
Very informative! Thanks for all your hard work Tim! I'm not there yet, but I'll be coming back to these when I am ready (hopefully Santa helps in that dept) Have you ever seen a Channel called "Mototrek Adventures?" (Different from Brett's "Mototrek" channel). This guy's name is Carlos, and he has, imo, THE best motovlog for the TAT I've seen to date. He has a couple other vlog series ongoing, and a trip through France/Spain uploaded as well. I know he puts in A LOT of time, but he seems to be a natural at cinematography. Beautiful stuff.
Thanks Norsefalconer! Hope Santa does help with that!! Cameras can be expensive, but they make great gifts lol. I have not seen that channel but I am going to check it out as soon as I finish catching up on comments. Thanks for the comment as always!!
Great video. Is ti posible you can post the Link and/or the brand of the selfie stick, I'm in the process of mounting a Gopro 360 on my bike and love your idea.
Tim. Thank you so much. Some great tips and tricks. I really appreciate you sharing this with us. I struggle so much with this, I’m excited to start filming again. See you on the road. Let me know if you ever end up in Midwest as I would like to meet you in person.
Hi Tim, interesting setup. In a recent video, you mentioned that you use only one camera now. Do you use the Selfie stick and the other positions in 2022?
Just shot my first video with the GoPro 7 Black on a vest harness, walking on a hike, and I was kinda surprised that the image stabilization wasn’t close to my Insta360 X ? Guess it needs a gimbal for walking. Plan to use both on my GS for my next trip to Skyline... which was a really a 3x camera shoot since you can edit the Insta360 around time whatever you might be missing with the GoPro (unfortunately, my helmet has a (not so safe) flip up face plate so there is no where to attach the GoPro... and I can’t justify a new helmet at this point...
Hi i enjoyed your video. Been riding my gsa for a year now and i wanted to try taking videos of my trip but dont know where to start. Your video is very informative sir.
awesome info one thing that you didn't show is how you fasten the rear angle mount (pole). other than that all the rest was on point. thanks and keep up the good work.
Totally diggin this video (and your entire channel, TBH). In fact, I added this to my Facebook page," Brothers, Bikes, and Bourbon." I'll be looking to add multicamera shots to some of my vids. I recently got a Garmin Virb Ultra 30, I have an older GoPro, and somewhere I have a Drift HD. Probably look to doing a handlebar forward/reverse mount, that sick selfie stick mount, and perhaps a lower side mount. I'd love it if you did a video on audio (if you haven't already--I am a new subscriber ;) ). Thanks!
Hey Joe, thanks!! I appreciate that! I have done a video on sound, but I will be updating it soon as I have found a better way to go, that produces better audio. This is the one I already did on audio, like I said the other one will be out soon too though: ruclips.net/video/qCuc2vWoJ9g/видео.html
Thank you for posting this video. You’ve provided great information. I’ve been searching for a way to mount my GoPro camera to my bike to get a better view as well. Love the shot you were able to obtain. I don’t see the link in your bio for the selfie stick or flag pole clamp. Since you provided me the concept of the mount I’d really like to support you by using your affiliate links. If the links are no longer available to you please provide me with the mount & pole you used. I can still support you by buying you a tank of gas ☺️☺️☺️
Tim, terrific work. I am always interested in your backgrounds, and I wish you would mention the area or state the film was done at. Thanks a heap and have a happy turkey day!
Love your videos! A few questions.....how do you sink up multiple camera with audio? And then, When using multiple cameras how do you keep from recoding everything on all of them? Do you stop and turn them all on for a while and then off again?
Hi man, very informative video ! I am struggling to get more views at my travel videos and your tips are just great! Still need to find a balance to stay focused more on the trip that on the multitude of cameras 😁😁😁 Greetings!
Great video, the selfie stick that you suggested is out of stock, can you please send me a link to another one that you would suggest for your setup? Thanks and great job on your videos and tips, it helps a lot
That GOPRO 7 is an awesome piece of equipment. Your DIY creativity is top shelf. I’m sure you are considering taking to the air. There are a ton of new restrictive laws coming down the pike you can bet on that one. So; if aerial footage is in your dreams; you better get it now and hopefully you are grandfathered in and excluded from what other restrictions and licensing, training protocol is mandated for new users. A fella I talked to just recently told me of a host of new Federal restrictions which don’t even account for local and state ordinances. Animal right activists are already chiming in regarding people with drones harassing game animals and spotting game with them. It’s coming just like operating a motorcycle. There use to be no specific licensing or training requirements now adults can’t fart unless they have a seal of approval and a certification. I was 14 and took a Honda 65 all the way across the state of Florida. I didn’t need a state official telling me I’m capable or not; nature took care of that . BOOM; I MADE IT💪🏼🤜🤚👍....😉
The FAA wants total control of the airspace so they can "sell" it, like the FCC "sells" frequency bands. Neither of which the Government has the right to "own."
Yeah, the drone thing just doesn't seem worth it to me anymore. It was intriguing at first but it seems like it is on it's way out and will not be an option for much longer. It is a shame.
Great video you made, but I have a question. You use several cameras at the same time and you talk all the time while switching between the different cameras that you have mounted on the bike. How do you do it? I have Gopro today and it is mounted on the helmet, but my biggest problem is that it films too much and I run out of battery. Can you tell us a bit about how you made this movie that we just saw?
Good stuff always enjoy your bids. Waiting on the editing video.. What program do you use? What would you recommend for new users? Computer you use? How much do you shoot to edit for a bid? Just questions that I hope you can help with. Keep up the great work and have a great day.
I have been getting a lot of requests for that so I will be putting that out soon. Thanks for the great questions I will be sure to include those in the video I do about the editing process. Thanks!
I installed a drone split camera in my helmet. I put the board on the inside of the chin with the wire to the 2cm² camera through the vent. I don't like the look or drag factor of a brick sized camera on my helmet.
I really try not to do long riding videos too. I've watched a lot of videos of rides through Mexico, which I'd LOVE to do.. or rides on the Tail of The Dragon, which is a great ride. But even if you're watching a video of yourself, sitting through every mile or even every curve gets monotonous. It's not the same as riding it. "Ooohh.. watch this part. I passed another tree!". So if it gets old for you, imagine what it does for someone who wasn't there. Now.. sometimes I stretch that rule. I did that montage of road time on the trip to Cleveland but I was specifically telling two stories.. first, passing into each state along the way.. and second, the changing of the roads and surroundings. But.. that's just how I approach it. It's all my opinion. Motovlogging is a little different because that next mile isn't the focus. It's almost always the accompanying conversation. The road almost becomes secondary. The flag holder idea is genius. And I like that back of the bike view. Something to think about.. you may want to find your focus and then shut off your auto-focus when you're doing those talking shots.
Thanks Chris! LOL "Ooh watch this part, another tree." That is so true haha! Telling a story with the video is an important aspect. Yeah, I am not sure how that setting got changed on my camera, it didn't used to do that and I unfortunately didn't realize until after I had recorded like 5 videos :-/ thanks for pointing that out though, I actually forgot to change it so I am going to do that now before I forget again. Thanks Chris!
You have a great channel. Thanks for your work and the sharing of all sorts of info. How do you manage battery usage of the various cameras? Just let them run and then pick out good segments? Turn in and off with a remote? Etc. Take care.....
Thanks! I let them run for a few minutes and then pull over to change the angles, or turn them off and wait for the scenery to change. It is a pain but it helps with battery life and SD card storage. Great question!
Damn you Tim! Ha ha. You are inspiring me so much. Not sure if I can get close to what you do but I’m thinking about it. Like the comment below I hardly watch telly anymore. Planning my trip for August 2020. Round Oz. Here I come! Stay safe and Thankyou.
Fyi, your link to the selfie stick doesnt work. Bought the exact one anyway. Thanks for the tip. Newbie here to this stuff. So this helped a bunch. Great vids, have been watching a ton of them and even your non-bike vids. I'm in the PNW, and not many Motovloggers around this area. One, but its like watching Mr. Rogers doing a motovlog. Lol. Keep em coming. Just watched your IDBDR vids. Our WABDR is pretty sweet too. But Idahos is a bit better.
Hey Tim, another great video. I would appreciate if you would say where you are. I live in Phoenix as well and might want to travel this road......thanks
I am going to start including that in more videos, I always forget to mention that. It was Pioneer Pass outside of Globe. Just a heads up it gets a little rough south of the camping area. Great road up to that point though. I think it is part of the AZBDR. Thanks!
Thank you! I use Adobe Premiere Pro. I have been getting a lot of requests for a video about my editing process so I will be putting that together soon. Great question, thanks again!
Thanks Rick! I don't have any experience with the 360 cameras, they are intriguing though. I know DDFM is using one, he might have more insight on that,. If you head over to his channel let him know I sent you please :) Good luck! And yes, the stabilization is next level, really amazing.
Great video, one question though- how do you manage to press and sequence the record button on the cameras considering the fact you dont want to leave it on the whole time..

Thank you for your video, and thank you for insisting on safety and focusing on the road. That's something we don't hear enough.
Three years later and it's still relevant info. I'll definitely use some of your tips when riding season comes around.

I would like to see that too!

You are doing a Beautiful ride...
my first camera was like a GoPro and I made a nylon plastic mount that clipped onto my vent. it worked great.
I appreciate videos so don't take this wrong. For me I find all the messing with camera's takes away from my adventure experience. Excellent advice near the end of this informative video! Another great video.
Thanks SleepThatBurns! Glad you enjoyed this one.
Great tips. Can you share the camera settings, specifically the video clip settings.
I am speechless . It's awesome video and I love it Tim . Thank you for sharing this tips and techniques Tim. Take care and stay safe . My regards from down under Australia Michel .
Thank you Michel! Take care as well my friend!
Don't leave out checking drum kit hardware. The cymbal hardware works great too.
That flagpole mount at the back seems quite interesting. I am seriously considering that option for my coming 360 camera.
Absolutely spot on. Some great suggestions that we will seriously consider when out riding and filming next season. Thanks again.
There's some great info in this vid...we''ll probably use some of it too

Thanks Karl! Great tip, I will play around with that.
Congrats on the new tent, I love the TN2, very happy with it, hope you will be too!
Very informative! Thanks for all your hard work Tim! I'm not there yet, but I'll be coming back to these when I am ready (hopefully Santa helps in that dept)
Have you ever seen a Channel called "Mototrek Adventures?" (Different from Brett's "Mototrek" channel).
Is ti posible you can post the Link and/or the brand of the selfie stick, I'm in the process of mounting a Gopro 360 on my bike and love your idea.
flag pole mount ... awesome! Thanks for sharing your trick!
Of course! Glad you liked that trick! Safe travels.
Dude your content is just so awesome. I've been plowing through your stuff and it's all so well made.
Hi I have been following your videos for years now.I was looking for items you mentioned in description but I couldn’t find them
I'm just starting my adventure with GoPro on my bike. Thank you for very informative video. Ride safe!
Tim. Thank you so much. Some great tips and tricks. I really appreciate you sharing this with us. I struggle so much with this, I’m excited to start filming again. See you on the road. Let me know if you ever end up in Midwest as I would like to meet you in person.
Thanks Tim. Exactly what I was looking for.
Awesome! Glad this one will help you out!
Great video but no links as promised to any of the mounts or camera's??
Great tips Tim! I plan on trying some of them next summer at the Hells Canyon Motorcycle Rally.
Thanks Bob! Glad you will be able to put these tips to good use, safe travels!!
a great and very interesting video
Another great vid from u Tim...Focus on riding & enjoy the moment.
Thank you K Mathibe! Safe travels!
Great tips - will head to the boat shop. Good safety tip about NOT focusing on camera. I a guilty of that …!
Hi Tim, interesting setup. In a recent video, you mentioned that you use only one camera now. Do you use the Selfie stick and the other positions in 2022?
Oh man! I wear the same helmet and possibly the same jacket. Great video. I'm resesrching starting my own motovlog.
Nice video, great work
Great video! Lots of great advice and recommendations I will be able to put to use. Currently looking at cameras you have recommended.
Thanks Mike Beck! Glad you enjoyed this video and got some good tips to use.
No dislikes till now...Good work buddy keep it up
Hi i enjoyed your video.
Been riding my gsa for a year now and i wanted to try taking videos of my trip but dont know where to start. Your video is very informative sir.
Thank you!!
Wow this video is really lit..!!
Another great video, great editing too.....All the best.
Thanks ScooterNoMore, all the best to you as well.
very informative thank you for sharing your findings
awesome info one thing that you didn't show is how you fasten the rear angle mount (pole). other than that all the rest was on point. thanks and keep up the good work.
@@FTAAdventures Super! Thanks
Another great real world video. Thanks Tim! 👍
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Great vid...thanks...always nice to pick up new tips x
Thanks!
Thanks John, I am going to start including that in my videos. This was in Arizona, near Globe. It is called Pioneer Pass. Happy Turkey Day to you too!
Love your videos! A few questions.....how do you sink up multiple camera with audio? And then, When using multiple cameras how do you keep from recoding everything on all of them? Do you stop and turn them all on for a while and then off again?
Awesome video Tim!
Thanks Billy!
Hi man, very informative video ! I am struggling to get more views at my travel videos and your tips are just great! Still need to find a balance to stay focused more on the trip that on the multitude of cameras 😁😁😁 Greetings!
Thanks! Glad you got something out of this one. Good luck. That balance is important! Ride safe
Great tips and video setup, thanks!
Thanks Joaquin, glad you enjoyed this one!
Great vid! Instead of cutting your selfie stick, you could have simply bought a ram mount and a camera adapter and screwed in the selfie stick
Great video, but the question is how do you manage all vids from different cams and keep editing time decent. 👍
Great question, I will be doing a video soon about the editing process, I have been getting quite a few requests for that.
Nice video !
Fantastic tips Tim, thank you for sharing! Would you use the GoPro hero 4 black? I only have 2, the 7 black and the 4 which is not ideal.
IDK, I kinda miss the old logo. The very last shot got me adventure riding.
Excellent video and tips overall
Thank you Jamil!
Excellent advise mate 👌
Hey Tim, those weren't all Go Pro cameras. Can you give me some info on the other cameras you use?
Great angles, great video
Thanks mike miles!
Great video... thanks for sharing!
Thanks KMS!
Nice vlog sir owesome video ride safe
great video you gave me solutions my friend
Glad this was helpful!
excellent tips!
Thanks!
Where are the links to the camera setup you mentioned in the video you will provide in the description :-)
What are the cylinder-shaped cameras?
They are no longer available, they were from Sony.
Can you tell me the name brand of the selfie stick? The link isn't working.
Tim, didn't you temporarily move away from the M50 to, I want to say a Nikon, but hated the focus and moved back to the . . . which camera was that?
Hi Tim love the videos, keep em comin. Could you tell me what editing software you use, thanks
Thank you! I use Adobe Premiere Pro. I have been getting a lot of requests for a video about my editing process so I will be putting that together soon. Great question, thanks again!
I would appreciate your thoughts on the 360"s like a RYLO or others. And WOW the stabilization is remarkable on you Hero!!
Thanks Rick! I don't have any experience with the 360 cameras, they are intriguing though. I know DDFM is using one, he might have more insight on that,. If you head over to his channel let him know I sent you please :) Good luck! And yes, the stabilization is next level, really amazing.
Thanks for the great vid, the link on the selfie stick seems outdated, do you happen to remember the brand name, other links still good, thanks
Great video, one question though- how do you manage to press and sequence the record button on the cameras considering the fact you dont want to leave it on the whole time..
I pull over and do it manually, it is kind of a pain but I only use this method once in a while.
