  • Hello Beautiful People! Happy New Year!
    Today's video is all about how I personally make my candles. Everyone has different methods and formulas, but this is what works for me. Hopefully there are some tips within this video that may help you on your candle making journey!
    Quick Tip: Please keep an open mind when choosing suppliers. I have to switch things up because one supplier may be sold out of the ingredient or supply that I need. So, do your research. I have done my research and chosen the suppliers that work best for my brand and business needs. I check for quality and efficacy to ensure I am using the BEST ingredients and materials to create my candles.

    Great video. Getting better about being on camera. I use the same wax our process is a bit different, that's normal. I use between 10-12% fragrance load. Thanks to a wonderful wax we get awesome scent throw. I admire you for choosing to go luxury out the gate. I have a standard line and a luxury line as well as a beeswax line. Yeah, never pour fragrance into anything but glass. You don't want chemicals eating off the cup into your candle and you don't need to lose your expensive fragrance oil going to the garbage because the cup failed. If your pouring your fragrance into the cup and straight to the bottom pitcher you'd be ok. I just personally don't like the idea of chemicals from the plastic going in my candle! Call me paranoid! Love your shirt by the way!

    First off let me say you go girl!! I love to see a successful black woman! I have one question at what temperature do you pour the wax in your vessel? In the video it looked like the wax started to solidify soon after you poured the wax.

    • @ParisNikkole
      @ParisNikkole  3 года назад +4

      Black Girl Magic! 🙂 Thanks so much!
      I actually pour at about 145-150 degrees. I tried that Alex method in the beginning and that did not work for me! The process goes as follows: 1) Melt wax to no higher than 150 degrees F. 2) Once melted, add FO & Dye if you are using it. 3) Let cool to 100 degrees F and pour into room temp containers. I heard this method was tried and true but pouring at 145 has worked for me. It really takes testing and practice because some fragrance oils mix best at lower temps which then means you will then pour at a lower temp. It helps me to keep my pouring pitchers warm, to ensure it doesn't cool the wax too quickly.

    What do you advise a person who just just trying it out like sampling to see how to make candle number of candles and fragrances to buy to try?

    • @ParisNikkole
      @ParisNikkole  3 года назад +1

      I would suggest you start with a candle making kit. There are several companies who offer kits (candle science). Also, I went overboard when choosing scents and started with 30! I purchased an ounce of each just to see if it were something I would like to add to my collection . I ended up liking them all so I made 5 candles for each scent. This allowed me to see what the customers were purchasing so that I would be able to narrow it down and offer a smaller selection. Shopify offers great analytics to help you once you are ready to start selling! Best of luck to you girl! 😊

      200 degrees to melt my wax, sometimes my melting pot goes higher but it doesn't affect my candles in a negative way.
      I mix my fragrance oils in at around 160 degrees and I pour around 145 degrees.

    How do I make the math if I’m doing 12 oz vessel total
    Of 12

    • @ParisNikkole
      @ParisNikkole  Год назад

      You would just multiply ounces by number of vessels for the amount of wax you will need. I use grams so for instance, if I am making 3 candles that require 360 grams of wax per container that would be 3 vessels x 360 grams wax = 1,080 grams of wax in total. You would do the same for fragrance. Since I use 10% fragrance load I would multiply 3 (vessels) by 36 grams (fragrance oil). Check out my candle testing workbook, it has all of the formulas and testing sheets you need to get your calculations right. a.co/d/8UTPycI

      Hey there! It took several months of testing to really figure it out. However, I am still learning and growing as I go. It seems difficult in the beginning, especially when you are testing and things just don't seem to be working out. But once you get it, you will be so proud you stuck with it!! You got this. Don't be hard on yourself and remember "Rome wasn't built in a day" 🤗 Take your time.

    • @ParisNikkole
      @ParisNikkole  Год назад +1

      Hey Yvonne! Welcome to candle making. I would suggest coco apricot or coco soy. I have tried soy wax and did not like the weak scent throw that it provided. I will say my fave is coco apricot though. I wouldn't go all in on one wax until you are done with testing. It may be a bit more costly to purchase 5 pounds over 45 pounds but what if the wax doesn't work for you? You will then be stuck with wax you cannot use. So buy small and test, test, test in the beginning to make sure you are happy with the final result. Hope this helps! Good luck on your journey love! ❤️ I am here to answer anymore questions you may have.

    Can you use essential oil in coconut and/or apricot wax?

    • @ParisNikkole
      @ParisNikkole  3 года назад

      Hi Jasmine! Most scented candles contain a combination of natural and/or synthetic fragrances that may be derived from essential oils or from synthetic aroma chemicals. A well-made candle will contain only fragrance materials approved for candle use. So make sure you are purchasing oils that have been approved for candle use because if not, essential oils can be highly flammable.

      I generally add my fragrance at approximately 160-165 degrees and I pour around 150 degrees. The wax cools down significantly fast after pouring from the soy lite wax melting pot so you really have to watch the temp. I have had my wax solidify as I was pouring it, causing it to stick to the pouring pitcher rather than pouring into my jar. Good Luck!

    thank u for explaining in detail. appreciate it 😊 have a question, how much wax did you place in the melting pot before heating it to fill a one 12 oz jar please. Also, in order to sell do you have to wait 2 weeks for it to cure before you ship it out to the customer, or can you ship after curing it for 24 hours and then ship to customer after? please let me know. appreciate your advice 😊

    • @ParisNikkole
      @ParisNikkole  Год назад +1

      You are so welcome! So, I generally just fill my wax pot up to the max level and once I use all of it I refill. I have a new wax melting pot now which is larger than what is shown in this video. As far as curing is concerned, if you cure the candle for 24hrs and send it out, it generally takes 2-5 business days to arrive to the customer which is plenty of time. I have found in testing that even after 24hrs the candle performs as it should and the scent throw is strong!

The reason why I am asking is because the wooden wick Company told me that the 12oz vessels holds 11oz of wax.. that I suppose to to keep at least an 1 inch empty, from the wax to the top of the vessel.. I don't know if I am explaining myself well.. but 1/2 to 1 inch above the wax and the vessel.
