TP Link Smart Plug Mini: amzn.to/2rNHYom
Echo Dot: amzn.to/2s5JrsW
In my previous video I unboxed the HS 105 Kit; Tp-Link Smart Plug Mini 2 pack and used the Kasa app to setup my plugs to work via wifi on my Android phone. These devices are great, and convert "dumb" wall outlets into wifi enabled outlets.
In this video, I'm going to set up my wifi smart plugs to work with Alexa on my Echo Dot and allow me to control them with voice commands.
This only takes a couple of minutes, and then you can be controlling your smart home devices with just voice commands.

Excellent job of explaining and demonstrating how the Smart Plug is set up. Great Job!
Very informative
thanks! can you do a video for using a Fire tablet when installing the smart plug, echo dot 3, and Alexa? I do not have a cell phone and do not want one. I would really appreciate that!!
thanks. but you have version for iphone?
Thanks for watching! I actually am a 100% Android house haha. No iPhones here
Very limited range - when plugs nearby no problem but when located upstairs in bedrooms in my Villa here on the Algarve in Portugal - does not see and link and says wi-fi out of range !!
That's unfortunate. Other devices work up there and connect to wifi no problem?
Can you turn on/off on the alexa app?
Help, we had a storm and lost our lights and now Alexa does not recognize voice commands. She sees the lights but does not take the command (Skill is unresponsive)
Not working for Me Alexa cannot find bedroom switch. But finds one smart device.
removed then added again seems to work now.
That's a bummer! I feel like there are probably still some kinks to work out in this technology... Glad you were able to figure it out in your comment below!
When you say you removed and added again: did you remove the app? The skill? The device from inside the app? It might be helpful for someone else reading!
DO NOT BUY UNLESS YOUR ROUTER IS DUAL BAND!!! What an absolute scam by
TP-Link. Absolutely NO mention on the packaging that this device will
not work on the increasingly common 5ghz wi-fi routers. Just bought an
expensive paper weight! Have to sell it on ebay. Rip off!!! What a
pain.
That's a really good heads up, Joe. You'll need to have 2.4ghz for the TP-Link smart plug connection. I'm sure you could return them for a refund. I know- still a pain in the butt. Anyone who needs verification here is a link to TP-Link's FAQ Page: www.tp-link.com/us/faq-946.html. Thanks for the heads up, Joe
There is some reason behind it, as 2.4GHz networks do have a longer range that 5GHz networks, plus if a smartplug was to be both 2.4 and 5.0 ghz compatible the product would most likely be more expensive. Do your research on the product before purchasing, especially with smart home products.
Great info, Ludd. Thanks for sharing.
